Tuesday, March 2026: I attended the Wisconsin Club for a women's luncheon that was held in their ballroom. I am always amazed when I visit the club because it's so beautiful! The wood carvings, the wallpaper, lamps, statues, and other decor really bring me back in time. The food for the luncheon was delicious; I had a garden salad to start and chicken with mushroom ravioli for my main entree. The bartenders at the luncheon were also very friendly. Shoutout to Mikey! Until recently, I'd never been in the Wisconsin Club or really paid attention to it, but I recently attended an alumni lecture event there. As one would expect, the building itself is stunning. Others have written volumes, literally, about the architectural detail and storied history of the landmark. I will leave you to read those accounts since I'm not an expert. For an event venue, this was very nice. We were directed by signs to the event room, which felt a little impersonal, but effective. After climbing the stairs we found ourselves in a ballroom. There were catering tables at one end with hot and cold appetizers. They were all okay, but nothing extraordinary. My favorite were the cheese curds. The dessert table had a good variety of cookies and brownies. Again, this was basic catering fare, nothing great. They also offered soft drinks, coffee and water. I noticed people carrying glasses of wine and wandered off to find a bar. I struggled to find a person on the ground floor, but eventually a woman directed me to the bar on the ground floor. I was told there's another in the basement. They had a fairly impressive selection of bourbon and whiskies and the like. I ordered two good, but pretty overpriced Manhattans. Although the bar was empty, except one other customer, the bartender was a little slow. All said this is a stunning venue and I'd certainly attend other events held here. read more

Oh What A Night! The Versiti Vampire Ball ... a festive event to celebrate All Hallows Eve. The 360° photo booth surrounded by thick fog was a hit! The dancefloor was spotlighted in a bright red hue. A variety of hors d'oeuvres. The wait staff is pleasant. There were two silent auctions. The screens featured mini bios of beneficiaries from blood donations and institute research. read more

I've been to the Wisconsin Club a few times now and it never disappoints. The service is impeccable and the food is absolutely divine. Tonight I ordered the rack of lamb and it was so tender that it practically fell right off the bone. It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The lobster bisque and butternut squash soup are both amazing. If you're looking for something creamy and more autumn-y I'd go with the butternut squash soup. It's pretty hearty and comforting. The lobster bisque is a bit lighter but still so savory. Pretty much every time I've dined here crème brûlée has been on the dessert menu. I finally ordered it tonight and it was probably the best crime brûlée I've ever had. The custard was smooth and creamy. I also included a photo of the panna cotta that I ordered last time and it was also pretty delicious. If you're sensitive to weird textures, the panna cotta definitely isn't for you. Panna cotta has a similar texture to jello, but it's a lot denser and heavier. When it comes to drinks, they can pretty much make you anything. I had both an Espresso Martini and a Cosmopolitan. Other people in my party ordered cocktails such as Moscow Mules, Old Fashioneds, and Dirty Shirleys. Overall, I'd recommend dining at the Wisconsin Club if you ever get the chance. Had our wedding here and family belongs here but love it. For our wedding they did an outstanding job. I did not have to lift a finger. I could not have asked for anything better. It was perfect. A quite unique place in Wisconsin that will make you feel like traveling in time. I was lucky to have a social event happening here, as I enjoyed it very much. The history that its decoration and details tell is something else. The food served at the event was fine, but the bar was disappointing. I ordered an Old Fashioned and it tasted like soda. The event I attended was very well organized, and the service provided by servers was excellent. My favorite part? Visiting the ladies room! It's so elegant and with plenty of space to sit down and touch up your makeup. I'm looking forward to being back at the Wisconsin Club. read more

Nothing short of amazing. This isn't my first time here, although I don't exactly frequent either. At one time I lived near Milwaukee, however now it's its roughly two hours one way - but what an incredible place. The staff simply does not fall short anywhere. They treat you as if you are Mr Mitchell himself. Mikey the bartender is a great guy. We had a private dinner in our own personal room. Very charming. The food was outstanding. Perfectly cooked steaks. Insanely good deserts. The mansion itself is a sight to behold. Beautiful woodwork and detail through out. A must do /must see. read more

