The biggest pro is that they have an ongoing bookstore inside the library that the Friends Of The Library own and they're open on Tuesdays and Saturday mornings. There's also a free book section in the lobby as well. There's some cool monthly book displays as well as self-checkout station, scanner, chairs to sit, computers, clipping seed display and many more. There's also a really nice Children's room. The librarians are really nice people and they're helpful. The library services are exceptional.

The Patriots of Windsor memorial is on the Village Green set just behind Broad Street…read more It's directly across from the library and is easily visible from Broad Street. The statue is a large bronze eagle with outstretched wings, set on a stone base. It bears a rather short inscription, "To The Patriots Of Windsor". It was sculpted by Evelyn Beatrice Longman and was dedicated on November 3, 1929. It's listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Every year in early December the library has a Gingerbread House Festival with approximately 150…read morehouses on display, open to the public. Raffle tickets are sold for the houses and or scenes created as well as other items donated by local stores and businesses. The museum uses this as one of several fund raising events throughout the year. At the close of the event, raffle winners can pick up their items in plenty of time to feature them at home as part of their Christimas seasonal decorations. 2024 is the 14th year of this tradition; it is well worth a perusal as the quality of the displays are exceptional. Stop by and make this an annual Christmas event for you and your family.

I believe this is the only library in all of New England to hold a festival of gingerbread houses. It's one of the largest Gingerbread House Festivals in New England. In addition, they have an impressive permanent bird / natural animal collection as well! I love this historic library for reasons I think make it a special place to visit. You don't have to be from South Windsor to step foot inside to browse valuable treasures. That's one unique library for the community.

Occasionally I'll stop by when I have a book in mind that I'd like to check out. The Bishop's Corner Library is a branch of West Hartford Public Library. This is the smallest of the three libraries in town. Despite being small, there's everything here. A smaller library is so much easier to navigate. The books are well categorized, whether they're biographies, fiction or new releases. They have a quiet study area on the opposite end of the library from where the children's play area is. They have books for every child's interest. There's also computers that are marked by child's age. I stopped by the library for a specific book. It was in the new releases. It's actually a book that was released just a few months ago. And they had it at the library. You can check out with a librarian or at the self checkout. The checkout is very easy to use if you have your library card on hand. I have been going to this library for many years, I will continue to do so for many more.

No drop off for returning books at front of building. Need a shuttlebus to get from main parking lot to front desk. In my opinion, it is the worst library within a 10 mile radius. It's a very nice library portion of an office building. In order to get to the library at MetLife, you can take an escalator from the lobby next to a huge water fountain. Nice staff, some good selections of books, media and many more. There's a lot to offer at this library -- children's room, printing and scanning, museum passes and more.

On this visit I selected a journal and then I checked out the sale books up front. I picked up a hardcover coffee table book about Paris. It immediately made me smile so I knew I just had to have it. Finally I checked out the magazines. The selection is dizzying! I'm so glad Barnes & Noble is still around. It is a lovely place to spend some time, grab a cup of coffee and find some treasures to bring home.

This is the tour of the newly renovated / expanded Wickham Memorial Library in East Hartford, CT…read more Located at Burnside Ave., That building opened in 1940 as a library. That building hadn't been occupied as a library for the last 5+ years. The library had a grand reopening to the public on Monday May 8. This library primarily serves patrons in neighborhoods where there's access to books at this library. As of now, there's no patron access to upstairs at this time but as more volumes will eventually be added to the collection, there will be more books upstairs and I think there will be children's room up in that level in the future. For now, there's a limited selection of materials from every subject, movies and children's books.

For more than a year, the Drummer Boy statue has been AWOL from its old location on the Bloomfield…read moreVillage Green. But I'm happy to say that the statue has been spiffed up, revitalized, and relocated. It's still on the Village Green but moved to a prominent location at the major intersection of Park Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue. The statue was removed as part of "Phase Two" of a Village Green renovation project. The green was revitalized with new benches and walkways, a gorgeous green lawn, and major repairs to the statue which was in a state of disrepair. Some of the work included removing corrosion by blasting, a new metal coating, and replacement of the drum skin. The Drummer Boy's Drum is a significant piece of Bloomfield's history. Known as "the Brown Drum" they were manufactured on Bloomfield's Brown Street by the Brown family -first Benjamin Brown and then his nephew Eli Brown. The Drummer Boy symbolizes a "march toward liberty, justice and equality" by America's early Patriots.
