In 1989 I had the pleasure of directing a movie with her as the narrator. The movie was about the first European settlers in the Port Lincoln area. It was a delight to work with her and accept her generous support when I returned from Adelaide having just been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She was at the airport to collect her son and assisted my wife and I to our car. I have found her writing to be straightforward and to the point as I near the end of her first book, "I am what I am".

My children attend the Steiner Stream at Trinity Gardens School and we have found it to be a…read morewonderful experience for our child and family. We have seen his confidence and his love for learning grow year by year and we put this down to the holistic and nurturing approach to education. Our children are given the opportunity to explore their world through play, making, storytelling, movement and deep immersive learning. We highly recommend the stream and its beautiful community.

This school is big on sustainability, put into practice this means no school bins. This school also prides itself on diversity. Yet the majority of the staff including The Principal , Vice Principal , all the office and the vast majority of teaching staff are women. They do have a male music and a male PE teacher. I pulled my child out of this school last year when I was told that it's the parents job to teach the times tables. Since putting my child into an independent school It's clear she's lacking basic educational skills. It's these basics that are being neglected in favour of promoting social agendas. While some social agendas may be important, this school does not have the balance right. To clarify my child was in mainstream not the Steiner program they run. On the plus side the school does have beautiful grounds and the children that attend are good natured and well mannered.

I've been interested in sculpture for quite some time now, and not too long ago I enrolled in a…read moreshort course at the South Australian Woodcarving Academy to up my skills in working with wood. The Academy is something of a revival of the dying art of woodcarving. The guys who run the place are very experienced and kowledgable, but also possess the patience and consideration to take time with begginners and to carefully pass on their knowledge. A time consuming and laborious process, wood carving is incredibly meditative and surprisingly enjoyable. At first one is introduced to the basic wood carving cuts by copying preprepared bits of wood which look something like cornicing or skirting board. One these basic moves are mastered you move on to a free choice roject, which, under the guidance of the masters, enables you to put into practice you new found skills. A very enjoyable experience, a time at the woodcarving academy is suitable for all ages and all levels of ability.
