Very interactive and interesting exhibits. FREE admission will get you into 90% of the actual museum. Variety of exhibits so it has a little something for everybody. The first floor was the Dive In! Aquarium. It had a very nice anemone tank and a variety of other tanks that had sea life. The second floor is the Bug space, and the beginning of the Natural History space. Both are very interactive and have plenty of kid friendly space. The Return of the Gods exhibit (which costs 8 GBP to visit) was on the third floor, but you could also see what I thought was the most interesting part of the museum which was the World Culture exhibit. The exhibits themselves are nice, but this museum has a novel approach to explaining how Liverpool got its items. Comedian Daliso Chaponda was narrating the process of how the museum procured the majority of its items through good ole colonization (kidding, not kidding). He brings to light the appropriation process through comedic discussion, novel and palatable. The 3rd floor also has the Egyptian Exhibit, which is very good. It's probably the jewel of the museum. The history of the pieces are well explained, and the mummies are displayed wonderfully, some in layers, some in narrative, and plenty of interactivity for the little ones. I didn't spend much time on the fourth floor (Dinosaurs) or fifth floor (Planetarium/Space). The fifth floor wasn't as impressive, but gave those genre's some space for those that are interested. It was the meh portions of the museum. If you have a few hours to burn, consider this museum a good choice for kids of all ages and interests. read more

Visited the museum especially to see the current special exhibition on the Chinese terracotta army which was well worth the cost of the tickets. The building contains a large cafe on the ground floor that was well stocked with good quality food and deserts, this area also has access to free Wi-Fi. The next floor has the Aquarium and treasure house theater. The 2nd (3rd in US) floor has the special exhibition and the Bug House. Next floor contains World Cultures, Ancient Egypt and Western Discovery Center (only open weekends & school holidays. 4th floor holds Dinosaurs, Endangered Planet and Clore Natural History Center. Finally the 5th floor holds exhibits on Space and Time along with a Planetarium - tickets needed from the information desk on the ground floor. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and could not be more accommodating, well worth the visit. I should also add the this museum is free except for the special exhibit which needs tickets purchased either online or at the entrance with limited time slots available each day. read more

Variety of exhibits from a space theme on the 4th floor, with a cafe that's got a view next to a sizeable collection of time pieces through the ages. Natural history on the floor below, and a step through Oceania and the Americas on the floor below. There's plenty to keep you occupied in here. Popular with parents & kids, and adults alike. I'd say a couple of the space exhibits have showed the test of time, and have given up the ghost, so perhaps fixing those up would be great. All-in-all you'll probably find you'll be able to do the whole building, so you'll be wanting to revisit at some point. read more

The best thing about the World Museum is that it's free! It makes a fab day out for families, couples, groups of friends - just about anyone really. There are over five floors explore: the aquarium and the Treasure House Theatre; the natural world in the Clore Natural History Centre and Bug House; the human world in the World Cultures gallery and Weston Discovery Centre; the earth with dinosaurs and animals from around the world; and space and time through scientific instruments and the Planetarium. The staff are friendly, enthusiastic & helpful - sometimes a little too much, in that annoying way but they try their best. Make sure you book your ticket on arrival on the ground floor if you want to go to the Planetarium. read more

