A truly precious neighborhood festival. This free event is held in Spades Park, just east of downtown (a few minutes walk from Circle City Industrial Complex). It's free to attend and offers several food trucks, beer trucks, a stage with music and lots of local vendors selling items in their individual tents. There were lots of families and people enjoying the music and dancing around. Such a fun atmosphere. The best part is the rows and rows of beautiful, colorful lanterns that are strung throughout the park and vendors. Even some of the neighboring homes put up lanterns on their front porches to join in the fun. There's a countdown around 9pm when they turn all of the lanterns on at once. It was a warm and fuzzy event and I was super happy that we got to attend. We only spent about an hour here (the beer/food lines were really long), so we made our way over to 8th Day Distillery and Centerpoint Brewery, and got to support these other great, local bizs.

I've had this neighborhood festival on my summer bucket list for years. Alas, 2019 was the year to make it happen. First off, I adore the dreamy and whimsical vibes of the lanterns swaying in the breeze throughout Shades Park as well as the neighboring porches being adorned with special lighting decor in celebration of the festival. Fun fact before we dive in: The festival's earliest "incarnations in the late 1800s were of small gatherings and decorated front porches in nearby neighborhoods like Woodruff Place. By 1909 these neighborhood events had morphed in to a single, larger festival that took place in Spades Park." More history on the festival can be found here thanks to Historic Indianapolis: http://historicindianapolis.com/the-feast-of-lanterns-1898/ What to expect: -neighbors and Hoosiers pouring out to soak in the live music, local artisans (at least 30 booths) and at least 15 food and drink trucks featuring local brews, wine, Mexican, Brazilian, pizza, etc. AKA no one will go hungry at this festival -live music with a rotating schedule throughout the day that runs through 10pm -We arrived around 8:30-9PM and that seemed to serve us well with shorter lines and easy-to-find parking -Very impressive work for a neighborhood festival created by volunteers. I know firsthand that this is no easy feat to pull off! Great work!

I think that before attending this neighborhood festival, it's important to have some realistic expectations. When it first started a few years ago, I had these Disney-like expectations and ideas going through my head of everyone lighting a candle-lit floating lantern and letting hundreds of them fly into the air at once. Ya know, celebrating lanterns and stuff. That's far from this event. It's mostly about the vendors and musicians, at least that's the vibe that I get from it. Is it benefiting an organization or a cause? I'm not sure. Hopefully so, but, I've not heard who it benefits so that's probably not a good thing. Maybe make that more known at the actual event? That aside, it's a nice annual summertime festival. The weather is usually always nice, the food truck options are nice, and the vendors are always there to satisfy any hippie-bone in your body. They've got it all: homemade soaps, wooden wands, tapestries, nonprofits/services, etc. It's a nice event, don't get me wrong. But it would be nice to see some more emphasis on the lanterns. Maybe have a create-your-own or design-your-own lantern? Pay $5 and you get to light a lantern and watch it float into the air? I don't know. Some sort of activity centered around the lanterns would be a nice touch.

This is more of a neighborhood festival. They have goods to sell, food and music. Lines are long for food but all and all fun evening if you don't have any plans.

This is a neighborhood festival, and if you go not expecting too much, you will probably enjoy it. The crowd ranges from families to singles. This event is the opportunity to stroll through a few vendor booths; grab some eats at the food trucks; sit down with a beer or wine at the community tables or in your chairs by the stage; listen to the live music; and talk with the friends in your group or the people you meet along the way all with the backdrop of the beautiful colors and twinkling lights of the lanterns. This festival has already grown somewhat since its origin, but I still would like to see more vendor/booths, and I would like to see even more lanterns. This is a 31 acre park, so there's room to hold more.

It's been years since I've been to the Lantern Festival and I've been waiting patiently! Love the community. The food trucks are the best, even better than the fair. Although you can't get elephant ears, you actually get delicious food! I do miss the silent auction!!!!

After hearing so much about the Feast of Lanterns the past few years, I was excited to take a car full of girls and meet up with some friends. The decor was festive and there was enough to keep us busy as we checked out the vendors, live music stage, food trucks and beer garden. The downside was the limited number of 'potties' and long lines. Overall, it was a beautiful night full of smiles.

