I must say it was not always smooth sailing, but no place is perfect. My professors held me accountable for doing my part, they are smart, dedicated and approachable. I have put in the work that my professors set out for me, as every student should, and accomplished what I set out to do. See for yourself, and remember this is a school that is preparing you to have a professional career, think critically and make wise choices In life, if this is not your goal then, this is not the school for you. Nursing is a vocation, it's not a walk in the park. With self discipline, hard work and perseverance you can have your degree at St. Paul's School of Nursing In several months.

As a current student, I feel it's important to share some concerns about the way this school treats…read moreits students. Recently, we received an email stating that students are not permitted to enter classrooms before the scheduled class time so that instructors can "prepare the learning environment." However, in reality, many professors arrive exactly at the start time or even after class is supposed to begin. Meanwhile, students are expected to stand in hallways or find somewhere else to go even when we arrive early after work to study. The only alternative spaces are the library or cafeteria, both of which have very limited seating. It feels unreasonable to pay out of pocket for an education and not even be allowed to sit in an empty classroom while waiting. We then received another email about elevator use, which is understandable for accessibility reasons. However, the message stated that misuse could result in parent/guardian contact. This is a school of adults, and many of us are parents ourselves. Including language like that clearly shows how little the administration thinks of its students and reinforces the feeling that we are treated like children rather than responsible adults paying for a professional education. Another major concern is the lack of respect and support from some faculty members. For example, Professor Jayne Kier is extremely unapproachable. Students feel uncomfortable asking questions because responses are often sarcastic, dismissive, or met with long, intimidating stares. There is little guidance provided, yet students are made to feel as though they are wrong for seeking help. This creates a stressful and discouraging learning environment. Lastly, it often feels like students cannot safely voice concerns. When issues are brought up to administration, they are dismissed as complaints rather than taken seriously even though many of us are committed, adult learners who care deeply about our education and future careers. It is incredibly disappointing to be treated this way as paying adult students. We invest our time, energy, and money into this program, yet we are treated as if we are receiving a free service and should simply accept it without question. The tone and treatment are not only disrespectful, they are humiliating.

I trusted her and innocently told her that my husband and I wanted to find out the proper etiquette on a few things because we had some different understandings. After asking a few questions, Patricia gave me the look that my marriage was in trouble. She asked how long my husband and I have been together. And then with an evil smile on her face, she asked the class how long did everybody think my marriage would last. The class didn't respond and she repeated her question. I believe the class either didn't hear the question or thought that was inappropriate and ignored her again. In the class in front of everybody, she told a man that he was overweight and he needed to lose weight. She called that her advice to him. After the class, a woman politely invited the class to take a group picture. Patricia was very reluctant to do that. She asked that woman, 'Didn't we do that over lunch already?' The class had lunch together after the first session. After we we finished dessert, Patricia took out her lipstick and mirror to apply at the dining table. That looked really weird. I haven't seen anybody doing that for a long time already. It is absolutely an unacceptable table manner.

Last weekend, I traveled to New York to attend Patricia Fitzpatrick's Finishing School for Adults…read moreprogram. There were eleven of us attending the class, with students from all around the country and diverse career backgrounds. This is a valuable program, evidenced by people traveling from afar to attend. Speaking from experience, Patricia has given me life-altering skills to practice on my own. Right after class, I told my husband that the important thing was not necessarily what I learned in class, but that I learned about how much I do not know. In the future, if I anticipate dealings within my social or business arena, I will research etiquette from where another person is from to see if my manners match theirs. If it leads to one contract, one sale, one friendship, or a positive memory, then the class and research would all be worth it! Indeed, the class teaches what to do in certain situations, but more importantly, how to respond when someone else is not exhibiting proper behavior in said situations. There were many 'common sense' discussions, however, many people (including myself) are not mindful of these approaches until there is a discussion about them. It really does boil down to treat others the way you would want to be treated. But I think the edge that Patricia's program has is to teach us that we need to learn how others' wants differ from our own. The class I took was a Saturday workshop, combining four sections into one day. There could have easily been four separate days. Every section was riveting. I felt the environment was conducive to the participation of the students, tying concepts to our own life experiences. We asked some great questions. Patricia is a fine adult educator and maintained her poise at all times, teaching by example. At lunch I realized that many of us all had the same fear prior to the class. I was sweating getting ready for class, thinking that my image would be criticized from my head to my toes. Patricia did not criticize. She explained things. She focused on positive attributes and how to accent them. Then she spoke about how to handle less appealing attributes and showed photos of before and after shots of people doing the same. She taught me a valuable lesson. Classy people never make others feel bad about themselves. Thank you, Patricia! Several of us have a greater amount of self confidence and comfort in our styles moving forward.

There are all different reasons why people try to experience the class, but mostly curious to what it may be. During the second class, I realized that it was not for me. I understood it to be more of a self-help class than a philosophical class. I was more interested in why than how to. I was not looking for a peaceful state of mind through meditation but was hoping to gain more wisdom through contrary philosophical discussions.

She started with Max when she was 5 years old. She is now 7. I have used other chess grandmasters and she was never excited as she is with Max. Through my experiences, I came to realize that not only is Max a grandmaster, he is also an excellent chess instructor! Max Chess Academy offers private lessons as well as group lessons. He engages his students with different exercises and drills. Max was World Blitz Champion therefore he has the extra skill of teaching Blitz chess which my daughter absolutely loves! She loves the challenge of thinking or making decisions and moving the pieces at lightening speed. It's actually very interesting to watch! Max really cares and looks after his students. He is results driven. He even goes to local and out of state tournaments to coach his students. He appreciates that parents are putting an effort into teaching their kids chess and he takes that commitment seriously. The location itself is excellent. He is located on 1st between 76th and 77th. There is a comfortable waiting area for parents to sit and wait. Along with group classes he also has classes for school breaks and summer. He also has other instructors. I believe he offers chess instruction in mandarin and Russian as well! My daughter has really benefitted from chess instruction with Max outside of chess itself. She has developed great problem solving skills, memory, endurance and even emotional intelligence. Believe it or not these youngsters experience a lot of highs and lows on the chess board. I can't thank Max enough for commitment and attention he has given our daughter. Every child can benefit from learning chess. They may not all be grandmasters but I promise you the skills they learn at a young age they will utilize for the rest of their lives!

The gold room is more for stronger tournament play while the silver room is more of a younger kids room (I assume this is used for his lessons.) A good change from the somewhat stuffy Marshall for events. Check the website though the calendar is a bit confusing. Give them a call if you are having issues. My only issue with the place is it's location. It's not the neighborhood of course but the Upper East Side means late running tournaments are really hard to get home from. There is a 6 train somewhat close to here...somewhat.
