Like any Caribbean restaurant the better the food, the worse the service and the food here is bussin!! You can't have both when it comes to Jamaicans, Haitian, or any other nationality that serves goat! I will be back for this food! A bit pricey but they give you a lot of food. read more

Had to write a review these people are robbers today would be my third time ordering something and it's not what I ordered they have things on the menu that they don't have instead of reimbursing you your money they send you anything and that's not right then on top of being not the right food the food taste nasty like they tried to fix up what they had to your liking I will not be ordering from these robberies again I work hard all day and I should receive what I ordered because you took my money read more

I would NOT recommend this restaurant for many reasons..... 1.Food is horrible, presentation is sucks. 2. They had the nerves to serve left over Fritay, and their fritay only consist of plantains, akra and the meat which was very chewy and uncooked with some onions that they called pikliz. The legume was full of grease and the shrimp had the scales on em...yuck" When contacted them....they justified all of of their mishaps. 3. Small portions. For almost $60, two people should have had decent amount of good food to eat. If there was a -star, that's what I would have given them. read more

WARNING IF YOUR HUNGRY DONT COME HERE THEY R TERRIBLE THEY WILL THE POLICE AND GIVE YOU A TERRIBLE ORDER THAN CHARGER YOU A LEG AND A ARM. So I ordered from this establishment on July 1st through Uber Eats. I ordered griot ,rice, jerk chicken. The food came stapled which is normal. I open it the chicken and I see 2 drums and a small plate of rice which was $25. That doesn't make any sense. I paid $60 in total for half portions and meat that was dry and inedible. Times are rough and to take money from a mother is crazy. I went to the establishment and the owner decided to yell and scream at me than proceeded to call the police. She wanted the police to arrest me but the police officers were very understanding and let me go because I never didn't anything wrong. PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS RESTAURANT‼‼‼‼DONT GO UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE DISRESPECTED read more

The food is excellent!!! Unfortunately, as others have posted, the service was lacking... the young man was nice and polite but he left us to ourselves for a long time. We didn't get our drinks until we asked 3x and finally got it after we were half way through our entrées. Took a long time for him to come out and give us the check, we could have walked out without paying and I don't think they would notice... :/ Appetizer Platter: Skewered griot with bell pepper and onion, akra, chiquetaille, and plantains Delicious, get to try a few things in 1 plate. My fav is the chiquetaille. It would be perfect with some Mais Moulin :D. Griot was excellent. Akra was never something I liked, these were ok but it was delicious with the Chiquetaille. Plantains were perfectly made, not too thick not to thin, nice and crispy not burnt. The Seafood Legume was delicious unfortunately there was only a quarter of a Crab with no other "seafood"... Oxtail was good, very spicy lol It could have been a bit more tender. Cola Lacaye was ok Passionfruit Lemonade Tea was delicious! So much potential, just need better team of staff out front. read more

Absoultely delicious. Came here on a lovely day out on a date and the food was just like back home. The pate with herring was just like my aunt used to make. The service was pretty standard. My only gripe was the fact that there were no more smoothies available to go with our meal. My date had the Turkey which I thought would have been more like a stew and I had the salmon which was totally worth it. We left with extra food. Portions were nice! I can't wait to come back! read more

Back again!!! Fried goat appetizer- good but needs a sauce to liven it up Broiled fish with creole sauce- very good Oxtail- good Herring appetizer- am -------//------ Back for more!! Ok the herring appetizer is beyond delicious!!! You must get this!! Deep fried turkey- good but too salty for me. Black rice-amazing as always Snapper Caribbean sauce- delicious The owner is very friendly and the business is doing well. We will be back to try more. One pet peeve- instead of packing leftovers for us they brought containers for us to do it. The restaurant is the expert at packing food and should do it for customers like other nice restaurants in the area. --------------- Cute restaurant! Perfect for casual date night with the boo! Tastefully decorated. We ordered food to go. Fried goat with black rice and plantains- so good especially with the spicy sauce. The goat was tender. Red snapper was delicious! Totally coming back here. Been eating the food a read more

