We really are…read moreblessed / spoiled over in the south of the city when it comes to parks - there seems to be one every few hundred yards - from large, countryside-equse open spaces like Warley Woods and the Lickeys, to ornate urban parks like Cannon Hill Park. This place is a little of both - the large open space that dominates it provides a lovely respite from the bustle of Harborne, and the gardens that border it are well kept and a legacy of the park's Victorian roots. We don't have many great outdoor spaces in Harborne so its a great place for young children, teenagers and adults too. Its has a great open large space, people come here to play football, tennis (has 2 tennis courts), basketball (has a basketball court). Has a playground area for young children. Very popular with dog walkers, joggers and cyclists. Ive been here day and night and never had any trouble, the gardens are well kept and very pretty in every season. There is 2 car parks available on site which is free, space available for disabled vehicles too. A great little park!

I assumed, wrongly, that it would be full of youths swigging beer and being a bit lairy. How wrong i was!!I will atone for my judgmental attitude by telling you all how lovely it is. The park is nestled behind The Grosvenor Centre in which you can park, although there is plenty of free parking on the other side of the park on Heath Road. There are loads of grassy areas, some of which are left unmown at the moment making it perfect for dogs who like to frolick in long grass (like ours does!). There is a tennis court, outdoor exercise equipment, a childrens play area and a really beautiful area with tables and chairs - perfect for meeting up with friends and eating a picnic. The Grosvenor Centre, as already stated, has an entrance off the park so you cn nip in for all manner of goodies - there is a butcher, WH Smith, Wilkinsons, Greggs, Rymans, many clothes shops and other places such as a Sally's (brilliant for hair stuffs) and Iceland. Ive bisisted twice now, once on a saturday morning when it was not so busy and just now on a sunny Sunday afternoon when there was a kids football team having a game, many families playing with their kids and various dog walkers yet it didnt seem crowded at all. I believe that you can also walk from the park right over to Bournville village via a network of other small parks - i havent done this walk yet myself but some friends frequently do it and profess the beauty of the area. All in all a top park - highly recommended! next time i go i will take some photos and add them on here as its a shame there arent any already :)

This is a hidden surprise, tucked behind Northfield Shopping Centre. There are tennis courts,…read moremulti-use games area and children's play area, plus lots of open space. A local kids football team also use the grass pitch to train at the weekend. It's perfect for taking the kids to play on those sunny days or escaping for a change of scenery in your lunch hour as it's just a stone's throw from the high street. I'm sure there are lots of people who don't even know it's there as it can be a little hard to find, especially from the town centre. There's an entrance halfway down Church Road (with parking) or you can walk through Northfield Shopping Centre and go through the exit next to The Fragrance Shop. There are other entrances on the other roads that surround the park.

Beautiful surrounding, come with kids to feed the wild life duckies in the large pond. Big area to ride your bike too with a number of facilities to park your bike. Kids can also have fun on the pay area too, with swings and a large climb rack. On my daily walks to the park I've even found wild black berries and bamboo being grown in the woodland area. There's a Cadbury Bournville house that has been derelict for quite a few years now, for such a great location I've always hoped that the council would invest money in this great location and maybe convert it into a little café? Bourneville Park is a small but well-designed and maintained park that has the added bonus of having a stream running through it. There is a kids play area that my son loves and we're often here as it's just a short walk from our house. I rarely let my dogs off the lead in this park as it seems to be a popular park for kids, and so whilst there are no signs saying otherwise, I tend to respect the general feel of the place. That said, it's a good place to walk them round on the lead.

There are lots of trees and it has a large stream snaking through it too, which I used to splash around in as a kid! It is great for cycling through and also for walking your dog or taking your kids here to play. It can get quite busy here in the summer, as you can imagine everyone wants to chill out and sunbathe and enough the nice weather. Occasionally an ice-cream van will pull up near the entrance of the park, which is ideal on sunny days. I think it is a really beautiful park and I would recommend it if you want somewhere to sit and forget city life!

As soon as you come in, theres a huge park for kids which is actually great fun for the big kids too ;) take my advice for it! And as you go deeper into the park, you realise what an incredible sigh of relief this park is as it gives you a break from the busy, industrial city ; instead offering you serenity and beauty. You wouldn't even think it's in Birmingham! Rolling hills, towering trees and a blanket of green surrounding you; each area is beautiful. Even if you do get drenched by the rain like I did, it's definitely worth it! A must for those seeking an escape!

I've…read morealways thought that Birmingham is well stocked with good public parks, and it seems that there are even more that I had no idea about. Cotteridge Park is really quiet for an urban park. Considering the fact that it's close to the Pershore Road, there is little by way of traffic noise. It's a great park: really spacious, with tree-lined paths, a car park, a kids' play area, some big open spaces, a skate ramp and some tennis and a basketball court! Who knew?! The only noise that I could hear (other than kids on their way home from school) was the bells from the carillon in Bournville. How very quaint and pleasant :) A train did rattle by while I was there, but other than that it was relative peace and quiet. 'Relative' due to the fact that it was home time from school so there were plenty of kids running around. Which is good. That is what parks are for. I've decided that I now want to live on Franklin Road (the road that backs onto the park)...

They also provide a miniature skating area and an abundant play area that consists of many arenas such as a climbing frame, rock climbing facilities, conventional playground swings and much much more! They have also assembled park like pieces of art such as their wick hut that satisfies both children and people of my age! It is definitely a place to be hanging out in the summer and is easy to gain access to as its location is situated between both train stations, Kings Norton and Bournville. Even for a nice little stroll, the area is very tranquil and peaceful.

I like Kings Heath park, it's got a lot going for it. First…read moreoff, it's a like a park of two halfs, oh and it's massive. It's like maybe two, three or even four parks in one. You've got the footpath that leads all the way around the park, which is popular with walkers, joggers and cyclists. This path will lead you from one of the three entrances right down to where the park edges alongside the trainline. How many miles this walkway is I don't know, but it's a good walk to take it all in. The path snakes in around the parks water feature which is really quite beautiful and is popular with ducks. There is also a tea room, tennis courts, a bowling green, basketball hoops, and two childrens playgrounds. This is a supreme park with large open grass spaces to boot. Kings Heath park is a great asset to the south of Birmingham and has a great deal to offer visitors.

However, because it is right next to the Lickey Hills, it gets overshadowed by the grandness and vibrancy of the forests, lakes and fruit bushes of the Hills. Unfortunately, Cofton Park seems very bare when compared to the Lickeys, even though the openness, hills and views from the park are beautiful. Many people use this park to exercise, walk the dog or go for a casually stroll, and the freshness of the air is great to inhale in after a hard, long day in the Birmingham city centre smog. And what's great is that Cofton is only a 40 minute bus ride on the X62 from Birmingham's Town Hall. It doesn't take that long to get to at all; so if you want to have a relaxing day to experience some countryside, Cofton is definitely the place to go to. There's also a playground area for children, so you don't have to worry about them getting bored. Although I have to say, Lickeys is by far better to experience, and it's only over the road from Cofton.

Only a short drive from where I live lies this park and it is a vast and dramatic space, perfect for walking the dog. 135 acres of fields and trees to be exact. I've heard that Sutton Park is quite big, but that is the other side of the city to where I live. That is why I like to bring the car down here for the day. Just to remember what it was like to live in the countryside in Devon. There are no problems with the park, it is just a vast open space to wonder. I like to come here to forget about all the noise and confusion that goes on daily in the big city.
