I finally experienced the Woodruff Place Flea Market last week and it was packed! Hundreds of people were walking up and down the blocks of neighborhood streets as neighbors sold items in their front yards. It's a good mix of garage-sale-type items and vendors selling products they've made. There are several food trucks, brewery booths, and more as well. We had a hard time finding food towards the end of it, as many of the spots were sold out, but it was fun nonetheless. read more

Pawing through strangers' junk will always be my favorite pastime, and if you like it too, then you will love the flea market that takes place the first weekend of June in the neighborhood of Woodruff Place. This is an entire neighborhood of houses selling everything you never knew you wanted, from vintage items to toys to furniture to automobile parts to clothing. Usually, Sunday is when people start selling things for half off (or more!), so you can get really good deals on Sundays. But the best selection is on Saturdays. So, you've got hundreds of houses selling stuff all in one walkable area. Then you have food vendors and food trucks selling tasty food and beverage. (I got a pork belly taco from the Love Handle food truck, then a salted caramel donut from General American Donut Company's food truck, then a cider from the Ash & Elm Cider Co. stand. Oh, and you can walk around everywhere with your alcoholic beverage! Awesome.) Then you have music playing from the houses. And people just chilling and talking and enjoying the beautiful day by the neighborhood fountains. It's just a wonderful event, and I love that Woodruff Place puts it on every year. Parking is on the street and all throughout the neighborhood, so just snag a spot when you see one. I didn't have a hard time finding a place to park, but I did get there early. read more

My five star rating of Woodruff Place stands only this time I'm writing out of gratitude for the space Woodruff Place offers for neighbors to stroll and appreciate the fountains and beautiful architecture. On thanksgiving, we found ourselves stuffed and looking for a neighboring area to re-explore and grab some steps. You'll find three main arteries that run through the neighborhood each with an esplanade and historic fountains that are iconic to the neighborhood. One of my favorite parts about the neighborhood is how they rally together for their annual flea market, to preserve the fountains and so on. read more

I look forward to this neighborhood flea every year. Antiques, art, junk, and food trucks! The streets are packed with people and the "hosts" are friendly. It was crowded this year. I think everyone in Indiana showed up! I love to get a close up look at the 1880s architecture and the beautiful fountains in this historic neighborhood. And many of the gardens are so beautiful. At 3:00 on Saturday they host a street dance. Lots of fun. I'd give them five stars if the restrooms were easier to assess and not port a potties. There were not enough hand towels at the wash station. There should be more hand wash stations near the food trucks. Also parking is tough so need to get there early . But I'll be back next year. This is so much more than a flea market! Yes, everyone is selling their unwanted items but there are also food trucks, booze, music, a street dance, and SO MUCH people watching. It's an experience that happens the first weekend of June every year and is not to be missed! This year was so crowded. Fortunately, we were able to walk from our home because it appeared people were parking up to a mile away. There were some paid parking lots closer to the event but they all seemed to be full. I would suggest getting there early to grab a close space. One of my favorite things is admiring at all of the homes. The architecture is amazing and there are so many unique homes over the three streets of Woodruff. Historic fountains remain as well and ties all the charm of this neighborhood together. read more

Woodruff place is a historic area of Indianapolis that consists of three streets. The streets run from Michigan to 10th St. There is no other area in Indianapolis like it. The houses are very old and enormous. Some have been renovated, some are being renovated and some still need to be renovated. At one time they were all homes, but many have been turned into apartments. It's awesome to drive slowly and admire the beautiful homes. Many are Victorian Style. The area was started in 1876. One home recently sold for $299,000.00. It had 5 bedrooms and 5 full baths. The houses aren't the only thing to see. The streets are very narrow and have a median filled with huge fountains that I just can't describe. I did take some pictures for you. If you like planters you will see large gorgeous planters filled with beautiful plants and flowers. Check out my pictures. You will also see lovely statuary. I highly recommend that you go see Woodruff Place. My brother is unable to walk those three streets, but if you are able to walk, that's what I recommend. I have a picture of one house. Woodruff Place Flea Market is a once-a-year shopping experience throughout the Woodruff Place neighborhood. Houses upon houses go all-out in this massive yard/garage-sale style event. Yards are full of everything from clothes, kids' toys, furniture, electronics, home goods, and everything in between. You'll also find a lot of antiques and random finds that you'll never find anywhere else. There's food, drinks, and some times entertainment to bring the event into a full-on experience. Parking can be an issue, but the sellers are usually very understanding and will allow you to stop by at a later time and pick up your purchases. Pro tip: arrive early. Early bird gets the worm! read more

This annual event draws who knows how many bargain shoppers, frugal folk, and people like me who don't need an excuse to drink beer and people watch (although this event always gets me on my feet - my Fitbit thanks you). Split across East, Middle, and West Drive, the flea market is combination yard sale / artisan vendor with a fair amount of food options in the mix. Many local food trucks are present, as is Flat12 and Ash & Elm for the alcoholic fix. Most people take cash or card, and everyone is friendly minus the crazy going on around them. The one suggestion I would make is to close down street traffic on the drives to make it easier for pedestrian traffic, but maybe the walking through yards / over small children is part of the allure that this event provides. Warning: if the weather is nice, it's HOT. Bring a small cooler with your beverages of choice to save a few bucks on refreshments. read more

