I was excited I enjoy reading so when I got my card in middle school I was ecstatic. The reference librarian was always beyond helpful. The amount of growth and change that I have witnessed at this library is astonishing. They do great work such as Malden reads which is a group that chooses a book to read for the month or so and then eventually gets together and discusses their opinions on that specific book. Let me tell you I have been to one book discussion but I am making it my business to attend another one. Hearing so many different perspectives on a book that you read really helps build your intellect and open your mind to different ways people interpret things based off of their own ideas. If you are not affiliated with Malden library in any way I highly recommend you do so when you get a chance. It welcoming and warm and the librarians are A1. #read

The Boston Public Library is an institution. It is famous for being the first large, free…read moremunicipal library in the United States, established in 1848. Known as a "palace for the people," it is renowned for its stunning Renaissance Revival architecture, the iconic Bates Hall reading room, and an extensive collection of over 23 million items. My niece loved taking pictures of the outside building as well as the inside areas near the fountain. On certain days and times, you can watch live broadcasts from GBH inside the cafe.

It also has the Courtyard Tea Room (reservations available on Open Table) for traditional afternoon tea on the main level. I was able to peek inside but it was being prepared for a private event. Adjacent to the tea room is the Map Room Lounge for small bites and cocktails. Very cool. Bates Hall was amazing to walk into, but it was full of people studying, so I limited my visit to one end of the hall. In between the older part and the newer part of the library (where most of the books are, and a coffee shop/gift shop as well) is the Norman B. Leventhal Map & Education Center. They currently have a super interesting display called "Declarations: Printing a New Nation" with original copies of the Declaration of Independence in various formats. It was also really interesting to see the display of the maps of Boston over time and how the city changed. A must see if you are in Boston!

Has multiple entrances and they're all directly on the sidewalk pretty much. I like to walk in the entrance all the way to the left once entered if you go to the right, you'll be in the children's area or if you go up the stairs that are directly in front of you, then go through the arches reach out what I believe to be historical big wooden doorways fabulous and you are in the main library this floor also houses the computer section I believe they have 8 or 10 computers. This library is fully staffed on both levels. I usually view 4 to 5 librarians at a time. The library is extremely clean and well organized. There are many different sitting areas which you can enjoy to flip through a book or listen to videos, etc. this is definitely a local library as there is no parking lot that I know of. Next time I am there I will inquire to see if there was one behind the building. I entered from Broadway on all trips so I did not see one. The book selection seems to be fabulous as does tech options.

The hours it's open have improved. I have found that the internet here is fast, faster then mine or a coffee shop wi-fi (and you don't have to buy anything). The seating options are not fancy give you space to work, If I could I would add more power outlets (and put them is better locations) but hey it's an older building. They have children's area down stairs, where the bathroom is. You use the same library card you use at Parlin library. If you go around the time high school lets out, some of the teenagers can be a little loud and rowdy but if it bothers me I have headphones. Also I sit on the on the side of the library farthest from the bank of public computers, which is less busy.

They're so so helpful when speaking with my kids about what to read next, listening to their likes and dislikes and always finding something new for them. The after school programming is also a pleasant plus! My teen enjoys their crafts, and I'm happy it's someplace she can walk to after school for something a little different. For myself, I love their Libby app. It's stocked with so many audiobooks which I read in the car, on walks, and around the house. I'm so grateful for our library - both the building and the programming they offer!

When I was very young we used to gather in a circle in the library and would read to us that would be grades kindergarten through second we used to walk down as groups from my neighborhood just for the readings it was very exciting back then I wish more people read now I pray for future Generations. Glad to know the library is still open and going strong. Also notice the fabulous architecture it hasn't changed in 40 years although it's much much older than that. Many many many things have changed in Chelsea, but I'm very glad to see that the City Hall in public library have stayed the same.

Customer service is five stars from the head librarian!…read more I walked in here one day, new to Chelsea and wanted to see my new library. The librarian immediately greeted me and welcomed me. He asked where I was from, how I got here, what I was looking for, etc. He told me he has been here for 30+ years and can answer about any question. He gave me a "tour" of the library, showing me where the computers, fiction, non-fiction, magazines, and movies were all located. The building itself is a circular shape which makes it odd for storing books. However, he assured me if they don't have it where I can find it, simply ask. They can also get anything from the Boston Public library circulation too, which is very helpful. I came in a second time several weeks later and the librarian greeted me and welcomed me back. The staff make it very easy for you to find what you need. I have not spent a ton of time here but did see people utilizing the computers and reading areas. I think it's a great part of the community--free for all! Check out their facebook too for special programming if you have kids!

I stopped by here just to print something and I was awe struck by the architecture and uniqueness. Also they had some rare non fiction stuff which is what I read mostly. I also noticed it's ADA accessible In some areas. There are chair lifts etc. Check out these pictures,it's like an awesome museum. I cannot believe I've been living and working in this area the past 15 years and never heard about it! There was an activity with magnets set up on the front table to explore. There was a table for coloring, and a table with magnifying glasses and seashells to examine. Towards the back of the library are puzzles, stuffed animals, a mural of sea creatures, and a bunch of other toys. The books are arranged by fiction and nonfiction but they also have sections for specific interests such as "trucks" and "sparkly" where you can quickly select a few books based on your child's interest.