Hello Feast, finally we meet, and how fine you are. For so long now I've heard of this "just darling, romantic, quaint and unique" glowing festival on the Near East side but had never been around for it. And *poof* here we are: together. And *poof* you bring the Duos truck at just the right time when we're looking for dinner at dusk on a Saturday. Oh my you Duos (I'll save the specifics for another review but Duos... you give Indiana food a beautiful name). Tucked in between bridges and across the street from Brookside library (adorability went through the roof when I turned the corner and saw the festival on one side & the library on the other -- boom: adorable). Parking might seem like an issue but there was ample room on side streets. A mix of fair foods, Duos and Baskin Robbins (here ye, here ye we need a boutique ice cream truck in Indy -- STAT). We sat & lounged & laughed & waited for the lanterns to be lit so we could feast upon there lights, then I realized that we were already feasting upon them before they were lit -- gawking at the glorious lanterns. Then, they lit. And things got a whole lot more cozy. I'm down for this cause of feasting & lanterns & the festival raises awareness for NESCO & that's a glorious cause in itself.

This was a great local event promoting nonprofit organizations and cultural backgrounds of the surrounding neighborhoods. I had food from a place called Duos. Amazing tofu pita with a fresh bean salad with it. The lanterns were an amazing extra touch and added a nice atmosphere. It lost a point for me because of the music. There was a band at the end that took an hr to set up. They were just okay. Overall I would recommend this event. Family event :)

With family in town, we were seeking something that would provide entertainment for all ages. FSMF seemed to have us covered. After checking in with a friend who was already there, we were told there was no food or drinks for the kids, so we packed a cooler and picnic basket and headed out. Parking was easy, the same free lot that I always scope out. We made it over in time to see Kansas Bible Company representing local with each donned in a United States of Indiana shirt. The sound guy made it very uncomfortable to be under the tent to watch the show and pushed many away from the stage with the ear piercing volume that could have been easily managed. No I'm NOT too old - but it was too loud. A friend loaned the grandparents some chairs and we made our way through the crowds to say hello to all. There was a nice selection of local brews from New Day Meadery, Upland and Fountain Square Brewing Company. I saw some little ones running around with face paint, but they had packed up before we got there. The photo booth was a nice all ages addition to the event. Despite the overcast weather, the temps were perfect and the band line up kept the crowd happy. The kids had a blast splashing in the water out front and my teen found an amazing vintage swimsuit at Lux & Ivy who were set up next to United States of Indiana, who sold out of most of their merchandise. I'm sure the FSMF tees would have also sold out if they had been sold. I finally got to see Modoc, a band Elvis Mires has been raving about for ages, and was blown away. Needless to say, they have several new fans in my home. We left before the last band, thanking all responsible for a wonderful day. With this being their inaugural event, I hope the upcoming years may bring some of Ft. Square's best bites such as La Rev (tacos please) or B's Po Boys, or a little Red Lion fish & chips basket, if nothing else some local food trucks. Great job - thank you for a fun Fourth! Last night was the third time I attended Harvest Nights. This was the first time I arrived before it was dark so it was less spooky and a bit more wholesome in the daylight. We arrived at 7 and stayed until about 9 pm to experience everything lit up after dark. When you arrive, you're surrounded by stacks of pumpkins in every size, shape, color and type imaginable. Beautiful Fall arrangements are everywhere you look. The Fungi Forest was something new I haven't seen before. Very cool! I felt a bit like Alice in Wonderland encompassed by giant mushrooms towering above illuminated by strategically placed neon lights. One of the highlights of the event was the Cutwater Lounge--a 21+ space upstairs in the Lily House transformed into "Mischief Manor" only for Harvest Nights. The bartender told me this was the first year having this feature. We had a flight of the Cutwater alcoholic beverages that included a snack mix of tasty treats. The Mule and Espresso Martini were our favs with the margarita coming in 3rd. Cutwater's take on the Lemon Drop (which is a drink I typically enjoy) was strong yet tasted a bit watered down. The adult only experience wasn't very well marked (it's upstairs) and signage in general--starting at the parking lot entrance--needs improvement. I'm not sure we would have known about the adult area had it not been for the nice lady who sold us some yummy sweet potato fries with sage and bourbon maple dip. The Spider Stomp, Ghost Train and light show projected onto the Lily House all add to the overall experience. The seasonal food and drink options are great albeit a bit pricey. Passed on the $12 Bavarian pretzel but had to try Elysian Pumpkin Ale and wanted to try the cider but $14 was a little steep. It's not necessary to spend $20 for premium parking that they pressure you to purchase when you first pull into the lot. I recommend getting there early and wearing some of your best walking shoes.