The food was delicious. We tried one appetizer and three different dishes which I strongly recommend. Eat dish comes with a choice of rice and a salad. They also have a pickled onions on each of the dishes that has a kick of heat. We ate at the restaurant, the service is slow so be patient and there were some fruit flies around BUT this place is a gem and a whole in the wall. Will be returning probably just for pick up but the food was delicious. read more

Customer service is really non existent and I'm still giving 5 stars which speaks to the food. The chef was also my waitress. I can't be mad at a restaurant for being understaffed - I truly think they just need more business. I ordered the fried fish, their homemade lemonade, and papaya juice. The lemonade and juice was bomb! I don't know what I've been drinking in America my whole life but my standards went up after tonight! Idk what they put in that papaya juice! I don't think it was cr***. I hope not. But man oh man. To the food - I got fried fish that really could've lasted me 3 different sittings, and I have a huge appetite. I finished it in two. Great portions! The fried fish was a little salty to me but it ain't stop me from devouring the fish! Great spice added to the food as well. If I don't feel like grocery shopping I may get the fish to last me for two nights. So serious! Definitely support. I can't wait to try something else from their menu. read more

PROS 1. SUPER Flavorful Huge Fried Red Snapper!! 2. Delicious Fried, Juicy, Chunky Griot! (Fried Pork) 3. Delicious Crunchy, Thick Akras (Malanga Fritters aka Yautia Fritters) Taste like Puerto Rican Alcapurrias without the Ground beef inside. VERY ADDICTING 4. The Best Pikliz ever!! 5. Pate Korde was freshly fried and flavorful chicken filling. 6. Creole Chicken Stew is Spicy and Flavorful. 7. Djon Djon Rice is Flavorful. 8. Beautiful Tropical Interior. 9. Friendly Staff. 10. Fried Tasso Beef was Flavorful and Tender. 11. Fried Tasso Goat was Flavorful and Tender. CONS 1. The Chicken Creole needs more Flavor. 2. The Pate Korde needs more Filling. 3. Creole Chicken and Shrimp Pasta was good but the Chicken Pieces was Not Fresh. It had a bad aftertaste. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. The food is great, but the service is TERRIBLE. Do not go if you are hungry because cooking takes about the same amount of time. Every time I go , I wait 30+ minutes to receive my meal, after calling in prior. No hostess to ask questions or to order; most of the time you must wait until someone comes from the kitchen to get their attention. read more

This restaurant was a good find. I really wanted some Haitian food and tried this spot. I called in the order and inquired about a few dishes. At first it didn't seem like she wanted to answer but then she came around and got nice. It was like night and day lol. I ordered the seafood legume and black rice. When I arrived I parked on tbe street. It was a cute set up when I walked in and I was greeted. Another lady came to take payment and it was $21 which was pricey but it was a pretty decent amount of food. When I got home I dug in and it was really good. Besides the price and weird service on the call I liked it all. I will be bsck. read more

After swearing this restaurant off, my bf convinced me to give it one more chance. I have to say, I'm very glad that I did. Woulibam stepped up their services and not only provided a very nice portion of food but food that was flavorful and fresh. If this restaurant continues to provide service like this with food this good, they can take my whole bank account because I'll be ordering here every week. Woulibam's got me believing in second chances. I'll give a second chance to my enemy if the turnaround is as good as Woulibam's. read more

Great portions... through Uber eats, I ordered the lambi, the criot lakay , the tasso de beuf, the chicken creole and the Haitian rum cake. I did not receive the cake. Instead I received a smoothie... I don't know what flavor, it was too thick and separating. Not too nice on the palette....The food was warm upon delivery... I couldn't enjoy my meal due to it being extremely spicy.... Don't get me wrong, I love spice, but this was over spicy. The "Caribbean coleslaw " which was supposed to be pikliz was large cuts of onions seasoned with scotch bonnet peppers... it was on the criot lakay and the lambi. The scotch bonnet took over the entire meal... no one could enjoy the meal at all... the portion fits the price but because of the spice, the quality fell off. read more

