Great tourist stop right off the highway! Hard to miss with all the signs, and either exit will get you there. It is a recommended $5 donation to enter, and is totally worth it. The area is clean and lots of history to entertain the older crowd and hands on experiences for the kiddos (pony rides, and activities) I'm especially impressed by their "Talking Trail" and enchroma binoculars to make the nature and history in their area accessible to visitors!

Did you know that in Jamestown, ND, you can find a 26-foot-tall buffalo that is considered the world's largest buffalo monument? It's made with 60 tons of concrete, and bypassing what looked like a sleepy mini town of the old west, you make your way up a path to the large sculpture! I love how it's so random, and it's such a fun roadside attraction to stop by to take some pictures and selfies. There's plenty of parking in the gravel lot before the main path, and you can't miss it with the many signs that lead you to the monument. If you're in the area, try to make a pit stop! +largest buffalo monument +plenty of parking

Made a pit stop to visit the World's largest Buffalo. There is also a cute little old village leading up to it and the museum down the driveway.

It's exactly what it says! It was cool. One thing I hadn't realized is that it's one stop in a self guided tour. Using your own phone you can hear information about the Buffalo and other sites in Jamestown. The Buffalo is at the far end of an old-timey frontier village that had buildings preserved from the settlement days. Each building was also a stop on the tour. It was a great place for photos. It's an entertaining stop for families/kids but even if you're an adult or single you'll get a kick out of it! There are apparently other stops on the audio tour in modern Jamestown, but I hadn't budgeted time to explore all of that since I didn't know about it beforehand. Had I realized there was more to Jamestown I would've spent the night or at least blocked out the whole day to see the rest of the sites on the tour. Seeing the Buffalo and the frontier town is free (they do have a box for donations) but there's also a Buffalo Museum that charges admission. I didn't get to tour the Museum.

When I knew I would be in North Dakota, the World's Largest Buffalo went on my to do list. Although it was cold and SUPER windy, I think it was worth the stop. It was fun to see and take pictures with and just get out and stretch the legs from driving. Fortunately this stop is right off the highway and was along the route I was travelling. If in the area, I definitely recommend stopping.

Great roadside attraction. I accessed the site fairly early in the morning after spotting the billboard along the interstate. The buffalo is very large and a great photo op for all the insta kids. There is also a nice mockup of old west town village that you can explore, also great for photo ops. I did not visit the Buffalo Museum that was on site because I was there before they opened.

Wanted to stop on the way out to Medora but it was raining. There is a cute frontier village with some shops next to it. A short walk and it's free. I love bison.

Take a selfie and continue on your way.

I didn't go into the museum, but I did check out the World's Largest Buffalo Monument because it's FREE! What more can I say about it - it's a giant buffalo. Take a selfie with it...you can find it at the end of Frontier Village (it's literally hard to miss). There's not much along the way driving through the highway, so might as well make a quick pit stop.

This is a fun side of the highway pitstop. We were actually staying in town for the night and saw a brochure which is how we found out about it. There's a whole little village setup with stores and museums. It seemed like it would have been cool, but we were there early in the morning and nothing was open yet. We just drove down to the end, parked, and checked out the statue. It's a huge statue so we obviously got some pictures standing under it. There are a couple parts that are kind of falling off, but it's pretty well maintained. I wouldn't go out of the way to come see this, but if you're driving by, it's worth stopping at.

I stopped by here earlier today with my wife and her parents. We were en route from Bismarck to Fargo whenever I noticed the sign for Jamestown. You see the night before I had noticed in a tourism book that Jamestown had the Worlds Largest Buffalo as well as the National Buffalo Museum and so we decided to stop. The sculpture itself is located just through frontier village and is free. It's large and actually overlooks the highway and was as advertised. On the morning we were there, the light was bad for photo taking and would probably be a lot better in the afternoon. Overall though, a positive visit. The bottom line for me is that I would recommend this to anyone who has an extra 15 minutes and is passing by. I would make the drive over from Fargo or Bismarck but did think it was a fun roadside attraction.

We took some fun pictures here. Can't complain at all it's like a tradition for us to go to the village and shop. Also calling the great statue a buffalo is incorrect since the animal depicted is actually an American bison lol

Love that this spot is still free!! Bummed we didn't see the "herd" but grabbed our photo-op and went on our way. Loved the little western town they have created and would love to come back some day to check out all the shops and museums.

Nice place to stop and stretch your legs. It's a short walk to see the sculpture up close. There's an old village replica near the buffalo sculpture that you can also walk through if you're interested.

This past summer, our family visited the Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile State Historic Site in…read moreNorth Dakota during our summer road trip, and it was an unforgettable experience! This museum is not just a fascinating glimpse into Cold War history; it offers a deeper understanding of the era's impact on our country and the world. The middle-of-nowhere site features a restored missile silo and an informative visitor center, showcasing the history of the Minuteman missile program and its role in nuclear deterrence. Walking through the exhibits, we learned about the technological advancements of the time and the strategic importance of North Dakota in national defense. It was enlightening for both the adults and kids in our group. What made our visit even more memorable was the sudden summer thunderstorm that rolled in while we were exploring the outdoor exhibits. The dramatic skies and the sound of thunder added an unexpected thrill to our experience. We huddled together in the visitor center, watching the rain pour down, and shared stories and laughter while learning about history. It was a beautiful moment of connection, both as a family and with the rich history surrounding us. Driving across NoDak, the be can spot many decommissioned missle silos-- for a while, some folks were buying them just to own a piece of history, and maybe recycle the metal left on the property (pretty sure the military took all the Uranium and Plutonium when they left...) If you're looking for a unique and educational stop on your road trip, I highly recommend the Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile Museum. It's a great blend of history and family fun, and you might even get a dose of that quintessential North Dakota summer weather to make your visit even more memorable

Awesome tour! We…read moredrove about a hour and a half from Fargo to check out this site. You pass lots of farm land. The location is just outside of Cooperstown. Pulling up to the location it was hard to tell if we were at the right place but there was a sign on the fence. The entrance is in the front of the building. We were greeted by Mickey and she gave us a great overview of the facility. The tour costs $10. It starts with a 20 minute video about the Cold War area, why the missile silos were created, and information about the building of this location. After the video there are some descriptive posters about the Cold War and where the missile sites were located. Then you go through the facility as it was left original in all its 80s glory. After the above ground tour you get to take the elevator below ground to the launch control area. The tour was highly informative and really opened up your mind to the historical importance of this location. Although there is no missile silo to see, it was still very much worth the trip. The tour guide also gave a great overview of how the facility operated and was great at answering questions.
