Luckily, the decor didn't "trick" us, and Bar Paradox is indeed a cool place to hang out. Their drinks (and only drinks) menu is immense, and I mean, +70 pages immense! They got it all (they even serve hot drinks like mulled wine and hot Hugos), but what caught my attention was their dedication/commitment to gin. From that book, 12 pages were just about their ~20 types of gin and G&Ts. I tried their Balearic G&T (Larios 12 gin from Spain, Thomas Henry tonic, juniper berries, lemon and orange zests) and sampled "The Botanist" Scottish gin, and I was in gin delight. Prices were average (although there was a 12-for-the-price-of-11 Kölsch special), and service was ok. Combined with the laidback environment, Paradox is my kind of bar.

It took us a while to find it (it wasn't on yelp at the time), but they did have a Facebook page with a map. Inside is cozy and definitely reminiscent of a bar that you would find beside the beach in the Caribbean, meaning it's also a bit tacky. I didn't hear much German being spoken in here, mostly Spanish, which is a good indicator to me of its authenticity. But the real reason to go is the cocktails and to chat with the guy who is their creator. I ordered first a drink with ginger, coconut and lime, then one with strawberry and basil. These were arguably the best cocktails I've had in Deutschland, with fresh ingredients, great recipes, and generous amounts of booze. We were even given a new cocktail that the master mixer was working on which was incredibly good but also set me over and told me it was bedtime. The two downsides to such great drinks is that you're likely to overindulge and they do take quite some time to make. So be patient! It's worth the wait. The opening hours are not posted on the door, but this place kind of seemed like it opens and closes when the time is right.