This museum is excellent in every way and I was very impressed last Monday when I visited for the first time. It's amazing that it's free and there's so much to see and do - you could easily spend a whole day here, with or without a family. There are several floors accessed by stairs or a glass lift and everywhere is clean and beautifully looked after - including the toilets, and there are disabled ones as well. I was particularly interested in the insect collection which was so well done, many interactive displays for everyone, collections from around the world and many live exhibits as well (my favourites were the desert locusts - I could have watched them for hours!) The aquarium was fascinating too. So much thought has been put into all the exhibitions throughout the museum - they are eye-catching and colourful with interesting information boards to read. The top floor cafe near the planetarium is superb with many choices of hot meals and snacks and it's reasonably priced. Good for vegetarians too and there are even some gluten-free snacks! The staff are really friendly and helpful. The two shops downstairs are worth a browse and you can find many a nice gift there. One of the few things that makes me feel good about the world is the idea of museums, in particular the Liverpool World Museum. Whoever thought of constructing this vast behemoth of Grecian architecture, then filling it with dinosaur skeletons, Egyptian mummies, live fish, dead animals, Roman weapons and space rockets, just so the plebs could see it all for free, deserves to have their likeness stuck on a plinth. The transport section may be gone, as well as the idea of scaling the majestic stone staircase just to enter the damn place, but the museum is still a great day out. Much of what I loved from childhood, including the jungle mock-up and the wee tunnel showing the evolution of life on Earth via comfortingly shoddy dioramas, is still here but there's a whole lot more. In the world culture section, glass tanks are filled with items from across the globe, the best of course being those freakish African tribal masks that look like a witch doctor carved your nightmares directly onto wood. Always good for topping up your terror batteries. One downside is the Planetarium. In my memories, this was a room that fired me into the inky blackness of oblivion, then showed me the gorgeous gaseous giants and blazing stars hanging like Odin's lanterns in the heavens. I revisited a while back and found it to be merely a dark room with cheap photographs projected onto the ceiling. It wasn't exactly a space odyssey. Nevertheless, the museum is definitely worth a look-see. It's the only place I've ever seen a real dodo skeleton. Can you say that? Can you? read more

I took my 2 girls here over the summer, they loved it and it was a good few hours out. First of all its free so not an expensive couple of hours out..unless you crazy in the gift shop.There are sooo many exhibitions including the natural world, earth and time and space sections. But the newest attraction there at the minute is the UEFA football exhibition. A must see for any football fan esp since its free. The exhibitons do change regularly so u could go a couple of times a year and still see something new. read more

Thsi was one of these places i always walked past in liverpool but never actually went in so one day i did and for the free admission charge i was very impressed. It has many floors of education and fun to be had by all it also has a small aquarium with many a tropical fish and a couple fo shark, not the type that could eat you though. Also they have visting displays one that caught my eye but i didnt have time to see it was the ancient samurai collection and demostration. Very well funded building with a cafe, gift shop and plenty of things for the kids to ohh and ahh at, well i must admit i was doing some of that too read more

Beautiful building. I have been visiting this museum since I was a toddler and have always enjoyed it. Well looked after and lots to see. I do think that there could be more interactive things for children to do. perhaps more interactive things to do for kids visiting the museum maybe. They could have their imaginations captured and there interest held more if there was more of an interactive feel to some areas. Always loved the planetarium and the areas with very old items are eerie in a good way for kids and adults alike. Well worth a visit every few years. Lifts and stairs which is great. read more

Always a pleasure to visit, I could spend days wandering round museums without a care in the World :) The only thing is that it seems to have been 'dumbed down' a fair bit since the relaunch a year or two back. The Egyptology departme nt for exampl,e is a shadow of its former self with far fewer exhibits oput on public display. Overall, still very much worth the visit (and there's plenty of other Liverpool Museum attractions to see whilst you're here) but I do yearn for the wide-eyed wonder of seeing the huge sarcophagi of my 7 year-old self. read more

From pretty much the age that I could toddle, my father brought me here regularly. A science teacher by trade, he thought it incredibly important that I become aware of the world around me and complex history as early as possible, and several A*s, As, Bs, a first class honours degree and a Masters later, I can't argue either with his ethos or my mother's insistence that I read as soon as I could speak. Museums are important, and all kids should be forced to go at some point. This happens to be a great one. Covering natural and physical sciences, archaeology and ethnology as well as harbouring a Planetarium, a huge Bug House, a six-storey atrium, and a National History Centre, the fact that entrance is free to all this great stuff is mind-boggling. No wonder it changed its name to 'World Museum' as opposed to merely Liverpool. But what do I love most about it? Around the age of about 9, I became fascinated with Ancient Egypt, toying with the idea of becoming an Egyptologist as an adult. Dad being the awesomely educational father that he is ushered me to this museum with aplomb, as its collection regarding this subject is huge. Oh, just try about 15,000 pieces from Sudan and Egypt, making up one of the most important collections of Ancient Egyptian artefacts next to that of the British Museum. Not bad for a little city in the North West, huh? Not even a bomb in 1941's Liverpool Blitz could keep a good museum down, and they began repopulating the Egypt collection meaning that the reopening in 1976 was more than successful. The ethnology collection ranks in the top six in the country, the Natural World exhibits are stunning, the physical science collection incorporating Space and Time exhibits is a must-see for any budding astronomists and physicists and the fossils and dinosaur collections will blow your mind. What more can I say? It has all the usual museum staples - café, gift shop, plenty of brochures and literature, but I seriously urge you to visit. We're lucky to have such an amazing museum in the North West and I'm happy I grew up visiting it. read more

