OK, so I'm a bit biased, as I tend to automatically love anything green. However, Bournville Garden…read moreCentre is a particularly good haven for all things bright and beautiful that you may fancy in your garden. Personally, I would like almost everything that they stock in my garden. But this is sadly unfeasible. As well as the beautiful plant displays outside, they also have a lovely shop inside, with lots of lovely Emma Bridgewater-style gardening ornamentation as well as things for the boys like barbecues and fire pits. They also do a great Christmas tree service: they will cut and plant to your requirements as well as carrying the darn thing out to your car. The shop always looks amazing at Christmas as well, with lots of lovely hand-crafted decorations. They have their own store card as well, which is great if you're a regular. Which I am. Even if I just spend most of my time strolling around looking at plants rather than actually buying anything. Perhaps I need to get out more....

There is a large outdoor section with a huge selection of plants and shrubs and the interior boasts a whole host of goods, from the decorative to the useful. The have a 'Gardening Club' reward scheme that is free to join and actually works out as a genuine reward scheme - many is the time I've got to the counter to pay and fished out my card to receive a discount. They also post you a leaflet every month or so with a list of offers and some vouchers.

It's tucked away halfway up the Umberslade Road, and chances are you may even have passed it without knowing what it is as most of the activity takes place on the large piece of land that sits behind the houses that this place is sandwiched between. The front entrance is a fairly anonymous set of green municipal iron gates and only a small sign tells you that this is, in fact, a garden centre. The place is run by a charity that helps young people with a variety of issues and provides them with horticultural training. As such, all of the plants that that are for sale in the centre have been grown in the nursery out the back. There are a decent selection of plants for sales, ranging from potted, decorative varieties to shrubs, bushes and trees. We bought a cherry tree there last year and for a very reasonable £10 and it's still going strong in our garden. There is a small office/shop that stocks a small selection of branded products, like seeds and fertilisers, and these are also fairly reasonably priced. I often pop down there for bits of cane, or bags of compost, as well as to browse for plants to go into the areas of my garden that I am slowly starting to reclaim from the ivy and the weeds. The guys that run the place are knowledgeable and friendly and I always enjoy having a chat with them over green-fingered matters. It also feels good to be giving your money to and supporting a worthy cause. Highly recommended

It always seems quite busy here and I think that it is quite popular with the locals. They have some lovely plants for sale and they are all grown here too, which is nice to know as some garden centres buy in their plants. The prices are fairly reasonable too and all of the plants have been in good condition when I have been in. Inside the shop they have a variety of plant care products and seeds, which are always useful if you grow your own plants. The people that run the place are really friendly and definitely know their stuff when it comes to plants. They are always willing to offer help and advice. It is a great little place and definitely worth a visit.

I love wandering through the forecourt and shop, admiring the great selection of cut flowers in a whole miriad of colours. You'll be spoilt for choice with the range of flowers from the unusual & exotic to traditional country flowers, but don't worry there are always plenty of staff on hand to advise you - they're so helpful and have been very patient while I keep changing my mind as to what I'm looking for! I've bought flowers for all sorts of occasions - including Christmas, birthdays and colleagues' leaving presents - and they're always gorgeous and very reasonably priced for the high quality you get. They also have a selection of readymade bouquets and stock all sorts of extras like potted plants, teddies, chocolate, champagne, balloons, vases and fruit baskets. The Flower Centre takes telephone orders every day from 7am until 10pm (except Saturdays when it's 8pm), although the shop itself is shut on Sundays. They deliver in south Birmingham, and are part of Interflora so can arrange for flowers to be delivered across the world. It's located on Bristol Road South opposite Northfield Shopping Centre (which used to be called the Grovesnor). There is free short-stay parking along the road and plenty of paid parking in the shopping centre. Whether you're in a hurry to pick up flowers, want a floral display for your wedding or are looking for a gift, this shop is ideal.

They cater for a variety of events and even boast about how they can deal with occasions on a short notice, which I think is useful for those times when you completely forget a birthday or an anniversary. As well as flowers they all sell accompanying gifts such as chocolates and champagne. I think that this is a lovely touch as then you can give someone more than just flowers. When I have been in it has only been to purchase a simple bouquet, but I have always found the staff friendly and very attentive. I have always been a happy customer. This place is definitely worth a visit!

We looked everywhere but either we didn't quite like what was on offer, or if we did see something then it was too expensive. It was my daughter who noticed Budz & Woodz on her way to school one day, she'd heard me say I wanted a wooden wishing well and had spotted one outside this shop which is literally a 2 minute walk from our house. Budz & Woodz is a lovely little shop which is much more impressive than it looks from the outside. It is a florist and a shop which sells anything relating to wood, be it wooden garden objects to sheets of wood to wooden benches. The flower side of the business is excellent. They sell brilliant quality flowers at reasonable prices, I have started buying a bunch now and then to brighten up the living room which is something I've never done before. I bought the wishing well and it looks fantastic in the garden, it's beautifully crafted and looks very rustic and charming. The couple who run Budz & Woodz are lovely, they are always ready to give advice about anything and will recommend only products that are right for you. They will ask lots of questions to make sure you get the right item and this is great considering most shops of this type will try to sell you the most expensive thing in there! They also provide a delivery service for bulkier items which proved to be very handy when my fella bought a fence panel which ended up being too wide for his van!
