The cheeseburger I ordered was OK and cheap for the platter which came with fries, but I could have gotten that cheeseburger anywhere for sure. It's hardly a kitchen it's really just a cheap beer store that serves edible average breakfast, wings, burgers and fries. The name and theme of the place pays homage to the historic Hilldale Athletic Club, a Negro league baseball team that played at a 8,000 seat ball field in Darby in the early 1900's. They have an awesome mural of the team on a wall above one of the coolers. The club won the 1925 Negro League World Series played at the Baker Bowl in Philadelphia and featured three members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Sorry my love for sports and history got to me there!

(This is why we CAN have nice things) The selection of wines and liquors is fairly standard but it seems like there is always something sitting on the shelf that I've never noticed before. The staff is generally courteous if not highly versed in the assorted merits of their stock. I've never waited behind more than 2 people either, which means it's easy to pop in and out while you're running around doing other things. Liquor!

I bought a nice bottle of dry white with the help from the gracious person who worked there, we got three wine glasses and sat outside on the first balmy night of spring in Philly. We were a part of the West Philly vibe as sidewalk people passed us and we enjoyed the delightful bottle while hanging out on a beautiful spring evening. We could have ordered from the bottle shop menu, or bought delightful snacks from the shop. But you know what?
