(Am assuming it changes to the appropriate seasonal clothing in the summer) And the Spar grocery store had Tyrells Crisps! Rather than individual store reviews, a round-up of the 3 we patronized: - Leon's was FABULOUS service - Veronika & Chloe gave us a deconstructed fish roll as mum didn't like the wrap. Plus love the water jugs with mint leaves - SPAR was a bit expensive but had end of day deals on sandwiches which were a £1 off - Fresh Food cafe's fries tasted stale (so very ironic with their name!) There were also tons of women's loos in the bathroom, and a bloke was cleaning them. Couple that with lots of parking available too, and so really quite happy we stopped here! But it marks the junction where you turn off the M5 to get to Wales, and I nearly always make a point of stopping here before tackling the M50 if I'm heading that way. It's got all the usual stuff that you would expect, WH Smiths, Costa, etc. I like the open-plan seating area in the centre that caters for all the food stands. As the services are essentially located on the M50 slip road, if you're heading back on to the M5 southbound from here, you have to negotiate a roundabout to get back onto the main motorway.

It is a basic hotel, but its location is right downtown and is very central to most activities. The room provided a comfortable bed, good hanging space and mirrors, a large comfortable bed, TV, but no phones. The Bathroom is large and has a very deep tub/shower. The tub is slippery getting in or out. No wash cloths, and only 1 large bath towel and 1 hand towel for the two of us Free coffee and tea in room as well. The Inn provides a buffet breakfast for extra which we did not try. There are many eating places very close by. We were quite happy with our stay and encountered no problems. Would recommend.

I wasn't quite use to the British toilet and mechanics which was frustrating to me....lol Located downtown near bars, liquors stores, restaurants, shopping centres you name it. Sundays everything closes early. There is a lovely kebab restaurant 2 min walk from the inn if your fighting the late night munchies where the owners are just wonderful and entertaining. The view from my room was just beautiful. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend if they are ever visiting Cheltenham. Oh and the dollar store is right across the street if your looking for emergency toiletries.

Here are my ratings: Location (5 Stars) - Right downtown and an easy walk around High street. Very dog friendly and very nice front desk staff. Bar (5 Stars) - Gorgeous inside bar area, which we saw both from ground level and via the upper catwalk to our room. Service was friendly and engaging. Patio (5 Stars) - Steller outdoor patio on a very nice day. We relaxed with our drinks and never wanted this experience to end. Dinner (5 Stars) - As fine a dining experience as we had during our week in the Cotswolds. We took dinner in a very nice dining room with comfortable seating and excellent meal choices. Breakfast (5 Stars). Breakfast was in the dining room and featured good selection, nice dining room, timely service, strong coffee, good portions, and tasty choices. You can't do much better than that. Accommodation (4 Stars). One thing we found about historic UK Inns is that climbing up the stairs with luggage is required. Yes, they'll help you, but we're starting to get a little old for this. The room was a big small, but we really appreciated having both a bedroom and sitting room, which accommodated our different sleep schedules.

Rooms were roomy and quiet. Breakfast was also excellent. Good bar with lots of sitting space.read more

The downside is that people were much shorter back then. The cramped hallways are tolerable (who spends a lot of time in hallways?), but I could barely stand upright in the room. The bell people were either too small or frail to help us bring our bags up the stairs. There is not a lift. The rooms need refreshing -badly. Everything including the service seemed "tired" - not quaint or charming. The bar service was inconsistent. Sometimes, the drinks were phenomenal and other times they were subpar. The dining experience was lackluster and the food was average. The chef and staff have changed since our last experiences and it shows in every detail. Would seriously reconsider staying here. What a shame, it had such charm and vibrancy that it is now lacking.

The lobby lounge area was very quaint and cozy for tea. We sat on some cushy couches to enjoy. The tea selections were plentiful and several options for the tea food as well. The service was also on point. The food was just ok - one of the finger sandwiches was dry around the edges, so it had clearly been pre-cut and sitting out. The fruit scone was also extremely dry, burnt, crumbled at the touch. Surprising and unfortunate. One of the sweet options on the top rack was stuck to the plate so it exploded as we tried to placate it and we didn't really get to eat it. Food was 3 stars at best but the ambiance was key. To note - there was a 10% service charge auto-added to our bill and parking is free.

However, overall hotel room comfort did not meet expectations. When we checked in, our room was very hot due to the sun coming in the windows. The AC didn't work properly and the front desk was very slow in finding someone to solve the problem. Because we faced the street, it was too noisy to have the windows open at night to get fresh air. The staffs were courteous and kindly checked for availability for us. We then were greeted and seated soon after. The service at Fig was great. The tea selections are great.
