What's been said in the other reviews is all true, of course. But what I love about this place is the incredibly relaxed atmosphere, the way they completely appreciate the post-work wind down, and lubricate it with generous glasses of wine every time you go. Don't expect to purchase anything in under an hour, but why would you want to? Try it all - there's not a bad bottle in here.

A good selection of wine on the right hand side, some nice pieces of art on the walls, a couple of fridges at the back of the shop, and the mandatory bare plaster walls of all tasteful places in Hamburg. Understated and classic. And then to the wine. All of the bottles are arranged with hand written descriptions, a good selection of most grape varieties, and pricing to suit everyone's requirements. 5EUR bottles through to 20EUR bottles. If you're in need of some sound advice then stroll over to the counter and ask the chap who runs this place. Very friendly, excellent English, and a very good English vocabulary when it comes to wine. There is no snobbery here - whatever you're willing to spend he will give excellent plain sense recommendations. They also have a few other delicacies other than wine; hare paté was one I indulged in recently. If you become a regular visitor you'll also notice there are quite often a few people standing around drinking a bottle and chatting to the chap. This shop isn't just about grabbing your booze and then slumping in front of a DVD. My more romantic side likes to think it's about harking back to the diminishing culture of enjoying the finer things in life and doing it with some style. Everytime I leave this shop I vow to drink more good quality wine. Drop by sometime.

It heralded and celebrated the arrival of the craft beer movement in Germany. After a year or two, though, it scaled down the interesting imports, and the Belgians, and the styles, with more space simply for the sponsor Ratsherrn beers. Now it has been completely redone, moved to a different entrance, and it is a small dark space, with prices I won't pay. This might be a reflection on the craft beer 'movement' in Germany.

Single malts mostly from Scotland but also from France and Japan wait to be discovered. I like that shop and bought several first class whiskys here up to now.

I think it's also much more charming than getting the mags at the train station anyway. Once I bought some cigars as a present for a friend, who told me they were top notch quality - they better be, for Duske & Duske's range isn't exactly cheap, but the helpful and competent assistance was a great bonus, particularly as I had no clue what I should buy.

They don't have the most extensive wine selection but they tend to have good quality and the consultation by the folks working there is usually spot on. I am not the biggest wine connoisseur hence I ask for recommendations. Usually tell them what I'll be eating and ask them to recommend something. To-date they have been off maybe once. They also don't always try to push the most expensive wines on you. I feel that they do tend to have slightly higher prices than I have seen elsewhere but the convenience factor is high for me. Plus the store is set up quite nicely and easily can be checkout out.

The staff member was very knowledgeable about wine and recommended exactly what I wanted: a medium-bodied German red wine. I am pretty informed about wine but not German wines. I know they are famous for their whites, but wanted a red. Wish I had bought more whilst there. Their inventory was quite impressive for the size of the store with all price points represented.

Extremely funny guy who helped me find the perfect bottle of wine. My second time there I met the OTHER owner. Helped me even though he had a private tasting party going on. Awesome wine. The concept works well. The crew all speak English and are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. So far, I've investigated some of the more esoteric of German Craft Beers and the journey has been rewarding. I'd like to see BB extend their opening hours, I often arrive after 2000 to find them closed. I believe that there are plans to do so. Beyond Beer faces a big challenge, they have a very successful, first to market, competitor down the road, and that competitor has the advantage of a huge on-site brew pub and restaurant operation that brings massive footfall. If Beyond Beer hope to survive they have to find a way of getting people through the door. I hope that they succeed!

The range is extensive & no doubt as its fame grows more brewers will be looking to have their products stocked (space could well become an issue then). The one thing that could be tightened up on is labelling of UK & Irish brands as Brew Dog and at least one other were shown as ENG when they should have been SCO & IRL.

Ask for the pricelist or check out online. They stock lot more, than they can show in this small shop. It is amazing. I really buy lots of bottles from them for our bars - and what I really like - they give NO discount - even if you buy for 1000,00 and more Euros!
