They throw open the doors, put out the magic trunks of goodies, and voila! It's your high school theater closet in all it's glory-- all for SALE! It was so much fun to rifle though all the vintage clothing that is so rarely seen in Alaska. They have some LEGIT stuff that I haven't seen in EONS... fabrics and patterns that I wore in the 70's and 80's... it was mind blowing. They even had stuff from the 50's and 60's. Super cool stuff, all reasonably priced. I wish Anchorage had a shop like this.

Folks donate junk they don't want, we show up and buy it. Charities benefit. If they've over priced, we decide how badly we want it and factor in that all proceeds benefit a cause. This store is really well organized with a huge variety of junk. Prices are great, especially for clothes. They have a massive dvd and book collection. Even a nice selection of Alaska based writings. Take care, remember it's donated stuff other people didn't want. Sometimes that means damaged or in need of repair. Buy accordingly. I know it's for a cause, but there are times when it's fun to dicker, especially when something's broke and so are we! I've bought cool shot glasses, growlers, tools and OSU Buckeye dolls. The only negative part about the store is it is for profit and does not benefit the needy. But in a sense it does because clothing is SO Expensive in Alaska, it really is a blessing to find a place like this. They were excited to report they got the bikes for a killer deal ($20 each) at a really cool thrift shop in Big Lake. Sara's Place has to be the spot they were talking about. It's located right along the main drag in Big Lake and it's chockful of interesting things to look at, inside and out, for both men and women. They accept donated items as well as consignment items. I got some nice vintage plates and the woman at the counter generously cut me a sweet deal.
