My visit to Dr. MacIntyre was to have staples/stitches removed after a previous surgery but because of how swollen my leg was, I was sent for an ultrasound. Dr. Neil MacIntyre absolutely ROCKS! My first encounter at Tinsley was with Jennifer at the front desk. Jennifer was exceedingly kind and offered to help me with our Tucker who rides alongside me everywhere. I was afraid of how long he'd be alone sitting with the A/C blasting. My concern was that our GMC SUV turns itself off automatically at 45 minutes. I hadn't planned on the extra trip and I simply wanted to get Tucker home and out of the extreme heat! Jennifer was an angel by immediately detecting how stressed out I was and then offering to bring Tucker into her office and she'd care for him while my issues were addressed. I found Jennifer to be so charming, she's one of the first lovely faces you see and is a lovely part of the medical staff at Tinsley Surgical. The radiologist technician Savannah was so efficient, patient, professional, and kind. I'm not as spry as I was years ago; Savannah's calmness made you feel that you didn't need to rush or that I was an inconvenience. Nurse Nina promptly recorded my vitals and gathered my history to put into the computer. We had a very comfortable and sweet conversation about random topics and she showed me her adorable zipper-compression socks which I quickly ordered. Then the highlight of the day...meeting Dr. Tinsley! The kindest, funniest, and most caring of doctors! Dr. Tinsley's late father treated my own father in the 1980s, both are and were exceptional doctors and Wilmington is blessed to have Ellis A. Tinsley, Jr., MD, FACS, FSVS. He will set your mind to rest immediately because you know he is the best of the best. Thank you to the entire Tinsley Vascular Surgical Team, I'm so grateful to be in your care! Sharon Smith

However, the…read moredoctor (Sophia) and technician had the worst bedside manner I've ever encountered from a doctor in my life. The technician asked for me to extend my arm in the air while taking a blood pressure reading. This is not typical or correct. A patient's arm should never be held unsupported up in the air. It should be rested. I said to her " this will surely elevate my blood pressure". Then she stated, "your BP is elevated". you think? The doctor would not listen to my concerns and instead became defensive, sassy, and condescending. I felt dismissed and disrespected throughout the interaction, rather than heard and treated with professionalism and courtesy I would expect from a medical provider.

I have no medical insurance and this makes no difference to them, they are absolutely without a doubt there to do their best to make you better and they are not money driven. I have been diagnosed with Cancer and with no insurance am unable to see a specialist regarding my major illness and I can see their dedication to aid me in making me as comfortable as possible, I've developed many other ailments directly related to this Cancer and they've never turned me away or made me to feel less of a person due to my ability to pay more than the minimal amount. They have been everything to me limited to the scope of their expertise, My Endocrinologist, my Orthopedic and my Counselor as I was forced to live with a broken arm for a year and a half because with no funds I was unable to locate a physician to fix it and no insurance or 60 thousand dollars up front. Pelican Family attempted to locate someone, anyone that would help with no avail, I could see the sadness in their eyes each time they informed me they reached another dead end. I am in need of more cancer treatments by Dr Ghobad Azizi but am unable to pay the costs of this Specialized Physician. No insurance or lots of cash on the day of appointment, no service. He will not even prescribe the required Hormone replacement medication I need to take daily to survive, he is a great Endo, in my opinion one of the best if you have insurance or major cash, By the Grace of God Pelican Family prescribes my daily hormonal medication and it is on the Walmart 4 dollar medication list. I've been to North Carolina Social Services but with no dependants I was denied, I appealed the decision, sat in a board room at a fancy table in a cushy chair with 3 people listening to my story as I sobbed and consumed a whole box of kleenex wiping the tears away. My appeal was denied and I walked away still with the Cancer and the broken arm, no solution or direction to any other resources given by the ones who made the decision for me to go home and suffer yet even longer with no end in sight. I applied for Obamacare and once again denied, no dependants and I was born here, an American Citizen who's worked since I was 15 years old, never looked nor never asked for a handout. Nowhere left to turn except my only solace, Dr Armitage, Carrie Waters and Cassie. Without Pelican Family Medicine all these years I surely wouldn't be here to write this review. May God Bless all of you, thank you for what you do for me and for all who fall within the poverty category, without you we would have no dignity, no medical care and more than likely be deceased. Pelican Family Medicine and all it's Staff is one of kind, if you are seeking a Family Practice I strongly suggest them, you will never regret it, I certainly haven't. Sincerely, Dominique Wolfe

