This place is a dump. I lived there briefly at the end of 2018 but was just reminded of my experience and felt I needed to warn others. My apartment was ground level and extremely cold and damp, even with the heat running. During my 3 months there I had several issues including the lock on my front door being stripped and the key not working correctly, forcing me to leave for a long trip with my door unlocked, my dishwasher catching on fire due to a plastic piece inside not being installed correctly and melting on the heating element and my bathroom, laundry room, hallway and storage closet filling up with used greywater after an issue with an upstairs tenants plumbing.
Also, about two months after I moved in I was offered a job opportunity that involved relocating to another state so I reached out to the office manager Laurie to review options. She was rude and hostile throughout the process. She told me I would have to be approved to break my lease but couldn't tell me what the approval criteria were. I ended up going through a subleasing process so I started advertising the apartment in which I stated I would pay for the first months rent for a tenant. She found my advertisement and told me I couldn't do that but couldn't actually provide any reason why or any proof of that policy. If I'm on the hook for the full lease anyway who cares? At one point I had secured a possible new tenant and once she was aware of their name she contacted them separately to try to upsell them to a vacant 2 bedroom - after I had done all of the work of taking photos, advertising the apartment, communicating with possible tenants, showing the apartment and apartment complex and explaining the application process. I'm sorry, do you think I work for you??
The whole process from the background check to leasing application to paying rent is manual and has to be done in person. This made it extremely difficult to rent there myself as I had to keep taking off work and even more difficult once I was trying to find a new tenant. Apparently it's still 1985 there. Which I think is about the time this place was last updated.
To top it all off at one point I went into her office to discuss the situation and she made two inappropriate comments - the first was that as an adult I have to understand that sometimes we have to take responsibility for our decisions, including contractual agreements like leases. I had been renting for about 9 years at that point and had never been late on a rent payment and was working through a very extensive subletting process with her and had verbally committed to paying the entirety of the lease if necessary - how that seemed like I was skirting on my adult obligations I don't know. The second comment was that she assumed I was being paid very well if I was willing to move for the new job and therefore should be able to financially cover the lease, almost trying to guilt me into it. Although that was certainly within my financial means, I'm not going to pay double rent out of the goodness of my heart and felt it was perfectly within my rights to ask about a subletting process.
If you have the financial means to do so, I recommend Westview Commons around the corner which is a few hundred extra. I lived there for 3 years without issue. read more
