The Truro Heights Irving Circle K Big Stop is a good place to stop for a hot meal, gas, snacks, and…read moredrinks, located near the crossroads of Nova Scotia between Halifax (to the south) and Amherst (to the north) and Cape Breton (to the east), conveniently located just off Hwy 102 Exit 13. There are 8 standard fueling pumps and 2 diesel pumps (in the back) with ample parking for autos and trucks around the building. The Circle K convenience store sells snacks, cold drinks, coffee, newspapers, auto supplies, tobacco products, and miscellaneous items and there are washrooms and a driver's lounge on site too. Connected to the convenience store is the Big Stop Restaurant, which is one of several locations at select Irving stations in Atlantic Canada and Eastern Maine. The Big Stop serves up homestyle cooked meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner anytime, similar to Smitty's. The breakfast offerings (most meals $6.29-$13.99 plus HST) include egg platters, omelettes, pancakes, French toast, cereal, home fries (fried or grilled), and breakfast sides. They also offer some breakfast specials which also include tea or coffee. The lunch/dinner offerings (most meals $6.49-$15.99 plus HST) include burgers, hot dogs, wraps, sandwich platters (include fries & slaw), chicken tenders, soups, chowder, salads, fried foods, seafood dinners, comfort dishes (roast turkey, roast beef, chopped steak, mozza chicken, liver & onions, spaghetti with meatballs, lasagna, stir-frys), and fresh baked desserts (pies, cakes). Pepsi fountain pop served here. They also have a Senior Menu (55 & over) with smaller portions priced in the $4.99-$9.88 range. At each table, there is a small peg game board, the same table game also found at Cracker Barrels in the USA. Packaged fresh baked goods and pies are on sale near the register. They had fresh baked breads and butter tarts. I stopped in here during the mid-morning on a typical weekday. The place was not busy with only one waitress working the entire dining room solo. I decided to keep things simple and ordered an ice water and a Vegetable Stir-Fry ($9.59 plus HST) instead of a heavy breakfast. The food arrived in about 15 minutes after ordering. The hot portion of food was just right which had a medley of sautéed vegetables (broccoli, red peppers, green beans, onions) in a sweet teriyaki sauce served over soft rice pilaf. The food tasted pretty good and I was content with the food. The waitress seemed friendly and spoke in a sort of a "robotic tone" to all guests, as I describe it. As soon as I was done with my food, the waitress motioned me up to the register where I settled up on my check and given an after dinner mint. Overall, the standard healthy stir-fry was just what I needed to start my day instead of a big heavy breakfast at the Big Stop. I would stop in again at Big Stop for a dependable meal at a fair price.
