I can't believe that it's taken me this long to visit, but after hearing rave reviews from other knitaholics about Albert Park's Wool Baa, I thought it deserved my attention.
This shop is stocked to the rafters with a deceptively large array of quality yarns. It has a sample of all stock on display in the front of the shop and when you tell the shop assistant the yarn and quantity you require, packets of it appear from one of the store rooms. This differs to other wool shops that have all the packets out the front. It is also why the Wool Baa is more visually appealing - it looks like a boutique. Tidy and with colour everywhere!
For me, because I need inspiration before I start a project, the most important thing is that the Wool Baa has the biggest collection of knitting patterns that I have ever seen. I've visited wool shops all over Europe, Asia and the Americas, but no shop comes close to the Wool Baa on pattern selection.
Because I work during the week, it was an added advantage that the Wool Baa is also open on Saturdays and Sundays. I visited on a Sunday and was surprised to see that the shop is designed for customers to actually come in and knit and have their knitting problems solved.
During my visit, 2 customers were knitting at one of the tables and were getting help when they occasionally required it. Surprisingly,as these 2 customers appeared to be there for the long haul, the shop assistant even served them cups of tea at no charge. I was also offered a cup, but I'd already beveraged across the road, so declined.
The Wool Baa is located in the Albert Park village and has a tram stop almost at the front of the shop. For my visit, I had taken my car and found free parking plentiful in the street. read more
