There is a sign that says no hard ball play on the area though so cricket is out but with tennis balls it would be okay. They also have a basketball area and tennis court. On top of that there isa fantastic playground with heaps of different area's and activites as well as a Liberty Swing. It is a fully fenced swing made with wheelchair access. It's the most fantastic thing I have ever seen at a playground. It's so good to see children with disabilities being included with a special swing even they can use as well as disabled toilet facilities. They have BBQ's, plenty of seating in the shade of the trees and some more seating under a shelter in the centre of the park. Drinking fountains work! Rubbish bins on site as well. Only minor confusion about this park is that there is a doggy bag dispenser in it, I have seen heaps of people walking through here with dogs and there is a sign at the park itself that says dogs not allowed within 2 metres of playground. Yet when I look up the Council's website it says dogs are prohibited on this Reserve. Then why contradict yourselves with doggy bags and signs??????

Tennis was my Sport de Premiere for many a year, and I even returned from my self imposed retirement for a couple of seasons a few years back. Of all of the community Tennis courts around my area, the Gilbert Street court would be my favourite. Is it a good surface? Nah, not particularly. I mean, it is ok, but there are definately better around. Does it have a bbq, play ground etc.? Nup....it is just a court......but it is a) on its own, b) has its own car park, c) has plenty of shade (huge gum trees) and d) is right on the river. For me this is the perfect community Tennis Court! You don't have to chase balls, worry about other peoples games and those who know where it is (not that many) just drive on rather than wait for you to finish! Not the most kid friendly (they would probably be alright down the river....glug glug) but I don't have kids, so I really don't care!

You even feel like you're playing on a private court. And with the looks you sometimes get from neighbours, perhaps a little like you're sneaking onto one. On the fringe of the golf course it's a tranquil spot with plenty of street parking. In the freak chance someone else is on the court when you arrive, 'plan B' is: head down Jeffcott St. to War Memorial Drive where there are 6 standard courts. There's a water fountain, but last I checked it wasn't working. Near the base is a valve, which if you turned it would probably provide water, remember to turn it off when you're done. Closed during winter weather that risks damaging the playing surface.

On the Reserve there is also the Mellor Tennis club's meeting room, and a Mothers and Babies Association centre and toilet conveniences. This Tennis Club has been operating since 1933! The reserve was once a block of land owned by a fellow called Mister Mellor, so when he donated it to the community, bang, Mellor Park! There are fenced tennis courts and beyond them a large grassed space for playing. Big enough for kicking a football or throwing a frisbee. There is also a small fenced off playground for the younger children to play inside. The park reserve has some old established trees that are probably sixty or seventy years old. Large and well established shade provided by the trees on the cool grass is great. There's lots of shade sails, tables, benches and trees. On a warm summer's morning all of these were greatly appreciated. It's fenced, and there are some creative pieces of play equipment, including a big tyre swing and boat which were both very popular with the smaller members of our party. There are toilets, taps, and even a tennis court, with plenty of parking nearby. It's easy enough for the grown ups to chill out and chat because the kids are so busy enjoying themselves. The only negative is that is can get very busy. On the other hand, it gets busy because it's good, so I hesitate to deduct a star for that. Recommended, especially for the under 8s.

There's a rotunda area that you could set up with table and chairs although there is a table/chair in the sun just outside of the rotunda. There is also a BBQ in that same area. There is a lot of space here so if you brought bikes, they would definitely get some use, although the area is quite hilly so little ones might need to be supervised. The shaded playground is a great set up. There's a lot of different equipment for older children and would suit Primary School aged children. In my view, it's a shame the two playgrounds aren't closer together, at least on the same hill. There are toilets at the beginning of the park...not too far for little children to walk but it is right next to the car park. Bowling Clubs are really Adelaides best kept secrets. Great locations, great function space, fully…read morestocked bars (with ridiculously cheap prices) and colourful characters ready to help out, spin a yarn or just sit around and get sloshed! The Kensington Marryatville Bowling Club certainly has these attributes and more! Sharing their club rooms with the neighboring Tennis Club, the Bowling Club boasts some pretty decent greens a pool table and ample room for a dance floor should the mood take you. They host Night Owls on thursday evenings, which is the prefect opportunity to have a crack at Lawn Bowls, or is an equally good excuse to get together with a couple of mates and get on the turps. The Bowling Club itslef has seen some success of late, being promoted to the Top division in the state this season and has a couple of members who are either in the state team of pushing for selection. BTW, make sure you put your team in early for night owls as they get pretty packed!

I joined…read morethis club as a fill in about three years ago and now am a permanent player there in a Thursday Ladies Doubles comp and also a Monday night mixed comp which fairly new as lights to six courts are a recent addition. The clubrooms are excellent and a mentioned the drink prices are really good! The lawn courts are probably the best ones we play on around various locations around Adelaide. We have load's of fun and usually some pretty good tennis also! They are always looking for new members and have other various comps so check it out.
