It is a wonderful opportunity to meet new professors and discover new classes. Mr. Morrison, Shay and Mrs. Holmes are very friendly and they have great advice. I started here for my freshman year of college and I cried for the first few days because I didn't know what to expect. I am now a Junior and I love my classes and professors. read more

Winthrop University - This is me hanging out on the campus - Colleges & Universities Near Me - Rock Hill, South Carolina

I graduated from Winthrop University with a degree in web design. I love my time at the University and the staff was all wonderful. The faculty was really knowledgeable and helpful when needed. Overall I had a very wonderful time at the university. To the other yelpers they're having issues with Winthrop listen up. All universities cost thousands of dollars a year unless it is original or city University. All universities have things like cultural events that are required along with graduation. This is not something unique to Winthrop. I attended coastal Carolina University first before transferring to Winthrop and they had a somewhat similar cultural events type program that you had to finish before graduation. The cultural events are not hard to complete before graduation. If you don't slack off and you attend a couple cultural Events each semester it is plenty easy to get enough for graduation. Winthrop is not a community college nor is UNC Charlotte, nor is university of South Carolina, nor is Clemson. Larger universities like Winthrop have these requirements to graduate. It's what allows students to stand out after completing their degree. If you want to go to class and get a degree and that's all, then you should go to a community or tech school. read more

At first this school was great, however it seems to be one thing after the next. As a college who relies heavily on internet access you will not have access most days unless you are off campus. The elevators are constantly broken and professors are a hit or mis. If you choose this school, I would at least do online from your home as internet is a HUGE issue and it seems to just be one thing after the next.... read more

Have been using my email address from Winthrop (alumni here)since 2010. I have previously said that I wanted to keep the email address when that came up and I took care of that. Well out of the blue with no warning I can no longer access this email address and it apparently is no longer active. A decades worth of emails and accounts....gone...without a word. Issues like this is why EVERYBODY transfers out of the school. They did when I was a student and they still do now. Dingy & grimy commuter school, what a joke. read more

Great Library, Dig & West Centers.

Take your money elsewhere. Be warned. It is about $7000 a semester to attend here just for the classes. This does not include room and board or meals. They will try to get you to stay an extra year by forcing four of their own special classes on you that are required to graduate including a Math/Logic class, A Human Experience Class, a Critical Thinking, Reading, and Writing Class, and another class which I forget its title. They also have you do a minimum number of "Cultural Events." Most of the Cultural Events are pretty cool, thank you Boyd for lining up some pretty dcent stuff. However, if you are already a world traveler you may think this is below you as you are already culturally inclined. A few of the teachers are just ok. There are not a lot of online classes to take. Like um, none that I knew of and I looked real hard. Returning to university as a 28 year old you are still looked at as if you just left high school. I always got things in the mail addressed "To the parents of..." Um, hello, I'm paying for this lackluster education. If you transfer in you have to have a 3.75 GPA to get any kind of special recognition at graduation and they do not include your prior GPA from the school you transferred from. Total waste of money. You can learn all you need to in trade or vocational school. They also do not offer a lot of scholarships or aid or employment to help with the cost. You can go to UNCC on out of state tuition for cheaper than instate here. read more

My review is as a visitor. The campus is charming! Lovely trees and well maintained lawns. Buildings need a little sprucing up, but the campus has really grown. I was very impressed with the choral instruction and talent. I wanted to hear more. Students-Only heard one "f" bomb while there which was refreshing. They seemed pleasant and happy. My biggest issue was signage. Google maps saved me on getting there but left me circling like a vulture to find parking. Yes, I was trying to navigate a new campus at night, but the signs were so tiny and not lit that I had no idea where anything was. Enlarge signage and place one at the roundabout. Light it up like a Christmas tree for those of us who aren't familiar with the campus. read more

Great academic and visual and performing arts programs. Not for everyone. If you are not willing to work, this is not the place for you. Even as a working adult, the scheduling classes was not a problem in the evening. Keep in mind, this all depends on what degree program you are in. Education and Visual and Performing Arts programs were not a problem. Some programs work better for the working adult than others. Statements of being bad for working adults is an unfounded and unwarrented genaralization. College has been and always will be what the individual makes it. As far as future employment is concerned, that too is dependent upon how you use your critical thinking skills prior to and post graduation. This is what college teaches you. Winthrop/college in general is not for everyone. You can be successful with or without it. You just have to have the drive and critical thinking to handle your business. read more

Avoid going to this school. So far I feel like I am wasting time and money here. Some of my professors have been outstanding and that is the only thing giving my rating 2 stars. The tuition is extremely expensive for what they have to offer. The required classes are stupid. Human Experience is one of the worst classes I have taken. A poor excuse for a class and the teacher belongs in an elementary school not a college. Also, they require you to attend cultural events. Quite of bit of them actually. I will be transferring because I don't feel like putting up with their dumb requirements. They treat everyone like they are high school students. This school needs a rework and needs to start focusing on preparing students for real life instead of babying them. They also are making it hard to graduate in 4 years. It gets even harder if you are a transfer student or change your major. They don't offer much help for that. The administration is terrible here. Emailing someone for help is like talking to a wall. They never provide clear answers and are quick to direct you to somewhere else. It is very hard to find someone to talk to that can actually help you. No one wants to help with your problems! The campus is nice but once you get off campus things start to suck. Rock Hill isn't very impressive and there isn't much to do. Going up to Charlotte seems pretty popular though. I honestly had a better time attending York Technical College. The classes were better there too. To sum things up: This school is expensive, not in the best location, offers many useless majors and classes, has dumb requirements and is the biggest regret of my educational career. It does have some great professors but this is easily overlooked when compared to the cons. Find a different school to attend. read more
