This was a cool stop. And it was unexpected! I had just come to see the World's Largest Buffalo. Little did I know there was a Frontier village too! It's free to visit (there's a box for donations) and each building is a stop on an audio tour you can listen to on your phone. And the audio tour is a much larger tour that extends to modern Jamestown as well (I didn't have time to do that). Lots of photo ops. Great for families or for individuals. The World's largest Buffalo and a Buffalo museum (admission required) are on the same grounds. There's also a souvenir shop that has good ND stuff. Even better selection that I was able to find in either Bismarck or Fargo. read more

We stopped in because we were passing through Jamestown and wanted to see the world's largest buffalo. Frontier Villiage is a reconstruction of an 1800s prairie town. It is also home to the world's largest buffalo. This giant is 60 feet long and weighs 60 tons. If you pass through Jamestown and are into old west history, this is a must see. read more

Worth the visit if you are here to see the world's biggest bison statue or the nearby bison discovery center. Some for eh town buildings have more details than others but as a whole a good representation of a frontier town. The frontier antique shop had lots of things to choose from although not from the frontier time. The general store/giftshop had quite a few frontier village themed items like shirts and mugs plus unique scooped ice cream. Definitely try the to do the scavenger hunt for the hidden items in the floor at the general store. read more

When I knew I would be in North Dakota, Frontier Village went on my to do list. Although it was cold and SUPER windy, I think it was worth the stop. It was fun to see and take pictures with and just get out and stretch the legs from driving. Fortunately this stop is right off the highway and was along the route I was travelling. If in the area, I definitely recommend stopping. We missed Frontier Village being open by a week or two. Although the doors to all of the old buimdings are locked, you can still see in the windows which zi thought was just as good of an experience. read more

Frontier Village is FREE and is set up like an old western town. They have a bar, dentist office, jail, general store etc. They had fun picture opportunities through out. My son said it looked like you could have a showdown in the middle of town. They have a wonderful moderately priced gift shop (the most inexpensive souvenirs I had seen in 13 states). You can hand feed buffalo and a horse and I believe that had some food available but we did not check it out. Friendly staff and the whole area seems to rally around this attraction. Definitely worth a stop. read more

This was a sweet and simple little stop as we cut our way across North Dakota. It's true that there are few attractions along I94, so I suggest planning out a 30 minute picnic and pit stop here. You'll find the worlds largest buffalo, a small recreation of a historic plains town (complete with a saloon, blacksmith, church, etc.), clean bathrooms, easy parking and picnic benches. It was very quiet and empty while we were there but we lucked out in arriving during an outdoor church service in the small amphitheater and listened to their singing from afar. A sweet and simple stop to stretch your legs along the journey. All free with donations accepted to keep the small town alive. read more

Great stuff here. Some buildings had history and you could read about the old times, some you could walk right up to stuff and touch it. Stores were great with good selections. This one store had literally hundreds of vintage lapel pins. A hipster's dream cache! I got a boy scouts circa 1980 pin along with others. Anyways, great for kids for sure. Not too big so you can easily cruise through it all fairly quickly. Worth it along with a pic of the ginormous buffalo. read more

100% tourist trap!!! Feed the buffalo? They sell you food to feed them and the buffalo are out in the pastures and never come up close to interact or be fed. read more

Exceeded expectations! We planned a stop mostly to get a break from driving on the way to Yellowstone, but we really enjoyed it, and stayed longer than we expected to. So many historic buildings to tour, inside and out, with so many period artifacts. Our grandsons, 9 and 11, loved it. They wanted to check out every single building. It was a nice bonus for us that they allowed dogs on the grounds. read more

These are old buildings and 3 stores by the world's largest Buffalo. There are pony rides and stagecoach rides too. Didn't buy anything.

You'll be passing through here if you're going to visit the World's Largest Buffalo Monument or the Buffalo Museum. It's a cute town that's great for photo-ops. There's a few small stores, but you probably won't need to spend more than half an hour in this place. read more

There isn't much when it comes to sightseeing as you cross North Dakota from Fargo to Bismarck. One thing this state likes is its super large animals sitting on top of hills. Frontier Village is home to the largest buffalo in the world and has been keeping watch over the "town" since the 1950's. The village is set-up as an old Western theme with displays of a bank, dentist, jail, etc. sprinkled within the town are a few gift shops that offer themed ND items. A couple of them were pretty large in size. And antiques are up for sale for those that find value and appreciate old stuff. And who doesn't like free? There's no cost to stroll through the town and see the eye boggling buffalo and take in the views. If you're passing through Jamestown make a stop. It's also located next to the National Buffalo Museum where you can see a taxidermy of an albino white buffalo for about $8. read more

This spontaneous unplanned visit turned out to be one of my favorite stops driving in east North Dakota - and highly recommend at least a short stop to walk around and see what's there. It's free - unless you decide to buy something from one of the stores there (which also can worth visiting if you haven't already found something to bring back for others). Either way, plan on spending more time than you expect here - and enjoying it. read more
