Located in Baker Ca across from Alien Jerky. Worth the stop check it out they have a store there and of course the Worlds largest thermometer along with a little history tidbits

Damn that's tall Halfway between LA and LV is this spot. It is literally in the middle of nowhere. It's tucked between an abandoned Hawaiian theme motel and the alien abduction jerky place. Plus there's a gas station with restrooms down the road. I guess it's accurate. I compared the reading to the car thermometer and they were only off by one degree. Overall four stars. It's worth the stopover for a few mins. M

You can spot this bad boy coming down I-15 -- no way you can miss it! I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to add this stop to your itinerary, but if it's in route -- MAKE THE STOP. Snap a photo. Visit the gift shop. Then keep on truckin' to your next stop. The temp seemed slight off and didn't look super cool since there was minimal red on the thermometer as it was only in the 60s, but I can tell you I do NOT want to be here to see it hit triple digits lol The gift shop is underwhelming and will take you a few mins to look through. Lots of branded clothing, outdated ornaments, a souvenir penny machine, postcards, cold drinks and a few snack options. They have fairly clean bathrooms so you can always use it as your bathroom stop. Nothing to write home about. Should only take about 5 mins. Only recommending if it's in route on your roadtrip/destination.

Yupppp It's hot in here! Kinda cool to see such a big thermometer! On the same strip there are restaurants, gas stations, market and alien jerky

The Termometer is a great stopping point on the way to Las Vegas . There are plenty of gas stations and restaurants in the area also.

158/2024 Always an experience to look at this tallest thermometer!!! It's still 2 digits thank goodness! This steel electric sign landmark is about 134 feet high and visible from the I-15 FRWY.

This is literally just a quick stop to see the World's Tallest Thermometer. It was nice weather, so no three digit temperature!

This is the world's tallest thermometer. It is located down the street from Alien Fresh Jerky. I don't think the reading on the thermometer is correct. It needs to get fixed. We did see a gift shop, but didn't go in.

Bought some spicy taco flavored puff corn for a road snack traveling through. Upon opening it smelled like diesel fuel, and tasted like plastic, it was also stale! Looked at the date and it expired 2/23/25! Although the guy who sold it to us was super nice, I was unhappy with this purchase.... And it cost $10!

While traveling from Las Vegas we stopped at the Worlds Talles Thermometer. Why, you may ask, and I have to say, why not. Its something differnt to see and take your souviner photos for your social media, lol Looked at the thermometr and it was tall. Lucky for us the temperature was not in the hundreds. Temp was in the 90's so it was bearable for a bit, because it felt hotter. At the bottom of the the worlds tallest thermometer there is a seating area for guest to enjoy the desert scenery, have a light snack or share a meal with family and friends. We had no meal to enjoy so we continued on our journey through the desert. There is also a small shop that has lots of information on display about the founders and owners of the worlds largest thermometer. Come in and learn the history of this quirky road site attraction. There a veriety of souviners to shooce from like t-shirts, magnets, cups, and cool childrens books. They have a penny smacher matchine for those who like collecting smashed pennies from their travels. yes, I had to gey one, lol. Remember to sing in their guest book before you leave. Visiters from all over the world have visited here and left their mark in one of their many guest books. Currenct from all over the world is also displayed on their walls and its cool to see where others are visiting from.

An interesting place to stop and explore the worlds tallest thermometer. we ended up buying souvenirs while waiting for the EV to charge. The gift shop is a great place to relax and stay out of the heat.

This roadside attraction is one of those quirky things that makes up the backbone of America. I felt like I was with Chevy Chase in Vacation when I was looking at it. The attraction is exactly as advertised: a REALLY tall thermometer. At the border of Death Valley, that mercury goes pretty high in summer.

    Yep, it's tall.

I don't know why I have never been through here in my entire life, but it was neat to see the landscape and feeling like I was playing Frogger as I was trying to avoid all the potholes in the 2 lane road. One random stop we came across in the middle of the preserve was the Kelso Depot. I only stopped because I saw that there was a restroom that we could use, and then was surprised to see an actual visitor center to peruse. From the signage out front here's the history: "Built in 1924, the Kelso Depot housed a train station, ticket and telegraph office, restaurant, reading room, and dormitory rooms for railroad employees. It was often called the Kelso Club House, a Union Pacific Railroad term for employee boarding and recreational facilities. As railroad technology improved and fewer personnel were needed, the Depot became obsolete. It was closed in 1985, and Union Pacific planned to raze the building. Concerned citizens intervened and the building was saved. It was renovated and reopened as a National Park Service Visitor Center in October 2005." The Depot is currently under construction as of 12/2025, but you can walk around the building and peek in through the windows. Apparently the area around the depot was like a little village during WW II. It's neat to imagine what life would've been like living out here in the middle of nowhere back in the 1940's. There's no internet out in Kelso, but you can log into the NPS Wi-Fi while you're there.

Founded in 1881 during the silver mining boom, the town prospered for over a decade before declining when silver prices collapsed. By 1907, most residents had left, and Calico was eventually restored and transformed into the county-operated attraction known today as Calico Ghost Town.   Situated just off Interstate 15, about 3 miles from both Barstow and Yermo, Calico has become a popular stop for travelers exploring Southern California or driving between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. We visited in February 2026 during our trip to Las Vegas and were impressed by the dramatic desert scenery, unique rock formations, and panoramic views from the surrounding hills.   Today, visitors from around the world come to experience the atmosphere of an authentic Old West mining town. The park offers a variety of amenities, including RV and group camping, cabins and bunkhouses, mountain biking trails, off-road vehicle areas, shops, and restaurants. Throughout the year, Calico hosts several special events such as Civil War reenactments, the Spring Festival with Americana music, Calico Days celebrations featuring burro races and mining-themed activities, and the popular Halloween Ghost Haunt in October.   Only minutes from Interstate 15 and a short drive north of Barstow, Calico Ghost Town makes an enjoyable roadside stop for food, shopping, sightseeing, and a glimpse into California's mining history. However, I would recommend visiting Calico Ghost Town during the spring or winter months rather than in the summer, when desert temperatures can become extremely hot and less comfortable for exploring the outdoor attractions and surrounding hills.

It looks so unclean everywhere we went. Also...I dont feel many workers are in Character anymore. I miss that. If they are even dressed up they are just sitting around on their phones or talking to each ither. Zero interaction. Zero immersion... just so disappointed.