The Wisconsin Club's menu and the food are just amazing. They have two locations. The downtown location is excellent for fine dining. We leave the car at the club and take the club's shuttle's to local events. They drop off and pick up from every where. It's a great place for dining entertainment. The cuisine is simply a class above the rest of the private clubs in town. The only other club, which is probably as good is the Milwaukee country club, on Rangeline Rd. I hadn't been to the Wisconsin Club in a few decades, so when Marquette hosted an alumni and student speed networking event as part of its new Homecoming celebration I jumped at the chance to return. It was every bit as glorious as I remembered. Right there in downtown is a hidden, gated oasis of Old-world craftsmanship and charm. Gracious staffers help you find your location inside the lavishly furnished mansion featuring ornate woodwork and beautiful antiques. Our event was held in the ballroom, and true to form, folks could mix and mingle in the salon outside the ballroom pre and post event while servers circulated with appetizers. Oh that ballroom. It's so stunningly beautiful. You have to see it to appreciate it. Oh my gosh. I'm so glad Marquette chose this location to host the event. It was fun, in and of itself. But at the Wisconsin Club? This Club used to be the old Mitchell Mansion and is has been completely restored. This mansion has a unique architecture and it is just beautiful. There are many rooms for meetings for club members I suppose, plenty of seating areas and a grand ballroom on the second floor. The club was beautifully decorated for the holiday season with many Christmas trees all around. Non members can rent out the Club for special occasions such as weddings! read more

Alexander Mitchell's 1859 mansion is a must see for visitors and residents alike, it is breathtaking in its beauty and elegance. A reminder of the origins and persistence of American social class stratification, it's currently the home of the elite Wisconsin Club, an urban country club as it were. I couldn't tell you about the social and athletic club aspects of the place as that's well out of my league, but as an event site this is somewhat incomparable because of the historic elegance. The in house event staff from servers to chefs and planners seem to be the best in the business, If you can afford it and you want to impress your business guests, family, social network for a medium to large social event or meeting, I would put this site up at the top of your check-it-out list. Oh what a night! The Wisconsin Club is a beautiful and a snazzy place to enjoy dinner, drinks, and good conversation. Located in the middle of Milwaukee and just east of 43, the club is all about the seen and be seen. Guarded by a black wrought iron gate, the nostalgic grandeur of the mansion is impressive at first sight. My wife and I joined friends one evening this year. The entrance to the club is adorned in gorgeous woodwork, elegant stairway banisters, classic artwork, and ornate trimmings. It was Christmas and extra special to see the establishment full of lights, trees, and green trimmings. After seated at a large round table, the service began with wine flights, divine soups like butternut squash and a classic salad. The entrees arrived and each person at the table was served simultaneously by a personal server in unison. A special touch! The pianist serenaded the diners with the works of classic rat pack sounds and even took requests from the crowd. The chef even visited our table to ensure our satisfaction. A great first impression! It was a beautiful night well choreographed from entrance to exit. Memories made and hopefully future memories in the future. read more

Not exceptionally impressed. If I was rating the place itself for what it is and I overlook the food and service I suppose it would be a 4 just for what the building is. Let's dive right in to the missed opportunities. Since the fifth star is earned via exceptional service and product it was not an option here. Service throughout the course of the evening went from slightly above average down to average. Once the food was being served things were going ok with timing but the gap of time from when i received my salad and my steak was a bit too long. Since this was an event I would expect this to be a bit better. The soup and salad were good. The steak was a bit of a mystery. It was cooked to a medium/medium rare but wasn't juicy. I was expecting a bit of steak juice on my plate yet none was to be found. The other criticism I would have is they either weren't seasoned or they were under seasoned. I am one that usually doesn't season too much when i cook and instead let the focal point be the ingredients. I found this to be disappointing. The cut was good as was the coloring but that's as far as it goes. I was surprised and a bit disappointed. Perhaps I have been spoiled by places that seem to get this better? When dessert was served all waitstaff seemingly disappeared for the rest of the event which is problematic. Need more coffee, water, or another cocktail? No dice. Especially odd because my dining partner could have used more water at the beginning of dessert and didn't start because she was hoping to quench her thirst before starting. She never did get that water. I can see where people who don't normally frequent these types of places would be easily swept away by it all. Put on your suit and feel like a fancy pants all evening. The problem is that the core components of service and the main course wound up lacking. On a positive note I thought the soup was well executed. I personally enjoyed the decor for the most part though it did feel a bit outdated. I know I know "historical blah blah blah" but seriously rethink some of that wall paper. I am sorry to say that if you are looking for a place to go for a nice meal there may be better options. My steak dinner at Jackson was far superior for example. Also my recent steak endeavor at The Noble was superior. Just some food for thought. I am sure I'll be back and I will update this accordingly should there be any notable improvements, declines or change. read more