Today, while arriving to pick up an Uber eat order ,I asked to use the restroom . Upon asking to use the restroom the female host was very rude stating that I was not allowed to use the restroom even after me showing the order I was there to receive. I've been a frequent customer at WOULIBAN Rest. for about 1 year now, often they will send me the wrong items I usually give them a pass, meaning I appreciate that this business was opened during Covid. Many times I've ordered 3 or 4 times in one week. Last night around 8:30 pm, I ordered the fish with rice and beans,I wanted the $25 fish I was told they only have the $40 I said ok. When I got the fish after 9:30 pm it wasn't cooked properly, taste and looked uncooked and I was sent black rice, today I called and explained that I am bringing the fish back and I want another with the correct rice for my money, when I got there the fish wasn't ready I showed her the fish and told her about the rice,I waited 15 minutes when I got home I realized she refried the same fish and apologized. How do I know because I ate a part of the fish then realized that the fish wasn't cooked? She refried the same fish probably in the same oil that every other fish will be cooked for the night? The same fish I ate out of at home the night before. Shocking, never again. read more

Food is so good. Pricey though! I've eaten inside and usually order for pick up. Def the best Haitian restaurant in Maplewood for sure. Every time I have family come visit from out of town I recommend them. Oh and I'm Haitian-- so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to Haitian food. The lambi is usually very spicy, griot, legume, snapper, sos pwa all very tastey. If you eat inside it's very nice for a group of friends or even a first date. Nice decor. Good music as well. I didn't give 5 stars bc sometimes the service (long wait times/missing items) is inconsistent, but that's all. read more

Service is terrible here. Made reservations and still had to wait 20 minutes when we got there. Non alcoholic drinks cost an arm/leg (it's byob). A lot of menu items "weren't available" but in reality she said she didn't want to bother the cooks to make certain items because they "get mad". The waitress was extremely rude and would randomly walk away from us while taking our orders. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I decided to ignore the reviews and try this place out. And boy was I surprised. The service could be better in terms of how organized they are, however I went there during a busy period (5pm on a Saturday) so that could be the reason. I got the calamari for starters, which was very well seasoned and a bit spicy so if you can't stand spice you should look to an alternative. The Griot and Pikliz was delicious, the summer passion smoothie was really good too. I loved the decor and set up, it's really pretty. All in all I had a good experience, the chef is very nice and polite too. The service could be better. read more

I'm giving them a 3 because they need to hire more people, but I do understand that is a new business. Came here on a Sunday afternoon for early dinner and were greeted by a very nice lady. The problem was as she was the hostess the waitress and the cook so it took a long time to get our orders and and even our check. For appetizers we had the Haitian empanadas with Fish and Chicken. Both were really delicious. For dinner my friend had the chicken and shrimp pasta and I had the oxtails with black rice and salad. The pasta was cooked to perfection and it was very tasty. The oxtails were super tender. We did not have dessert because they have ran out. The restaurant is on the busy street but they offer parking in the back. Looking forward to visiting them again hopefully they can add someone to their service to help them move faster. read more

Ok let me start off by saying I used to be a huge fan of their food in the past even though their food were expensive but at least it was good. Twice now when I order fritay this people have the audacity of replacing my Fritay with rice without even asking me that's what I wanted. Last week I ordered legume even I saw th price I thought I least they would give me enough food for the price.... no no no they gave me the legume on a very small plate that barely have legume on the bowl full with Cabbage like is was Cabbage legume instead of militon. Legume was extremely spicy and charge $20 for sea food legume and if you want meat on the they charge you $3 extra. Guess what they only put 1 shrimp and crab on it for $20 and the rice was so over power by dry shrimp that it tasted disgusting. Many occasion they mess with your food and for them it's normal not to give you th food youv requested on th uber eat app. If you want your food done right you just have to go to their plac where you can make sure to check it right in front of them. Not worth the headache and their over pricey food. Haitian food places have a neck on ignoring what the customer want instead they give you what they have at the time. Like reheat or refried left over plantains from previous cancel orders Some food are even that fresh specifically fritay. Order at your on risk just know you'll always be disappointed and angry. read more

