As you walk this five mile stretch of real grass the pain will leave. The wind will blow your hair and the sun warms you. Toxic waste comes out as fresh air goes down. As you sit on a bench that is dedicated to a man that accomplished so much, your time slips away. Walk your pups or kids together. It's the "time," that's important to others. Sit under a real tree. How long has that tree been here. At this particular park play a game or go for a swim . It's a great time to always go out and de-stress. Surround yourself with positive energy and get rid of the negativity. Life is too short and love should exist in your heart. Purge the negative and replace it with the beauty of nature.

The Mustache Dache 5k is fittingly held during the month of November with proceeds going towards…read moreprostrate cancer. The race was held at Sunset Park on a sunny Saturday morning. The Mustache Dache is one of the better organized races I've participated in - the lines were short, they had t-shirts in my size, and all I had to do was give them my last name before being handed my registration packet. Hooray for efficiency! This 5k race also tries to spice things up a bit: a mechanical bull, a DJ set up, a photo booth complete with props, and a mustache station were on hand for runners to enjoy. The course was an easy flat run on the paved trails at the park. There were tons of volunteers steering runners in the right direction, as well as appropriate signage. The race was timed and all runners got a snazzy finisher's medal. I bought a Livingsocial voucher for the Mustache Dache for $35 (included a shirt, registration, and medal). It was available on Groupon as well. Costumes are encouraged! There's contests for best costume, group costume, and best mustache. I went as a lumberjack. ;) YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2015: #265

I have no clue how long…read morethis run has been around (3-4 years?), but with Lyft recently opening here (and doing a partnership promo!) and No-Shave November going on, this run is well-timed and popular! Plus, funds raised go to Zero Cancer, a group specifically focused on mens cancers. Run was well-organized, including an on-time start, QR codes for packet pickup, a clearly marked course, and lots of friendly staff. Sunset Park has been the setting for a few lesser-organized 5Ks, and the improvements with this version were much appreciated. Finishers medal doubles as a bottle opener and the participate shirts are actually cute enough to wear in public. Staff were helpful and friendly, atmosphere was fun, race was timed despite the low price. TIP: Check Groupon for discounted participation packages. This was one of the cheaper fun runs, with last-minute pricing topping out at $35, but saving a few bucks is always pretty cool.

PROS: + Gorgeous views for all runs!…read more+ Options for half marathon, 10K, or 5K distance + Professional timing (Fusion) and photos (Endurance) + Stylish tee and snazzy finishers medal + Light breakfast at finish line (bagels, trail mix, bananas) CONS - Vague directions, no posted signage: next time, even just a logo sign with an arrow indicating which exit to take and how far down to go to the meeting point would be appreciated. Even going just one exit too far takes you all the way to Arizona. - Parking was a disaster with one person pointing where to turn in to a field with gravel and shrubs but no one directing cars to actual rows/spaces. Hopefully no one got a flat. - Considering the price of the race itself was ($45) I was annoyed to also have to pay $10 entry fee to the park, cash only (but they did mention this ahead of time). - Disliked how the course started with an immediate incline, and ended with us facing directly into the sun (downside to an out-and-back route). Not ideal for the finish-line photos, either. Despite the drawbacks (mostly related to the location), I would participate in this event again. Hopefully some of these simple organization strategies could be implemented to make it a more enjoyable time for all. As a personal pet peeve, I would do away with allowing strollers on the run. I saw two fanatical stroller parents almost mowing people down, and others having to stop repeatedly forcing traffic to go around them.
