I…read morechose the school mainly because of the area, expecting anyway a high standard considering the range of courses. I also visited the building before taking the decision and it seemed fine, at least compared to the numerous 'makeshift' schools existing in London. I was looking for a course with a specific focus on business english, in order to improve the language for work and the professional suite seemed to be a good solution. Unfortunately the level of service, attention, flexibility and organization of the school was really low. - I had no induction about the facilties at school at the beginning of the course - The first day of the course they didn't want me to begin the course because they were not able to see the payment on their account, even if i had sent them the invoice and they previously said it was ok. - they changed the scheduling and the teacher during the course without saying nothing. - they refused to reschedule a couple of lessons i had to miss for work reasons. - the internet connection in the classroom never worked. . the books were really old, so we luckily didn't use them for the lessons, even if you pay 20 pounds on top the course, for the books. On top of that, i have to say that the continuous loughs of the personnel at the reception is not quite embarassing. the overall sensation is of lack of professionalism. The teacher himself was a good teacher, but he doesn't work there anymore. It can be a decent school for teenagers, but definitely inadequate for professionals. I would choose another school.

The place is nice in the kind weather, but seems like such a grey campus for being so close to several nice squares (especially Russell Square). The quad area outside of the main building is a nice place to dodge errant tennis balls being thrown around and take a seat on the green grass. Eat a sandwich if you want to. No one's pressuring you to not eat your sandwich wherever you want to eat it. You can eat your sandwich standing or sitting, no judgement here. Speaking of food, outside SOAS there is a vegetarian krishna food table that gives away lots of food for free every day. You can just stroll on up to it (or the que) and they give you a huge plate of food. Based on every single person telling me they didn't like it, though, I'm staying away from there. To some people, free is free so you might want to try it. The area around the aforementioned Russell Square is my favorite part of Birkbeck rather than the area around the main building. My classes are 3 hours long, so when there is a 20 minute break in the class, we all stroll out into the square and grab some grub at the Russell Square Cafe. It's incredibly peaceful. I like donuts. Birkbeck's main building has a cafe on the ground floor, but the prices aren't so good. So I'd recommend bringing food onto campus (Russell Squ cafe is also a bit pricey). There are many coffee shops leading up to the school. That's another thing, Birkbeck is in the center of London, easily accessible via underground by way of the Russell Square and Goodge Street tube stations. So if you're looking for a centrally located school, LOOK NO FURTHER. Stop looking. I take classes at both London Met and Birkbeck; and everything at Birkbeck is so much nicer. But that's to be expected. #TeamBirkbeck

Fantastic university and obviously I'm saying that because I went here.... however I have also…read moresince attended King's (because everyone needs two degrees and a lot of debt) and came to the conclusion that I was right all along: UCL is pretty splendid. (King's seemed less friendly and far less compact.) Everything's within a fairly small radius right in the centre of London, the union is good, the halls are authentically awful and thereby breed fantastic friendships based on 35 people sharing a single 2m square kitchen for a year. Even as a non-student, hanging out in the quad is a nice place to be. At Christmas they have carols and things and it's all very wintry and beautiful. Number 2 in the world this year or something, so can't be bad.
