Peter Blake David Hockney Roy Lichtenstein Antony Gormley Barbara Hepworth Paula Rego Gilbert and George Jake & Dinos Chapman Sarah Lucas & Picasso Ever since it opened in the late 80s, Tate Liverpool has well and truly stamped it's mark on the city. Housed in an imposing building on the Albert Docks, it looks directly onto the waterfront and has acres of wonderful exhibiting space over several floors. Exhibitions change quarterly and in keeping with the ethos of Tate Modern and Tate Britain, they have shown some of the biggest and most controversial names in contemporary art, sculpture and mixed media. Visitors should note, admission ranges from free to £10 depending on the exhibition and there's a healthy programme of art talks and debates.

We visited the Tate as part of Liverpool's Biennial of Contemporary Art, so most of the exhibits were centred around this and to be completely honest, about 80% of what we saw I thought was complete bobbins. More often than not it was the views of the Mersey from the large windows which overshadowed the artworks. Enjoyment levels for your visit are going to be completely dependent on what they are showing at the time so for that reason, I wouldn't rule out returning (you can't really grumble much at free entry). The top floor was dedicated to a temporary Francis Bacon exhibition for which there was a charge to view. At £13 per person that felt to me like far too much for only one floor of paintings. So the Tate is worth popping in, even if it's to escape the rain; you might discover something that either inspires, or makes you roll your eyes.

You know what's one of the best things about Liverpool? Lots of museums are free to get in, Tate Liverpool included. This modern art gallery is to be found right at the waterside at Albert Dock, and consists of 4 floors plus 1 super fantastic museum shop and café. The regular exhibitions are to be found from floor 1-3 which also are the ones that always are for free; sometimes you will be charged a small amount of money to get to see the temporary exhibition on the 4th floor. I don't think the museum had soooo many interesting pieces, but it's absolutely worth to take a small visit - especially on a rainy day. Or just even to only go into the museum shop and buy yourself some pretty stationery or magazines. This is where i got my best souvenirs!

Situated at the Albert Dock, Tate Liverpool houses the National Collection of modern and contemporary art in the North. It is essentially free, although you do get charged for special exhibitions. Picasso: Peace and Freedom is currently showing till 30th August on the 4th floor of the gallery, charges apply (£10 adults and £8 for concessions). The exhibition is pretty cool and I would recommend a visit if Picasso is your thing (but actually even if you're not that into Picasso, it is interesting how they have done this one). The exhibition includes more than 200 works by Picasso from across the world. Previous exhibitions of Picasso in the UK didn't look at his life in depth in the post-war period, however, this exhibition does. Just like late night shopping, the exhibition is open late every Thursday, Friday and Saturday in August. So there is no excuse to not go. Freebies at the gallery include smaller exhibitions such as Rineke Dijkstra and DLA Piper series: this is sculpture.

The Tate is definitely my favourite art gallery/ museum in Liverpool. I've been a few times but my all-time favourite visit was when the exhibition included extremely famous pieces of art from Andy Warhol, Picasso and Salvador Dali, to name a few.The main exhibition changes every couple of months so you will never tire of visiting. The gallery is situated on the Albert Dock so it's a great place to include into your day out, either as a local or a tourist. There is a restaurant which serves both snacks, sandwiches and hot meals - it also incorporates art into it's decor.

Modern art used to make my blood boil. Obviously, by that I'm referring to those inane pieces of tat that you see winning the Turner Prize. In my mind, if it looks like something I personally could have knocked up in five minutes, it's not art. There's quite a lot of this kind of stuff in the Tate but intermingled with this is artwork that genuinely interests. I remember once they rebuilt an entire supermarket on the top floor. My cynicism died on aisle two, when, in an instant, all the rows of untouchable produce seemed indescribably bizarre. Visions of sixth-form art trips still trickle through my mind when I think of this gallery. Hours we would spend creaking across the floorboards looking for pieces to sketch. If I was in a lazy mood I'd simply choose the ink scribblings that don't look like anything in the first place. They were easy. If you want to see proper masterpieces, I'd visit the Walker. But if you have a craving for something different, the Tate's good for a wander.

The Tate is situated in the heart of the Albert Dock area and could not be more at home in its beautifully grand surroundings. As an art gallery should the Tate looks great and it really delivers on all levels for people of any age although obviously older people will be more appreciative of what is on offer. There should be establishments with as much class as this all over the country and Liverpool should most definitely be proud of the Tate. The gallery is full of art from all over the world and there is a great mix of contemporary art and older art also together hand in hand. This place has enough points of interest to fill most of your day and you will not regret a trip here whether alone or as part of a large group. Even if you are not an art type then this place may just make you a fan.

Tate Liverpool is a beautiful art gallery that exhibits the very best modern and contemporary art. Situated at the Albert Dock, a World Heritage Site, the gallery has magnificent views over the River Mersey and is conveniently located within walking distance of Liverpool's other top attractions. Tate houses the national collection of modern art in the north and is believed to be one of the most visited British galleries outside London. If you're going to be in Liverpool this summer between 21st May and 30th August, it is strongly recommended to visit the Picasso: Peace and Freedom exhibition, especially if you're a fan of art, albeit the works of Picasso. This is a major exhibition bringing together over 150 works by the man himself from across the world.

