I listened for the first time today. I like to run on the treadmill first thing in the morning for 15 minutes and listen to music to pump me up. After listening to commercials and boring banter. I listened to one weak ass slow song. I finished my run and they were still talking when I switched stations. I guess Alternative means talking at this station. read more

I'm officially jealous. The indie hipster within just whimpered and dirtied itself. This is what I've been lacking after moving back to my hometown: a radio station consistently worth listening to. One that doesn't make me surf the frequencies to stay awake, or wrestle with the value of satellite radio versus books on tape. Yes, the occasional 90s alternative rock song sneaks into the playlist, and the rare soundtrack to a stoner's haven. But the ratio of songs I wanna hear to the songs I just don't like is completely inverted here in Philly with this station. When I'm smiling and bee boppin' around in the driver's seat instead of road raging at Friday afternoon I-95 traffic, you know 104.5 is doing something right. Hooray for iHeartRadio! read more

Great station the music of my college days (Pearl Jam Nirvana Oasis) even grade school days (Siouxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode Soft Cell The Smiths) They do the selection really well and they don't cut the songs early they just let you cruise with the song on I95 traffic. Radio 104.5 does a lot for it's listeners and real people do win. I have lived in DE most of my life and have never won anything from the local radio station ever. But in the last 2 years I have won from 104.5 Coldplay, Cage the Elephant, and Winter Jam tickets, as well as a Cage and Phantogram meet and greet, and my boyfriend won Coldplay tickets and a private concert and meet and greet with Vance Joy. It's a hike to Philly to pick up the tickets, but why would we listen to any other station??? read more

On the drive up from DC, I discovered 104.5. I am loving it as it has a nice mix of the bands that I used to listen to in high school- its cool hearing blink-182, coldplay, foo fighters, smashing pumpkins, oasis, and especially U2 (my personal fav) being played on the radio with regular frequency. They also have current bands, like muse and Death Cab also being dealt into the mix. They are starting to feature some new music and I really like being able to wake up to music in the morning without having annoying disc jockey talk Woo-hoo! I haven't checked anything else out here in Philly on the radio because I haven't had a reason to change the station. read more

So, Y-100 went off of the air to be replaced by a rap station. A few years later, Clear Channel brought it back and called it WRFF 104.5. It uses the exact same playlist, to obscure songs like Local H "Bound to the Floor." It mixes in some new stuff, but it mainly sticks to the circa-2002 Y100 playlist, including the heavy dose of 90s rock. What it doesn't have are the great jocks that made Y100 famous. It's like listening to Y100 ran by some robot. You might hear songs you like but that's all you'll get. And, just like Y100, you'll hear Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, and Foo Fighters every hour, often multiple times during the hour. I vehemently dislike the Chili Peppers so I disliked Y100 more than I should have...the same here. You literally can't go 45 minutes without hearing them on this station! That being said, Philly is devoid of rock stations, so 104.5 is a somewhat pleasant return to the past, even though it's a bit hollow. 2.5 stars read more

Radio 104.5 plays great alternative rock from the 80's onwards. The play some of the best songs and introduces listeners to some new great music. This is Philadelphia's alt-rock station and is the best station in Philly. read more

"Philly's Alternative" is pretty good. I listen to 104.5 or 102.9 if I'm in the car with my dad. But, I would listen to 104.5 on my own. It's really good music! read more

As a fan of ads, I don't know of a better station that 104.5. I know that no matter if it's my drive to work, or the drive home, or even a quick midday jaunt to the grocery store, I am 100% guaranteed to hear advertisements. When I've had a bad day at work or my car starts making a funny noise or I experience any of life's myriad stressors, I at least know that there will always be the soothing familiar reminder from 104.5 that America Runs on Dunkin. I did withhold one star, and that's because occasionally (although rarely) they DO play music on this station. Granted it's pretty much always Stressed Out by 21 Pilots, so you know what to expect, and props to the station for playing the same thing about 10 times a day so their listeners don't get confused and think they've stumbled onto a music station, but I really think 104.5 should stick to what it's good at, and that is without a doubt playing advertisements 80% of the time. Keep up the good work 104.5! read more

When I first moved to Philly I was surfing through the local radio stations and found one with some familiar sounds. As I listened more I heard several bands that were already on my iPod combined with some similar stuff that caught my interest. Since that first listen Radio 104.5 has been number 1 on my presets. Not a ton of talk, great music, live performances, and new bands constantly being introduced to my ears. All that topped of with the free summer concert series and their birthday shows and you got one amazing station. I actually texted in and won tickets to this year's show. The line-up was amazing. Definitely the best prize I ever won. Other than Sirius/XM's Alt Nation, I haven't found another station like it. I could do with a little less Pearl Jam if we're being honest, not that I have a problem with them, it's just more than I like. As long as I'm in Philly, this will be my go-to station. Glad to see there is at least one alternative station we can get at the Jersey Shore....even if the signal cuts out once you get to Monmouth County.. The lame-stream media company bought up all the good stations (106.3/106.5) and the others over the years and turned them into country and news stations to make them sound like NJ 101.5..... read more

I remember when 104.5 first started, they hardly had any ads. These days, 104.5 has an absolutely insane amount of ads to have to sit through before you can actually get to listen to music during certain portions of the day. Today I was driving in my car and timed it--ads started at 1:41 PM and didn't stop until 1:50 PM. Almost 10 minutes straight of ads is absolutely absurd. I'll continue to use apps on my phone the majority of the time. read more