If you never want to feel like a number or dollar sign, his practice is the right one for you. He strives to learn who his patients are as people. He LISTENS and BELIEVES his patients, showing kindness and compassion in his responses. If I'm anxious or nervous, he'll tell an awful Dad Joke to put me more at ease. He never rushes me when I am trying to describe what is bothering me. Even if I don't have the right words to explain my concerns, he asks great questions because it's clear he wants to help me feel better. He is like a medical detective who wants to solve the case, yet no matter how small the case may be, it seems important to him. Unlike some doctors I saw in my younger years, Doc G has never made me feel stupid for not immediately understanding a medical explanation, not even with a narrowed glance or subtle body language. Instead, he has always found ways to help me grasp the situation and solutions. He has never dismissed any of my symptoms out of hand or acted as if I might be imagining or over-exaggerating something. Instead, he has explained why I might be feeling each symptoms and why a concern might be worth investigating further. If a symptom hasn't deserved my concern, he has strived to take away my fear. He has even listened to my weekend messages when I felt sick and returned my calls promptly. (What other GP does that? I try not to abuse this unusual trait, because such a fantastic doc deserves some time off!) The nurses and front office can make or break how I feel about seeing a specific doctor, so I appreciate that Doc G's staff has always been wonderful. It's especially nice that his amazing wife and sister-in-law work in in the office, as it has always made me feel that "Family Medicine" applies beyond just his patients! If you hate the traffic and stoplights to get to any other doctor's office on or off of 17, it's icing on the cake that Magnolia Family Medicine is on Shipyard instead. Yet it would be worth the trip to me even if his office was perched on the roof of the hospital.

First let me say I am not in the habit of giving someone a less than excellent or above average…read morereview. My review concerns Dr Gustin and his very unprofessional office staff from Magnolia medicine. I moved to Wilmington North Carolina from NJ two years ago and I had to seek out a doctor. I'm a retired man with a number of health issues. I need quarterly blood test, chest x-ray (I was a smoker) a colonoscopy, a breathing test, A1C test for diabetes, High blood pressure, high cholesterol all of which my Dr. in New Jersey would schedule regularly. My experience with Dr Gustin his incompetent staff has been so bad that I been driving and flying back to New Jersey to have a professional doctor(s) check my heart, my lungs, my breathing, my blood pressure, my diabetes all of which have been completely ignored by this doctor. Let me continue. I found his staff to be incredibly rude and misleading. I explained to the doctor that I needed to see a specialist and HIS STAFF told I cannot do it on my own without they're or his recommendation. That is a lie! I called my insurance company and they said I'm allowed to see any doctor I want with my plan. His staff was aware of the insurance that I am using which is a PPO (one of the best) as I can see any doctor in and out of the network. I might have to pay a 25 or $50 co-pay which was not a problem. I'm not broke. As it turns out I went to Quest from a recommendation from my doctor up North. I was covered by insurance, and it didn't cost me a dime. I received the results the next day. One concern I have to address, there have been a few moments where I doubted his expertise as Dr Gustin took a blood test after I explained to him I just ate lunch, he told me it was OK to eat before the blood test? Basically, his medical direction with me was just refilling all the prescriptions my doctor up north gave me. He never taken into consideration it may be alternative medical treatments on the market or some of these prescriptions I might not no longer need. Here was the last straw, I called Dr Gustin's office and was told would have to schedule an appointment for a blood test and that would be at least a week. I told him I can't wait a week as medication I was on cost almost $1000 a month I wanted to see if it was working before I had to spend another thousand dollars. I told by his staff , (very angrily), we just can't you just squeeze you in or never recommended another facility I could get my blood taken in they said no and they hung up on me.! You're not gonna believe this, a few days later I received a certified letter telling me they would not treat me anymore and to find another doctor. You can't make this stuff up They are completely incompetent, unprofessional and the doctor will lose patience unknowingly. When were sick, we seek out a doctor as we don't feel good and need their compassion and expertise in a time of desperate need . My brother is a doctor up north and he said to me you have to feel empathy and compassion for a person who is scared and very vulnerable and uncertain of their outcomes. As a patient we may seem to be irritable and pesty but please don't ever shut the door in a patient's face. Dr Gustin is an very nice man but I really feel I needed someone as to my medical needs. The good news is I found an excellent local Doctor who has scheduled me with various professional specialist. I'm really lucky I went to her as I just found a small nogel on my lungs.

The facility itself is clean, well-kept, and professional. That might sound like a small thing, but after being sent to other places in the past, it makes a big difference walking into somewhere that actually feels like a proper medical office instead of something run down or questionable. I saw Dr. Sunil Aurora, and he was excellent. Very professional, thorough, and--most importantly--he took the time to clearly explain how the procedure works and what to expect going forward. No rushing, no talking over your head--just straight, understandable information. Right now, we're waiting on confirmation from the VA to approve coverage for four treatments, so that's the next step. But based on this first visit, I feel comfortable and confident moving forward with them. If the treatment side matches the first impression, this is going to be a solid place for care.
