We stayed here and attended our friends wedding on 17/2…read more The sat nav led us a real merry dance to get here but in doing so gave us fantastic views of Calderdale and Halifax (but did ad 25 mins to the journey!). The house is set in a very Typical Halifax setting with stone buildings and a very 'rural feel'. We were given a warm welcome from the Reception staff and allowed to check in 45 mins early which was great as the wedding was at 2pm but so was check-in! Our room, number 8 down the main corridor, was clean, well furnished and suited our needs. (the only downside was we were near the connecting door of the corridor and the noise from the other guests disturbed our dog in the night) We spent a brief initial 15 mins in the bedroom as the pre-ceremony drinks awaited us! The house and grounds are superbly presented with plenty of comfy seating areas, a relaxed atmosphere and plenty to take in. The bar was a little small I thought for the thirsty people there but they coped well enough. The staff ensured the ceremony ran smoothly and of course there was tears! The food sampled in the wedding meal and the following day for breakfast was great. Cooked well and presented hot. The breakfast selection was good, plenty of juice/cereal/fruit and pastries followed by a cooked breakfast. We were delighted to be able to have our dog stay with us at Holdsworth house (£10 charge) and definitely think it's a place we would return to now just to sample the food- take in a leisurely lunch maybe. The staff were really accommodating and friendly. The place was spotless clean, the bed was sooooooo comfy (and huge), plenty of tea and coffee provided on the hospitality tray, toiletries to do us both and just a general all round good feeling. A hidden gem, lovely for a special occasion lunch or a well deserved intimate break.

The rooms were a good size…read more( although the bed could of been bigger :) ) The parking is across the street and the transport links to Manchester and Leeds are really good. TV - This only had 5 basic channels on, so advise to take a laptop with some Dvd's if u wanting a night in. I do feel £54 was a little steep, but i guess if you are going to use the bar/restraunt then it would be worth it.

The setting is very 'olde worlde' oak panelled room, very attentive service by the waiting staff and the food itself was to a very good quality for the money. This venue is most definately on our hit list of regular dining venues now - to pay £10 for three courses, when you can pay almost that for one course in most pubs... well it's staggering. We were even allowed to change the wine into two generous coffees after (as we don't usually drink alcohol when eating a good meal) Highly recommended, particularly for the price, and quality of dining venue.

The outside area appeared unkempt as were the supposedly garden area was,the pavement and patio areas full of weeds between the paving slabs, The food at lunch was atrocious I ordered a rib eye steak sandwich, when it arrived the ( rib eye ) meat was off , it was rancid, it smelled awful , it appears the chef has lost his sense of smell, Would I book this hotel again, no ! I would sooner by food from the local Aldi and a tent from go outdoors and camp on the local field

All the staff are great and very attentive to my plans and needs for the evening. They all were great and we have no complaints what so ever. I would recommend this venue and the hotel. The food and level of service is fantastic and value for money.

This is a tricky one. Years ago this was a smashing, traditional, stone-flagged, multi-roomed pub,…read moreserving great hand-pulled beer. The good news is that the beer is still top quality, albeit pricey (£3.50 a pint), and the roaring open fire was very welcome on a grungy day like today. Sadly though, the interior designers have been hard at work, and turned this place into a somewhat sterile experience with the emphasis more on food (expensive) and coffee than beer. I guess a lot of people will love this restaurpub, but to me it's mock tudor, and not the real thing. It's the sort of pub that foreign tourists go in because the real pubs look a bit too intimidating. The stone flags remain, but the soul has gone. Having said all that, and call me a hypocrite if you want, I'd probably go here again at some point as the beer was good.....but not before I'd been to a few other pubs in the area first.
