I started because I wanted an out-of-the-ordinary workout and thought it'd be good to learn some self-defense, and I've gotten more than I could have ever thought. Steve is a great professor who follows the traditional Gracie system while also keeping up on the latest techniques used by world champions. He is one of the few (if only) black belt in the Carolinas who is ALWAYS willing to roll with anyone on the mat, which as a student is great to see and be a part of. He also brought in judo black belt Matt Mescan who was a great addition to the team as an instructor and teammate. As a team, we recently won the team trophy at NAGA Charlotte which is the biggest grappling tourney to come through the Carolinas. Also, there's several guys who compete (and win) at the IBJJF level and another several who are dominating MMA events. You will not find a better BJJ program in the Carolinas.

He teaches the children way more than just martial arts; he speaks to them about honesty, respect, school, life, etc. Mr. Dave is really in it for the love of the art and the love to teach this art to the children and adults who attend.
