I've always thought that the Belgians, the Dutch and the Swiss made the best chocolate…read more Not so. Not Now. I love Leysieffer. I love Leysieffer. I love Leysieffer. Chocolate bars rock here! Although Leysieffer bars ain't no Lindt, SPRÜNGLI, Teuscher, Godiva wannabee. Nope. Leysieffer bars are possibly the most original, differently well crafted chocolate bars I've had. How did I discover this place? German friends bringing these treats to LA. Leysieffer has been around since 1909. It is the primo source for classic German chocolate. Leysieffer is uber amazing chocolate in a different way and they take chocolate to another level. If you like bold flavors and bold chocolate up to 90% dark cocoa, unencumbered, come here. After you've had a bite you know there is a notable palate awakening quality that Leysieffer imparts to your chocoholic sensibilities. But wait that's not all, my favorite and amazing chocolate bars at Leysieffer are paired with things like Cardamom, Early Grey, Elderberry so good and unique. Fassbender & Rausch down the street is also really good chocolaterie but I find their products to be more museum type stuff, the flavors at Leysieffer however, are better evolved and crafted for the serious chocoholic. My favorites chocolate bars here are (check out the pix): Earl Grey (not available when I visited) Rosa Pfeffer (Pink pepper studded in chocolate) Meersala (coarse salt in medium and dark) Lavender Ginger Cardamom Elderberry Grapes Wasabi (half dark choc) White Chocolate with Chili (chile not chili powder) There are many other varieties of chocolate made here. This is some amazingly good chocolate, the ingredients time tested and flavors are invented here. On top of that, there are pralines, truffles, marzipan chocolates, all these can be ordered online, except for the freshly baked cakes and counter sweets. Leysieffer has 3 locations in Berlin and also the 6th Floor Food emporium at Kadawe (amazing, super amazing collection). The location on Friedrichstraße 68, is about 3 blocks from the Stadmitte U-bahn stop is also a cafe so can purchase a light lunch, cakes and coffee with chocolate. Soo fun an experience to come to a cafe and have chocolate from the source right there. I was here every other day. Berliners love their fine chocolate and Leysieffer rocks it! Hopefully you'll get to try it out when you make it to Berlin. ORDER Online: You can order online at http://leysieffer.de/englisch/home.html Tip: Their chocolate bars run anywhere from $5-$6 and SOOOOOOOO worth it. Service at the cafe or any eatery in Berlin is not like in the states. American Yelpers complain about service. I think this is true for all kinds of restos and cafes in Berlin . Waiters don't come to you every 5 minutes like in America. Berliners like to stay and sit for hours during a meal and when you're ready to order or for the check, wave at your waiter. Visits: 3 and 2 in Kadawe (Department Store).

What a magnificant find!…read more This place is a "must visit" on any chocolate tour and while I suggest it be your last stop, that is only because I think you should keep this for the crowning glory and keep the chocolate out of the heat and sun if possible. This shop does not make its own chocolate. Rather, this shop gathers together all the different types of chocolate from all over the world. With everything from Anedei to Domori to other exotic chocolates, this is the place to go if you want to find quality chocolate. They have everything from inexpensive to very expensive but it is all top quality. This shop is quite a walk from the nearest underground subway stop of Oranienburger Str. but by quite a walk I mean 5 minutes past some of the best looking shops. There was even a kosher bakery on my journey. Upon arriving there were already two women who I had seen wander in to the shop ahead of me. I soaked up the chocolate heaven while they were served and the brilliant women running the shop that day helped me by bean, acidity and region, finding me the perfect bars of chocolate. For someone like me who is passionate about chocolate to say you MUST go here, you know that this, above all else, is a shop you must go to for chocolate in Berlin.

My girlfriend (chocolate lover) showed me this shop, and I much prefer it to the larger tourist…read moretraps. Though quite small (and pricey), they have a wide assortment from all over the world. Both times the woman working there (owner, I assume) graciously shared her knowledge and experience to help choose. This is the place for an extra special chocolate or for gifts.
