For the Americans reading this, it was in the vein of Macy's or maybe even a step above, like a Dillard's or Nordstrom's. The store was in very nice condition, from the floors to the fixtures and general upkeep of the store. The prices on the clothing were definitely out of my realm, especially once factoring in the exchange rate from the Euro! I was a little bummed that there wasn't anything affordable that I could bring back for myself, especially a brand that you don't see here in the States, but that just wasn't happening. The one section you should check out is the candy and food as those prices seemed far more reasonable for what you were getting. As we still had two countries to go, we opted not to purchase anything here; had Berlin been our final stop, I would have selected some things to take home as souvenirs. Despite spending 20-25 minutes in the store, not a single employee approached or interacted with us in any way, even the severe-looking woman working just a couple tables away from us in the men's clothing section. Guess she knew I wasn't going to buy anything, either!

(1) I assume it is illegal to handle a customer physically without good reason. It is certainly bad business practice. (2) When you wish to question a customer you've stopped at the exit, you should tell the customer where you are taking them, and it should be someplace other than an isolated office in your garage. (3) Once a customer has emptied their pockets and bag, you should not continue to detain them and ask repeatedly where the clothing they left in the changing room has gone. If the customer tells you they do not know, and your security footage shows no incriminating evidence, then it is time to let the customer go. You are allowed to question the customer, not to interrogate them. (On a side note, it is silly that the men's shirts can't be tried on and frustrating that this policy is only stated on small signs in the changing rooms. In any case, most of the men's button-down shirts have too many pockets to be worn in business settings.)

The Europa-Centre is a shopping centre in Berlin, it is a fairly decent size and includes eateries…read moresuch as Vapiano and KFC. It's located directly adjacent to the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church so the location is reasonable. The mall is slightly hard to navigate with very few employees around, and only two lifts, both of which are close to each other but not close enough you can press a button and wait for the next one, the lifts overall are quite slow. The mall does have some nice features such as a market outside, and a nice square where you can sit outside if you ate at Vapiano for example, and a water feature inside. Probably a lack of shops also doesn't do this place any positives, and the number of shops and even places to eat is much smaller than most other shopping malls I've seen around the city, such as the Mall of Berlin. This isn't the best of places to shop, and probably not somewhere one should come out of their way for, it has a new nice water features and an excellent branch of Vapiano and sadly that is about it, also frustratingly the toilets are downstairs (they do have a pretty frightening stair-lift) but of course you have to also pay 50 cents each for this. Due to what I've mentioned, the Europa Centre deserves a two star rating.
