The beautiful Winter Palace of Prince Eugene is now open on a regular basis to the public. Prince Eugene of Savoy is not only one of the most famous people in Austrian history but also in world history as he led the Austrian armies in defeating the Turks and driving them out of a large part of Europe. His summer palace is the famous Belvedere of Vienna, his country home is the awesome Schloss Hof, and now his winter palace in the inner city is again resplendent in all its glory (....and is a new part of the Belvedere museum complex.)
The restoration work is amazing. The workmanship is top-notch. And going through the rooms you will learn a lot about Prince Eugene. Especially don't miss the room with the gold ceiling. It's like truly dazzling. Prince Eugene may have arrived in Vienna as a penniless albeit ambitious dude but as you can see from his restored main palace ... he def succeeded big-time.
Anyway, this is the newest tourist attraction in Vienna and I can certainly recommend it to a visitor or anyone interested in or wanting to learn more about Austria's illustrious history. read more
