Westies!
Half the reason why I am giving B27 a five star review is because I'm feeling rather nostalgic about this place. Therefore perhaps keep that in mind.
The change rooms are old, the canteen is dingy and parking is often inconvenient to say the least- thus dodging main road traffic to get to the pitch is often required. f I'm not even going to begin with the sickening smell coming from the brewery at times! However in hindsight, all these characteristics added to the flavour of things. You well and truly feel part of the West.
When I played for Adelaide Olympic, this was the home ground. Three pitches of perfect soccer glory, and night trainings felt like a scene from Bend It Like Beckham. Of course being fifteen at the time, I'm sure, helped with this analogy... not to mention the cute nineteen-year-old coach from England.
It's not necessary the prettiest ground, yet it truly exhibits an authentic soccer playing environment. I also had a fantastic team, and by fantastic I mean that they were a really nice bunch of girls, some of whom I still keep in touch with. In all, a great team spirit, although I'm not quite sure if the boy's teams were similar in this respect.
Another attribute worth mentioning were the quiz nights, taverna nights and end of season dinners that both parents and players would attend. When you're fifteen and a product of strict parenting, these are the types of things you look forward to. The games themselves were also great for health, fitness and well-being. Not to mention it kept us out of trouble...
Additionally, I have also played games here for High School cups, and man those were some of the best days ever. Especially the year we won, or perhaps it was second place. Regardless I found playing at B27 a significant highlight in my soccer playing "career". Ha.
Pleased be advised that park B27 is now the home ground of the Adelaide Titans. read more
