I live out of the country, but am from Michigan originally. I know many people can't understand…read morethe concept of having a colon cleanse, and if you are on the fence, this review is for you. And yes, some of this is TMI, but I am hoping to reach and help others. I recently had an intestinal health issue - my ileocecal valve was inflamed and not functioning properly. I don't always have access to organic foods where I live so I think the accumulation of pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides affected my normal function. I had pain and an overall feeling as if something was stuck. I tried supplements and changing some things in my diet, and those did help. But I knew I needed a colonic. Noone offers this service where I live, so I came to Michigan a couple weeks ago to visit family and booked a colonic with Michelle. First thing to mention is that Michelle offers the closed system - far superior to the open system, which I tried in California in 2012. The open system is like a continuos enema, which isn't bad, but the water and cleanse can't reach to the other side like it does with the closed. And that's exactly what I needed for my problem. Michelle does a way better job at explaining the differences between the two, but all I can say is - I will always go for the closed method. Second thing to mention is I ended up needing two treatments to get through all the sludge and blockages in my descending colon to access the ascending colon. I brought a friend with me (that's a good friend!) and she ended up purchasing a four pack. If I lived near someone that offered colonics, I would go yearly or maybe twice a year. I know people who go regularly and others who only go when they have an issue. When you think about it, it is kind of weird to think about getting your butt cleaned out, but - just don't think about that. Instead, think about all the money, doctor's visits, and pain you could save yourself by having this done. That's the way I look at it. About half-way through the second session the hard plaque-like blockage came out and I immediately felt relief. Now, my digestion is 100% and I am pain-free. There was no pill that I could have taken to cure my issue and it cost me 2 treatments of colon hydrotherapy and 2 hours of my life. If you are someone thinking about this, I encourage you to call Michelle and discuss your questions with her. I really believe in the healing and preventative benefits of this service.

I went back and forth about leaving this review, however, for all Black, LGBTQ+, People of Color,…read moreand pretty much any marginalized group, I want you to stay far away from here. Getting a colonic is already vulnerable, dealing with racist micro aggressions should NOT be a part of the experience. This woman asked me what I did professionally during my colonic, and I told her I run a film organization that prioritizes programming for BIPOC Detroiters and filmmakers. She then asked me were white people allowed, to which I said "yes." She argued that centering BIPOC Detroiters was racist, and if white people did it, there would be an uproar. She also noted that her teenage daughter, who is obviously more self aware than her mother, tells her she is willfully ignorant, and LAUGHED about it. I had to lay there, while impacted feces is being sucked from my colon, and listen to this ignorant white woman joke about racism and discrimination, and make jokes about her own biases and ignorance. Additionally, she wanted me to educate her and teach her why she was "wrong." Extremely stressful, angering, and anxiety inducing. White people, and white people only will be comfortable here. Unless you're gay. Because my friend who also got a colonic from her, said that she also made a lot of comments about queer people and asking invasive questions about gender roles in same sec relationships. STAY AWAY, this is an emotionally unsafe space for BIPOC and queer folks.

I recommend experiencing this place. Never in my life have I done a cold plunge before. I actually…read moresurprised myself. Definitely wouldn't have wanted to be on the titanic that's for sure! I LOVED IT HERE. The locker room, the tub area, the showers were amazing! There is a complimentary hydration station with different aromatic teas and water. And there is also a Sauna. Enough space in the benches to lay down and stretch while other people are in there. There are levels in the sauna as well the higher up you are the hotter it is! I love it all. I went back and fourth from the shower to the tub to the sauna about 5-6 times. At my own pace. There are 4 tubs, Each tub has a different temperature I got 1-4 is "cold, Really cold, Freezing, and FROZEN TUNDRA" is how I'd explain the temperatures I got in the Really cold one. After I was done I felt so energized I don't think my body has ever been that cold like down to my bone marrow lol

For all those who are a fan of a DIY spa day kind of vibe, BASK Detroit is the place to be! If…read moreyou've been to The Schvitz, I have heard many people both while inside the walls of BASK and outside of it asking for me to compare and contrast the two, so I will do so in my review here: - They both offer saunas, but BASK only has one sauna, which is a dry sauna (where workers will come in to pour more water over the rocks, whereas The Schvitz has a separate dry sauna and wet sauna. - BASK has four individually sized cold-plunge tubs and are at 35, 45, 50, and 55 degrees. The Schvitz has one giant pool-sized cold plunge that tends to range from 50-60 degrees depending on the time of day and year. - BASK has an incredibly small footprint - it's the lobby, lockers (men's and women's), then an entire communal space of showers, sauna, and plunge tubs. The Schvitz has a much larger space, complete with two levels, tons of pockets for seating areas and community gathering, a kitchen that can and does serve food, etc. They both contain outdoor patios. BASK has a strict no food and no phone policy. - BASK is very new and modern, with floor to ceiling windows, state-of-the-line showers, amenties, etc., whereas The Schvitz is very "grungy" feeling, given the historical nature of the building and its general wear and tear over the years contributing to that as well. In many ways, BASK and The Schvitz are complete opposites - night and day - but in many ways, they share a lot of similarities too. If you're looking for pure wellness, a more easy/straightforward in and out feel, BASK is probably the way to go. If you're looking to hang out with your friends and go at a more leisure pace, The Schvitz is where I would recommend! But at the end of the day, why not go to both?? Like me! Price point-wise, BASK can start off a little more expensive at $60 per 2 hour session vs. $40 per 4 hour session at The Schvitz, but the price point at BASK can end up becoming cheaper if you go frequently enough as they offer membership options that The Schvitz simply just never has. I don't personally live close enough to BASK to make a membership worth my while, but is definitely something to consider if you do live closer! All in all, I highly recommend you give BASK a try if you're looking to cure some sore muscles, aches and pains, looking to sleep better, etc. There are so many benefits that come with intentional contrast therapy and BASK makes it incredibly accessible to the masses and a very straightforward way to trying it out!

From the moment I stepped inside, I was transported to a world of relaxation and tranquility. The ambiance of the spa is truly enchanting. The soft, soothing music combined with the delightful aroma of essential oils immediately put me at ease. The attention to detail in creating a serene and inviting atmosphere is evident throughout the spa, making it the perfect escape. As for the service, it was nothing short of excellent. The staff at Margot Day Spa is incredibly skilled and attentive. From the warm and friendly reception to the expert therapists, everyone went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and satisfaction. They took the time to understand my specific needs and preferences, tailoring the Indian head massage to perfection. We also were there for a birthday celebration and they made us all feel so special by giving us champagne and being really attentive! The Indian head massage itself was an absolute delight. I felt all the tension and stress melt away as the skilled therapist worked their magic. It was a truly rejuvenating experience, leaving me feeling refreshed and revitalized. One of the only reasons I gave it 4 out of 5 stars was for the facial because my esthetician did not really explain what she was doing in terms of treatment and did not give recommendations on how I can improve my skin. But I still must commend Margot Day Spa for maintaining such high standards of hygiene and cleanliness. The facility was immaculate!

She started by asking me quite a few questions about my daily haircare and goals for the cut and deep conditioning treatment I requested. She listened. After a lovely wash and sit with the conditioner, where I enjoyed the peace of that lovely room, she came back and gave me the perfect haircut. She didn't try to do anything extra; she didn't try to offer me a bunch of product; she listened to my request, and made it happen. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
