I'm a frequent customer of one of your stores. Up until last Saturday I actually loved to go to Wine and beyond every week to look at and collect my favourite wines and try other new experiences. However, after witnessing the abysmal treatment of a disabled person by the store management and staff, I wont be back and will be expressing to other shoppers I know, not to either.
On Friday last, I was in one of your stores browsing some product, as I am a regular customer to your stores. Indirectly, located from the happening but could see and hear the goings on. A lady who looked to be in her 50's ? using a walker came in through the front door, with whom appeared to be a male of younger persuasion, her son I believe. there was a young lady staffer in the vestibule who made what seemed like a condescending remark and then and the disabled lady to put her mask on. The lady responded that she was going to sit down and put on momentarily. She stopped just inside the door and proceeded to sit down and put her mask on. Being disabled she had to free her hands from her walker and sit down and place it on her face. There was an exchange between the young staffer and the lady, wherein the lady had mentioned they dont really work but she would abide by the rule.
At this the staffer disappeared and moments later a female manager appeared then another from somewhere else in the store joined seconds later by a male staffer. Basically to take down the disabled lady a notch or two it seemed. We cant have freedom of expression or thought in this world. Right way she accused the lady of calling the young staffer a "bitch" which as i was complete and clearly witnessing, NEVER happened. The staffer along with another up to that point uninvolved staffer who claimed to have "audibly witnessed' the lady call the staffer a bitch, ambled over and reiterated the claim.
An out and out LIE, as I personally witnessed the whole affair and there was no such comment.
PERIOD
It was at that time she was asked to leave, aghast and a but rattled she agreed to leave the store all the while the manager lecturing the lady about her choice of language.
I was in a word, stunned, by what I had just witnessed. A customer walks in, does as shes asked, gets called a liar, without any due process. Then is ejected from the premises.
Being a retired lawyer, this concerned me, I left the premises shortly thereafter and found both the mother and the son outside and entered into a discussion with them. She and he reiterating the scene I had just witnessed.
I would strongly recommend you to find this woman and apologize to her, discharge the liar(s) of your staff and go back to the previously exemplary customer service levels you previously took pride in.
Until you do, I wont be back. Neither it seems will they. read more