In the last year I've attended a few banquets with the Wisconsin Chapter of Risk Managers. We had recently had a luncheon at the Wisconsin Club-City Club. This was my first time here. We were greeted by the black (Wrought Iron?) gate out front that opens as you pull in. After parking which proved to be a breeze on this Wednesday we headed into the building through the rear where the valet attendant is. There was a coat room where a cheerful older gal was happy to take your coat. After heading there I stopped in the mens room which offered complimentary Scope mouth wash, how nice. Everything was spick and span so far. After sitting down our guest speaker started us out and we enjoyed a very delightful lunch, some rolls with Garden Salad which was perfect. Then on to a Italian Style dish with Spinach, maybe Mosticholi? Followed by some decadent desserts. This meeting ran about 2.5 hours and the servers were very hospitable. Very professional environment, I could definitely see a meeting here, again. What is really compelling me to give it 5 stars is the fact that this beautiful property is in downtown Milwaukee, what a beautiful city and how they've preserved this place that was built in the 1870's. read more

The Wisconsin Club was perfection! The venue is absolutely beautiful, from the ballroom, to the balcony, to the dressing rooms, and even the bathrooms. You and your guests will feel so special in this space! There is even an outdoor gazebo and fountain outside that makes for great photos! We worked with an event coordinator, Kris, who works for the Club. She was so amazing. She was so helpful in the months and days leading up to the wedding, as well as making sure the wedding day itself ran smoothly. She was always prompt to respond to my countless e-mails and questions. She was great at coordinating with all the vendors we hired. The food. Oh the food. You won't be disappointed! You have to use their catering and alcohol, which we found to be reasonably priced. They did allow us to bring in our own dessert and late night snacks for a small fee. They did a great job of plating the desserts onto a beautiful dessert table arrangement. The ballroom comes with so many things included, which will really save you $$. Chairs, tables, tableclothes, napkins, siilverware, glassware, tea lights and candle holders, cocktail tables, and table numbers. It was so great to not have to run out and buy these things before the wedding. They were also very helpful for setting up the decorations that we brought in for the tables. The venue offers shuttles and valet parking for a reasonable cost, which will make the day much easier for your guests. The shuttles will drive your guests to and from hotels in the downtown area. You will also get a private shuttle for bride and groom at the end of the night. A driver will take you for a drive along the lakefront before dropping you off at your hotel for the night. So romantic! You also get to be a member of the Wisconsin Club for an entire year, which is a fun perk. We enjoy going there after work for happy hours :) read more

We hosted our reception at the Wisconsin Club in September 2009. Kris Frye and the rest of the Wisconsin Club team did an amazing job and we truly couldn't have asked for more out of a reception venue and coordinator. We were able to work closely with the head chef at the Wisconsin Club in order to create a custom menu of appetizers and entrees that were perfect for our event. We got rave reviews on the menu and many people told us that it was the best meal they had at a wedding. The location of the Wisconsin Club is beautiful and a picturesque setting for a wedding. We hosted our reception there after they had updated the yard and balcony. Our guests enjoyed being on the balcony and enjoying drinks during the cocktail hour and reception. I can't begin to say enough about Kris Frye. I don't think that our wedding would have been so perfect without her. She helped in all of the details from the major decisions to the minor items. The food was excellent. We had a very terrifying experience there, however. I noticed when we parked that it was in a bad area and there was a gate open by the parking lot. When we left, the back parking lot had very little light and a sketchy man was waking slowly through the cars and noticed us. I was holding a baby and pushing a stroller so I would have been an easy target. We started walking back to the club and he proceeded to follow us up onto the club patio. I banged on the patio doors and got let in, luckily, but it could have been much worse. For such a nice club in a bad part of town, there absolutely needs to be better lighting and security measures for the parking lot. Please install this and close your gates. I will not be returning, despite the delicious food, until I know that changes have been made. read more

I have been to this club a few times now and this is the first time I was a yelp member. Unfortunately the service was extremely slow and some of out food was undercooked. We arrived at 6:00pm with a party of 10 and didn't leave until around 10:00pm. The food was great but the extreme length of the visit was enough to drive 1/2 the party crazy. My husband and I just joined the WI. Club...I've always wanted to join, when, as a child, I spent time with my aunt there. My father's work place had a Christmas party for FAMILIES there each yr. The children always received wonderful gifts and were called up to the stage to receive them! We all loved it. We just went to the Millionaire Quartet show, which included a beautiful dinner with drinks and canopes before hand. The drinks, appetizers and dinner were all they could be and more. It was well attended. Elvis, Johnny and Jerry Lee from the cast of the play performed for a full 2-21/2 hrs. with no breaks. We danced every dance, just COULDN'T SIT DOWN...thank you Wisconsin Club..so glad we joined!!!! read more

