Murray Valley Beef Producers is like a butcher supermarket. It's pretty big! You will find all sorts of meats and seafood here. You will also find a range of processed items, like sausages, schnitzels, spring rolls, and marinated meats. There is quite a selection of different cuts to choose from depending on the animal. What I was impressed with was the quality of the cuts. In particular the ribs. I was looking for beef ribs for a Brazilian style bbq I was planning for the weekend. This butcher stocked yearling ribs with a good amount of meat on them. Some butchers cut off the belly part just over the ribs; which annoys me as the ribs then not have much meat on them. Well, not here! They are very meaty and really good quality. Best part was they were really well priced as well! Only around $15 for 1.3kg. Schwing! I also bought a pack of pepper Texan style snags which were lovely. Very meaty, not too much fat and really juicy! So, I know that Mount Barker is a little out of the way for most. But, if you have freezer space, I would recommend checking it out and stocking up here. Especially if you like quality very cheap!

The facts are really clear - kangaroos cause a lot of damage out in the remote farmlands where farmers raise sheep and cattle - why? Because they want to dominate the Australian landscape and be available to you rather than have those ugly great critters with hoofs churning up the soil and turning good land into mushy dusty waste. Actually it is a realistic notion that we would be much better off farming Roo meat rather than beef and lamb, but you try telling that to some Cow or Sheep farmer - most of them are happy with the situation they've got. We however do have a choice - we can eat just about anything we want in Australia, and seriously, Roo Meat is great tasting and basically no fat. That's the truth, no fat. So I eat kangaroo, and I love it. If you want it fresh and cut so it doesn't look like anything other than edible meat, Aye Wun Meat is your best stop off for it. You can get meat balls, small thin cuts, marinated cuts and all of it is yummy. It's a family business so you can have a chat with the owners about where their meat comes from and why they have been selling kangaroo for so many years. Do ask, because they're friendly folk and will be happy to chat with you.

Lenard's is a specialist chicken shop with oodles of pre prepared chicken offerings that you can simply put in the oven and then whip up some steamed vegies or salad: Instant healthy dinner; you gotta love that! I haven't had anything bad from here and the variety is unbelievable, who knew you could do so much with chicken? (probably many of you). Anyway, I have quite a few favourites: The chicken enchilada is filled with chicken, obviously, and beans with a mexican sauce. I also like the chicken spring rolls, the chicken Kievs and the Tandoori cutlets. The flavours are authentic and the chicken is always of a good standard quality. They also supply your basic chicken in all forms; whole, minced, breast strips and tenderloins etc,

They have a lot of ready to cook items from sausages, to kievs, to stirfries, crumbed chicken and on the odd occasion, duck. I've tried pretty much everything, and everything is great. It tastes fresh, and is full of flavour. Lenard's chickens are free range, so you know you're getting quality. The staff are good and will usually of the suggestions on how to cook what you have brought.

These guys are the new butchers on the block, Korean style!…read more They only opened earlier this month...they're not a new business, they've just relocated "around the corner" on Glynburn Road. The shop has been refitted and furbished and is sparkling clean. You can see where they work and it's spotless. The brother team are very friendly and provide great service.. I have only tried a small part of their meaty selection, but that has enticed me to come back (I plan another meal tonight!) The marinated pork and beef are delish and when pan fried is deliciously tender and tasty.

Indeed the quality of the meat is great, set to satiate those avarice for those avian. Maybe they mean to suggest you get creative with their prime produce?
