It seems inbred having the same retired professor types on the air for years offering a little more than just sounding nice. I don't think they've earned their license. I think they should be putting students on the air with some rotation instead of just the old uninspiring tired radio personalities and perpetual guests. I think if they were doing a better job they wouldn't need government funding. Their control freaks they don't announce the topics that guests will be speaking on in advance so callers can prepare and there's some hope of a solid program. Out of state public radio stations like Chuckavardi from Boston are much better. Probably NYC public radio would be better Then this jingoistic Wisconsin garbage.

Thus, when I recommend To the Best of Our Knowledge (ttBook.org) please take it as an informed recommendation. The subject matter and topics are eclectic yet consistently interesting. The segments are intellectual without being stuffy; they are analytically done yet they don't discount the value of the emotional or the just plain funny or silly. It really is my favorite public radio program. It also comes in podcast (including on iTunes). When I have had a frazzled day and need to reground, I will relax in a hot bubble bath and listen to the Podcast. The programs are always interesting and relaxing. After listening to ttBook, I always feel like I had a great conversation with a smart and interesting old friend. I also find that speaking with friends I always find myself referencing things I heard on the program. In addition, I find that I almost always look up books and media I heard referenced on the program. 5 Stars are well deserved. For me, this is as good as public radio gets.