So, I swung by the Woodruff Place Flea Market yesterday and left sad and depressed that so many homes in the neighborhood are falling into disrepair and look so bad. A friend of mine lived in Woodruff several years ago, and I don't remember the homes looking this way at all. I remembered Woodruff as a wonderful little oasis in the middle of a not-so-friendly part of town with fountains and statues and neighbors walking their dogs and stopping to chat with one another. I remember the homes looking more like the pictures shown here on Yelp, not the boarded up, almost falling down structures that I saw yesterday. Maybe I was having a bad day.. maybe the clouds and rain put me in a funk and I couldn't appreciate the true beauty. I hope so.. otherwise, methinks the property value in Woodruff might be coming down.. read more

This neighborhood makes me very sad. Why do you ask? Well, it's just another lovely neighborhood in Indianapolis that I never knew existed. And it is another reminder that I should have looked around before settling for my ticky-tacky neighborhood. Forget the flea market; I just wanted to spend the weekend walking around and photographing the beautiful, historic homes. Or climb up some of the amazing trees and people watch. There were several houses that I want to live in just for the trees that surround the home. Oh, if only I was a rich lady! I dragged my youngest out to conquer Woodruff Place sales on Sunday this year and, let me say, it was so hot and muggy out that she was ready to jump in the fountain! She's not my shopping partner in crime, so it was hard to convince her to hang tough until we found a place that had several cute dresses her size for $2 each. She then spied a pile of stuff on someone's curb with a FREE sign next to it and scored some black studded boots. We saw a few familiar faces but didn't stick around long enough to melt. First weekend of June every year is always marked in my calendar for this awesome yard sale/street festival. Aside from just the beautiful houses and the appeal of the neighborhood itself, it seems as if 75% off the houses participate-there are so many yard sale tables set up that you simply won't get bored. And I would not be doing you justice if I didn't mention the food trucks and (new as of this year) the beer trucks that come and setup in the middle of the neighborhood. Flat 12 brought a cucumber beer that was amazing & completely refreshing. I recommend this little street market to anyone, just go on Sunday so I can buy all the good stuff Saturday! read more

Woodruff Place - just another great find at woodruff! - Flea Markets Near Me - Indianapolis, Indiana

Before moving to Indy from Chicago, we researched places to live here. One place that came up was Woodruff Place. Not knowing anything about it myself, other than the majestic pictures of the houses online. Realtors never mention that it is situated in the middle of some pretty sketchy areas of Indy. Family members that live in Carmel mentioned it is "Not a place that you would want to live" and in a rough area. We finally settled on our place in the heart of downtown with The Cultural Trail literally at our doorstep. Fast forward and it's a over a year after our move to Indy, and I stumble upon Woodruff Place completely by accident. I turn into the neighborhood and meander through the streets gawking, with my jaw dropped at the magnificent homes. Wraparound porches, esplanades, statuaries and urns. A few more Queen Annes and Grand Dames and I could imagine I am strolling through The Garden District in New Orleans. I would absolutely live here in a heartbeat. I even took a few fliers of the homes for sale, my favorite being the one at 756 Woodruff Pl. Mid. Drive. I would invite friends and family and a few of my fellow Yelpers to sip Sazeracs with us on the front porch. The only caveat is the location, not unlike in 1872, when a buggy ride to downtown Indy from Woodruff Place took almost an hour, the main negative to Woodruff Place is that it is slightly disconnected from downtown Indy. There is a bikepath on Michigan but, it seems we are now officially spoiled by having The Cultural Trail at our front door. read more

What a beautiful, amazing neighborhood- the esplanades, the fountains, the statuary, the old homes, trees, chirping birds...Lockerbie may have been James Whitcomb Riley's muse--but not quite sure how, when there was a neighborhood like Woodruff Place available for perambulating. Every other year the neighborhood hosts a home tour and every year, the Woodruff Place Flea Market draws thousands. A great place to take visitors to the city! read more

Woodruff Place Flea Market is a garage sale meets flea market meets food truck festival with excellent people watching and the chance to find some cool treasures for cheap! I've been going the first weekend in June for nearly 10 years strong. One year I found a basically brand new burton snowboard for $35. Girlfriend always finds cool frames and random home decor for way cheap. New stuff, furniture, clothes, vintage items, some art and locally owned/made venders, and lots of antiques too. There's seriously a treasure to be found for everyone. I genuinely look forward to it every year! read more

Great neighborhood to enjoy walks in. Stately homes line the esplanade streets. Close to downtown. We do not live in Woodruff, but do enjoy some of their annual cultural events and open houses. I also enjoy jogging through their neighborhood as it is very peaceful and has some great architecture. read more
