Once inside I took a quick look at all the tools available for rent (lawn mowers, sanders, paint supplies, even a kitchen aid mixer) and I quickly made a trek to the back of the library to the seed collection. The tool library is providing free seeds for gardening and the selection is enormous. I grabbed several tomato varieties, peppers, herbs, and a handful of wildflowers. Everything is free but there is a suggested limit of 10 packets per person. I'm excited to start gardening and very grateful for this program!

I just happened to be there as the owner was subbing for a cashier, and as we were talking, it was so apparent that they love what they do - their energy and enthusiasm for serving Chicago exuded from them and made me excited to be there too. Since most people don't have the space or money to afford their own tools and equipment everytime they need something done, this is an essential resource in any city, and one that I frequent. You can go in person to pick out what you want, but I would suggest going online first the reserve what you need. Once all your items are available, you get an email notification, and you can just go out and pick your items up. You also get a week to return everything, but if you have circumstances that would prevent this, you can let them know and they are more than happy to accommodate an extension. Over a period of man's life he attains those things he both wants and needs…read more There is a reason usually older men own nice expensive tools, fast cars, and large waist lines. Because they've been around long enough to make enough scratch to afford those things. Sadly enough, I haven't been able to accrue the expensive tools, fast cars, and large waist line because of my relatively young age. Oft, I am left to complete side jobs, and projects on my home with out the aid of the best tools money can buy. Wirtz has come through in spades for me on several occasions when this occurs. Scaffolding, concrete cutters, portable generators they have and for a decent price. Recently I had a small side job repairing a damaged fire escape. Unfortunately my trusty Miller CST 280 machine couldn't make the trip. So i rented a portable generator welder from Wirtz. Not bad $80 per day, the only problem I encountered was the stinger on the lead was badly damaged and every once in a while I would get a nice shock, or a bright light show if I set down on the base metal. I told 'em about it and am sure they took care of it. Nice place with decent tool rentals, and courteous desk staff as well Some day I will have that nice portable generator welder,and that nice Porsche 911, and probably a much larger waist line as well, but none of that will be a reality if I don't make some money in the mean time, and when I have need for a special tool, scaffold, etc. Wirtz will be there to help put money in my pocket.

This was the second time I rented large power equipment from BI Rental, and was even a better…read moreexperience than four years ago because when the scissor lift was delivered, the deliveryman helped me determine very quickly that it was absolutely not the right equipment for what I wanted to do, and he immediately took it back and brought out the correct equipment, which was a Niftylift self-drive boom lift. I just had to pay the difference between the two rentals, and the bucket boom was fantastic, and allowed me to safely and easily do a lot of tree trimming and repair work that would have been incredibly dangerous with a ladder or on the roof. The delivery cost was more than reasonable and saved me a large amount of time. After the deliveryman spent ten minutes running me through the operation, it took me about twenty minutes on my own to get comfortable with the equipment. It more than paid for itself by saving me either hospital and insurance costs, or funerary expenses on my family's part. Just as with last time, the staff at BI Rental are all about efficiency and making sure the customer gets the greatest value out of their rental.

Jaime taught it well and I was able to answer 75-85% percent of the questions on the written test from the lecture presentation alone! On the practical "in-the-saddle" instruction/exam Jaime was able to communicate knowledge while I was "hands on" to help me gain a good understanding of safe operations of forklifts. My next step was to contact sellers and feel them out for who's honest and is ultimately going to give me the best deal on a quality forklift. After calling and visiting 10 different sellers, varying from Craigslist tweakers to independent sellers to wholesale distributors, I luckily happened upon Jason with Atlas Toyota. Jason, who apparently has been in the industry for over 25 years, is awesome on the phone: not pushy or overbearing in the least, just very upfront and honest. I headed over to his facility to see some forklifts and was immediately beyond impressed. They have a huge operation including a full staff of mechanics and a massive inventory of forklifts, including every size and option one could ask for. Jason spoke to me, not as a novice, but almost as a buddy, who was looking out for my best interest. Sure enough, his pricing beat almost every place I visited (with the exception of the too-good-to-be-true pricing....a.k.a. sketchy) and the service he performed on the forklift was top notch.