The restaurant could use a bit of an update, but had the typical Caribbean restaurant vibe. The price of the food was pricey, but not sure in comparison to other Haitian restaurants in the area. I ordered a platter of rice and beans, and a platter of chicken with sauce, and some tassot, conch, with black rice. The rice and beans was 8/10, the chicken was 7/10, the tassot 5/10, and conch 5/10. The total for everything was over $250. Other than the lack luster tassot and conch, they forgot my sauce for the platter of chicken. SMDH. HOW DO YOU FORGET THAT! I had only did a quick sweep of the order but was assured everything was in there and being that I was the other customer in the restaurant at the time and didn't think it would be that difficult to keep a relatively small order correct. Fortunately the chicken and rice was edible without but would have definitely made it a 10/10, especially for that price. Would I go back? Yes, but def not for the conch ($35+) or tassot. Def not worth the price. But I would get the chicken as rice&beans... would definitely make sure they don't forget the sauce. I'm usually good at getting pictures of the food however I only have pictures of the interior of the restaurant :( read more

Woulibam - Haitian Near Me - Maplewood, New Jersey

This place is a hit or miss. I've ordered from here three times. The first time was great so we returned. The second time, customer service was lacking and we did not get everything we asked for. Also, the chef was really heavy handed on the spices. The third time (today), was literally the worst prepared and disappointing Haitian food I've had in my life. I couldn't even chew the beef in the legume! The Boulet was cooked on the outside and raw on the inside. The rice was hard and the akra was over cooked. Lastly, I'm pretty sure the meat used was expired. Just absolutely disgusting and inedible. Everything went in the trash. I don't know what is going on with this place but the quality is not there anymore. Eat here at your own risk and if you choose to - Please inspect your food before leaving! read more

Food was excellent! Had the go to classic Griot, Diri Djon Djon, and fried red snapper for the win!

I was in the area and decided to support a local Haitian restaurant. They told me the food would be ready in 25 minutes. When I arrived I waited an additional 30 minutes. We finally got around to checking this place out and it sure didn't disappoint. All the food here is hearty and stuck to your ribs good. For appetizer we had chiquettaile, shredded smoked herring in a dark brown well seasoned sauce served with plantains. It was very hearty. For main We had Lambi and oxtail. Lambi was a spicy and savory conch dish served with black rice and plantains which was out of this world. The oxtail was a classic made in a traditional savory sauce, fall off the bone good. The place is byob with a nice well stocked liquor store right across the street. Both dishes paired well with Zinfandel wine and prestige Haitian beer. For desert we had a rum cake which was a fluffy sponge cake drenched in rum which wasn't then cooked off and was served hot. The place is nice and cozy with nautical decor which gives it an island feel. Place takes card but tips are preferred in cash, which for the quality of food we were happy to oblige. Will most definitely come back soon and I couldn't recommend this place more! read more

came here on a whim while I was waiting for my appointment at the spa next door. Very intimate space, simply decorated and cozy feel. It was valentines day so they were blasting old love ballads. There was only one other couple there so it added to the intimate feel. The appetizer I ordered was delicious, hot, and came out fast. My low rating is due to the service..The hostess/waitress was really awkward? We walked in and said hello and she's just kind of standing there at the front staring. I guess we were supposed to seat ourselves? Then when we ordered she was standing uncomfortably close..like literally right up on us. Something seemed off, and it killed my vibe. read more