Went to the WC about a week and a half ago. The venue itself is absolutely stunning. I learned that it was once home to General Mitchell! (Aka general Mitchell airport). Because this is a "club" you have to be a member to eat there, I could be wrong but I think I'm right. There are no prices on the menu. The Wisconsin Club is an awesome place for a meal, a drink or just to admire the beautiful old mansion. The formal dining rooms are just that-formal but Alexanders the sports bar in the basement is fantastic for a more casual experience. It has the feel of a classic gentleman's library or den with dark wood work and a lounge feel. TV's to watch the game, free arcade games and excellent food and drinks and good service. I'm currently in the process of planning a wedding at The Wisconsin Club and I am not a fan of Caroline Kafura. She is one of the catering directors and has not made setting up a tasting easy by any means. First of all tastings can only be done on Wed, Fri and Sat at 1 or 5 p.m. or Tues and Thurs at 1 p.m. So if you have a real job which you likely do if you're reading this because otherwise how could you afford anything at this place, you'll likely NOT be able to make Tues, Wed, Thrs, or Fri at 1 p.m. That leaves Wed, Fri & Sat at 5 p.m. But wait! Most Saturdays are booked with events so your options are a Wed or Fri night at 5 p.m. Don't forget to bring your wallet to this tasting as well because even though you're likely to spend over $20K at this place on your "special day", they still charge you for your tasting. read more

My husband and I had our wedding reception at the Wisconsin Club in June, and we would recommend it to anyone getting married in Milwaukee. SERVICE: Kris Frye was my fairy godmother and if you're looking to collaborate with someone who cares about your day as much as you, then pick Kris. She asks all the right questions, thinks of everything a first time bride wouldn't know to think of, openly communicates with you, and LISTENS to what you want. She goes out of her way to make sure that she is working towards fulfilling the bride's vision of the day. Kris has the right mix of confidence and humility--she is direct enough to keep a rowdy group of guys and some distracted girls on schedule, but humble enough that she never makes the bride feel like the day is about anything other than her. Kris is evidently passionate about her work and she'll be invested in your day, not just her job. As an example of Kris's accommodations, she coordinated for shuttles to pick up my guests before and after the reception from a hotel near the airport. I was extremely worried about out-of-town guests making the trek from the hotel to the Club, but Summerfest rates had forced us further away from the city than I had wanted. Kris heard my concern and worked with her staff to find a solution that put my heart at ease and made transportation soooo easy for everyone. SPACE: The space at the Wisconsin Club is impressive--whether you're talking about the big stuff (ie. the Grand Ballroom) or the smaller spaces (the ornate staircase, the beautiful sitting room of stained glass, the powder room). The ornate and beautiful decor complements the grandeur of a once-in-a-lifetime wedding day without ever overpowering the reception or guests. We had a reception of close to 190 people in the Grand Ballroom and it couldn't have worked out better. Seating was comfortable and we didn't have to move a single chair to accommodate for lots of dancing on the great floor. Drinks were served in the side foyer and not once did it feel crowded (this was in large part because the bartenders did a great job making sure guests didn't have to wait for drinks). The D.J. played from the stage and the guests that needed to rest or get some fresh air were able to step out on the balcony or go to one of the comfortable sitting rooms. Everyone could find a place to be comfortable, and as a bride this came as a great relief. FOOD: A delicious step above your average wedding fare, guests offered many complements about the food. To my surprise, the stuffed shells were a huge hit. Only about 12 guests went with the vegetarian option, but nearly every one of them told me that they were the best stuffed shells they'd had. My personal favorite was the parmesan crusted halibut, but those that had the chicken picatta enjoyed it as well. As someone who didn't think she liked creme bruhle, I couldn't wait for them to bring it out to guests. It was delicious! DRINK: You pay for what you drink at the Wisconsin Club. I don't think it gets more fair than that. Guests never had to wait around for a drink and I received a lot of feedback about how refreshing this was. OVERALL VALUE: Let's just say that I think my guests think I paid A LOT more than I did. When it all breaks down, I don't think I saw another venue that even came close to offering a package as good as the Wisconsin Club's. Don't let it's stately reputation prevent you from crunching the numbers. I almost did, and boy would I have missed out. read more