The world museum is a great place for kids and adults alike. They have everything from exhibits on ancient Egypt and fossils of extinct species to tropical fish aquariums and a small planetarium. Exhibits are always changing so even if you've been here before it's worth a second visit. There are also various activities and films for children throughout the year. When I first moved to Liverpool, I used to go in here for the peace and quiet as much as for the attractions. As long as you go on a day when here isn't a school field trip, you're likely to find a calm atmosphere where you can sit and read, write, or draw. There are two cafés inside the museum, one serving hot drinks and snacks, and the other serving meals. There is also an "indoor picnic area," and two gift shops. Museum entry is free, and they are open every day of the year except December 25, 26, and January 1. read more

A wide range of antiquities - and free

What a great day out we had here!! They have got one of the lovely superlambananas in the main entrance, free entrance, 2 cafes, plenty of toilet facilities. I would say if you want to see the planetarium show then make sure you get your tickets early on. Parking is a bit of nightmare, we parked in Queens Square carpark, cost about £6 for 3hours, but free entrance to the museum. The dinosaur and historical part were a bit poor but to be fair the ancient Egypt bit was shut for a refurb. The special exhibitions were good which was the European Cup! Not sure what it is now? There are 5 floors, stairs and lift access. The remains of animals and bugs were good exhibitions. A great free, family day out read more

This is a good museum for everyone as it covers a large range of things. Unfortunately this is also a slight drawback as I find that the museum skims over lots of things, but goes into detail about very little. Apart from this there is still a lot to enjoy there including the aquarium, insect room (with an amazing ant colony where you can watch the worker ants cutting up great big pieces of leaves and carrying them back to the nest across a stretch of open rope) and a planetarium. There are a lot of interactive displays which are especially good for children (or just big kids!). The entrance is free and the planetarium tickets are also free. The museum has a small cafe and shop on the ground flood and another cafe on the top floor. read more

Our kids have been here more than once and enjoy it hugely -- and not just for the great glass lifts which zoom up and down the building! There's an impressive amount of interactive stuff for them to get their hands on, as well as some more traditional displays of dinosaurs etc that will still engage them (though probably not for so long). The planetarium is also a hit, although I'm not too impressed by the Sunshine show for the very youngest viewers -- it seemed a missed opportunity somehow. But overall it's a great place (and it's free!); we'll be back! read more

Contrary to some other reviews I don't like the museum as much now it has been done up! It used to have the most fantastic entrance whereas now I feel you bypass all that and enter almost via a side entrance. The beautiful old building just doesn't seem to be used to its full advantage any more. i know it needed upgrading, but the awe of children as they entered that huge hallway has just disappeared. Another thing that's disappeared is some of the great old exhibits. in the basement there used to be a fantastic collection of old carriages which I used to stare at in wonder but they just seem to have completely disappeared. I'd love to know where they've gone! Still a good place to visit and free, but just a shame that people always feel modernisation is for the best. read more

So many different things to learn in the museum, you can learn about different fish, or you might be more interested in bugs and insects, or maybe Egypt is more your thing, they also have space and others, brilliant place to bring your children for education whilst also having a lot of fun, can spend atleast 1-2 hours inside with a brilliant gift shop and a café. read more

What an outstanding museum with loads to see and do, an experience for all the family regardless of age, just around the side of st Georges hall and town center you dont have to walk for anything nor pay for entering but i always leave a few coffers in the collection box on exit. read more