Having been to many art galleries, museums, art shows, etc, I would consider I've seen many weird things, but as of this past month, there was some WEIRD art there. I didn't get a chance to visit the top two galleries, due to time, so I cannot review those. But, from what I did get to see, I am very happy to have visited with friends and was able to have a laugh. Art is meant to be fun, and yes, sad in some cases. The museum is generally free and located in an incredible location right inside albert dock. You do need to pay a few pounds to visit the top gallery. Worth a visit!!!! Currently they have teamed up with a boat to bring you the Razzle Dazzle ferry, which takes you to Birkenhead, just across the River Mersey. It's 6 quid and about an hour long. An artist has painted it in bright colors, for a special reason! Hope you get a chance to go on that, and learn about some history. It takes you to two stops, and the second is free museum of a german U-boat! Very cool

Modern art gallery in Liverpool's lovely Albert Dock area, part of the Tate family of galleries. Lots of interesting pieces, and best of all it's free (although donations are actively encouraged). There's a good gift shop too selling quirky bits and bobs. Definitely worth a visit!

The gorgeous view through one the windows (Dec.2014)

We are very lucky to have Tate Liverpool up North. I occasionally go to London for exhibitions and the price in Tate Liverpool is only half the ones in London and they are all great. Tate Liverpool is located at great renovation of Liverpool - Albert Docks, and you can have the greatest view from one of its windows. I had read a book about Albert Docks recommended by a friend from Liverpool and really overwhelmed by how this area had been though. It survived during the Second World War's attack and became the magnificent waterfront complex today. Also Tate Liverpool has a great collection of work including Jackson Pollock, Matisse and Picasso etc. Every year, Tate Liverpool introduces quality exhibitions to the visitors besides the great classic collection open all year long. The recent exhibitions include the Chagall: Modern Master Exhibition, which showed more than sixty paintings and works on paper of the Russian artist from across the world for the first time in UK in 15 years. It's not only just ordinary paintings and works but also included the most classic and typical works of the artist. It's such a great scale of works shown in the exhibition and I didn't need to see it by going all the way to London. In summer time 2014, Tate Liverpool had an exhibition for Piet Mondrian, who is one of my favourite artists. I had been to The Hague for visiting his home museum - The Guggenheim Museum. I went to Tate Liverpool for Mondrian exhibition on the opening day of the exhibition. The Mondrian exhibition, however, was from a very unique angle to represent this Dutch artist's works by focus on his studios in Paris, London and New York. It also tried to explore the reason behind the fact that Mondrian transformed from a successful figurative painter to become a pioneer in abstraction. The best part was the recreation of Mondrian's Paris studio, which gave visitor a chance to feel the colour creation and experiment experience during his working process. Another interesting thing was from the gallery window; Mondrian's departure point for America from Liverpool can be seen. Andy Warhol exhibition is systematically introduced this most influential and controversial artists via 100 artworks. Just like Warhol's said himself, his work is not about going into depth but to spread out. (Sorts of). The exhibition shows Warhol's work and achievement spanned the worlds of art, media, music, fashion and celebrity. I had seen quite a bit of Warhol's works before but it's the first time for me to see Warhol's record sleeves' design and I really enjoyed them. Among the most remarkable record sleeves designs, the famous banana design piece was actually for the album of Velvet Underground and Nico. A brief review of the latest three major exhibitions was just to show unique and professional angle of the Tate Liverpool exhibitions.

I sometimes find that walking around a modern gallery can be a bit trying...often the experience is marginally worse with somebody else 'That's rubbish, it is though isn't it' Interesting though 'Yeah but I could have done that, couldn't I?' Well you didn't Fortunately our views are not unique as the short videos made by Mike Figgis to accompany the excellent DLA Piper series on sculpture reveal funny and insightful comments from all sorts of scousers. Even if you're can't make it to this exhibit or the up coming Picasso exhibition in the summer, the Tate has a consistently high standard of pieces all year round. Modern galleries do seem to create an atmosphere in which they seek to challenge their viewers unlike more serene traditional galleries. The bright, garish colours lining the walls of the Piper pieces offer little respite from the mind-bending pieces on display but only when I caught a glimpse past one of Kurt Switters minimalist pieces and the monochrome scene of the grey Mersey lapping at the brown mudflats under the post industrial skyline of Birkenhead that I realised how lucky we are to have such weird and wonderful pieces in this city. 'But I just don't get it...I've got tiles just like that in me kitchen.'

So I turned over the price tag, to find that it cost nearly £800! If you're into your art and you can afford to shell out on one off pieces of fantastic design and craftsmanship, this is definitely the place for you. I came across a pet shop in Blackpool not long ago, Doggy Style....Brilliant!!!!!!!!! We buy any car dot com.....brillliant!!! The list is endless. Whether its simplicity or a clever pun you got to add a bit of umph to your business by naming it appropriately otherwise you've lost the audience before even starting the engine. Now it may seem as if I'm slating this place. I'm not, I'm merely pointing out that as good as intentions or story there might be in naming your art gallery "good taste gallery" it nearly lost me as a possible punter just because the name made me cringe a tiny bit. In the grand scheme of things it didn't put me off too much and I managed to check it out. I'm here to report it is worth a gander after all. There is quite a diverse mix of offerings here really. The gallery exhibits a full range of arts including paintings, glass, ceramics, and local crafts. On sale are numerous other handmade quirky things such as toys cards and clothes. On top of this quirkiness they have a coffee bar and seating area inside and out where a wide range of delicious teas, coffees, fresh fruit juices and tasty snacks are happily served. They also stock some contemporary and classic handmade jewellery made by skilled local and national makers, which I am unable to tell you more about as it did interest me little. I can however for the benefit of those in the jewelery know mention they stock the following to name but a few. Slate Jewelery(clean the slate) Diana Morrison(Morrisons Ad Hammond!!), Paula Bolton(O2 "Bolt on" service), Silver Jewelery (Boring name) Abigail Jacobs(Jacob..twilight saga?? Bottom line is, I like this place, and would recomend you pop in for a coffee and biscuits. Have a snoop around and see if you have good taste or not!! Shazam!!!
