Horrible service for scheduling appointments. Disrespectful and rude. Many other better offices.

It is extremely hard to get follow-up appointments. During the treatment my daughter had 1 breaker fall off it took 3 weeks to get her in to fix it. They will also make a big fuss when one bracket falls off, which is something that happens from time to time. If you are not ready to work on their schedule find a different doctor. In some cases you can only do a 8:00 am or 4:00 pm appointment, dont ask for 2:30 pm a month or 2 away because they will denny it. read more

We went to Dr. Yao initially for braces and following up after that with Invisalign for fine tuning. The results were great after her braces were removed, but Dr. Yao gave us the option to get things as close to perfect as possible with Invisalign. No high pressure sales tactics - just presented an option to get things even better than could be achieved with braces alone. He's an admitted perfectionist. Our daughter just got her senior portraits back and we were so impressed with her teeth, so great results! We had really excellent experiences here. We were fortunate our insurance contributed toward both treatments, but once you pay your share, everything is taken care of - we never had any additional costs after that. We still see Dr. Yao even now - at 1yr frequencies for him to make sure everything is still going well. That kind of follow up is appreciated. read more

Dr. William Yao is an amazing orthodontist. My sister and I both got our braces done from him and it was a great experience. We first were referred to Dr. Nettleman, but after his retirement, Dr. Yao took over and we were quite impressed! His care and service is amazing. I've heard many stories of patients leaving orthodontists unsatisfied because they only treated for the amount of time that they estimated and no more than that. Dr. Yao will make sure that your teeth look PERFECT before letting you go. He will go above and beyond and take longer if needed. Of course, a lot of it has to do with your own responsibility, so don't forget to wear your retainers or rubber bands! He gives you them for a reason :) Honestly, he is an amazing orthodontist and his team is very professional and nice. I have gotten numerous compliments on my teeth! I had such a good experience with Dr. Yao. I have now mostly finished my regular care there and I could not be more happy with the results. All of the staff was incredibly kind and enthusiastic about the results they saw in their patients. All of my questions were answered free of judgement and explained thoroughly. I had to have a major jaw surgery through all of this, and Dr. Yao worked seamlessly with my surgeon to make sure everything was ready on time and I had all the care I needed. Charged $521 to get a plan of options that he would suggest (no one else charges these fees). Told to get a set of images taken outside of his facility, another $350 (other places take of this in house). That's just the upfront cost, now to the real problem - he came back to us with 2 different plans. The first plan is to remove 2 of my kids teeth all together. The 2nd plan was to go regular braces route but in the proposal he added on additional $2000+ in fees for some special metal braces. Went and took 2 other opinions and neither suggested to remove 2 teeth - that would mess up my kids face structure all together. Be vary wary of going here, when you check yelp reviews everyone makes it sound great but that is probably for simple cases. This ortho charges too much and comes up with plans that are to make his work easier - not what is best for the child. read more

Everyone's experience is different. Dr. Yao has rave reviews but I can't say I had the same experience. In summary, I felt like my pocketbook was more important than my care. I had issues from the beginning through the end of my treatment that ranged anywhere from a rude nurse to the flimsy materials used on my replacement retainer that tore after 3 months. After paying close to 8K, I expected more. The bad experience got the best of me and I lost my cool when on the phone with the treatment coordinator, Tiffanie. Following that phone call she sent an email (with the documents I requested) and suggested I find another orthodontist. Convenient timing since I was all paid up and my treatment was complete. Pro tip - when your treatment is complete ask them to make two molds of your teeth for your retainer. If you lose your retainer and your teeth shift, you'll be out of luck. They don't keep the original molds. They will take a mold of the current condition of your teeth and try to manually adjust the retainer in attempt to duplicate the original. It won't be exact and your teeth may not stay straight as a result. If you say something, they will blame you for losing your retainer in the first place (this actually happened). read more

I just had a consultation today. As I had brace twice and Invisalign once, I'm very familiar with the orthodontics process and the market. I can tell Dr. Yao is a very good orthodontist. But the price is higher too. Images will cost $500, which is free at other places. Treatment is around $8,000. I'm willing to pay extra for a good orthodontist, but the finance lady is snobbish. Her change of attitude makes me sick. Now I'm not sure if I want to move forward. read more

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Dr. Yao and his team are truly gems. As an adult contemplating orthodontic care, I went into the process feeling like a fish out of water. I instantly felt comfortable in the office, staff were kind, relatable and friendly and I'm so so pleased with my results. After my initial consultation, I was provided various treatment options. Dr. Yao provided feedback on which option he felt would give me the best results/ the results I desired and ultimately we landed on an option that was also the most affordable. I could instantly tell that he was genuine and considerate, and wasn't going to try to "up-sell" me or convince me to push my budget, etc. If you're still reading this and you aren't fully convinced then I don't know what else to tell you because you're truly in the best hands here! read more

LOVE this office, and LOVE Dr. Yao. My boys both go here for orthodontic treatment. One for a simple crossbite, and one for more complex movement of teeth. I appreciate Dr. Yao's approach, as he offers choices of treatment and is flexible with how aggressive you wish to tackle a problem. We always default to his recommendations, and have been extremely happy with the results so far. By the way, my kids like him too. Elizabeth is the rudest person I have ever met. She answers the phone with an attitude, yells and cusses at clients on the phone, and I always hear her scolding the receptionist. She's always barking at her in a belittling way. Of course, however, she never does it in front of the doctor. Some (not all) of the assistants are rude to each other as well. Blaming each other for stuff and all. One of them came up and yelled at the receptionist right in front of me while we were scheduling my son's appointments. There was also a line of people behind me, and everyone heard. That is extremely rude and unprofessional. Two stars because Dr Yao is a good orthodontist. However, he is somehow completely oblivious to how some of his team members behave. read more

I didn't have braces growing up, so I didn't know what to expect when I took my 11 year old to see Dr. Yao for her first consultation. Dr. Yao came highly recommended by my general dentist and I am so glad I went to see him! Right off the bat, I was very impressed with the warm and inviting waiting room with the comfy sofas and coloring books for adults and kids. My daughter started coloring right away which calmed her. I perused their coffee selection and enjoyed a cup while waiting. But we didn't have to wait long, Dr. Yao saw us within 5 mins of checking in. After Dr. Yao examined my daughter, he explained in detail the two treatment options as well as the pros and cons of each. He even had some video clips and pictures to help explain the treatment. As this was my first experience, I had a million questions and he addressed them all! After several days of mulling it over and even more questions for Dr. Yao, we finally decided on the best option for my daughter. We were able to quickly setup her 1st appointment and my daughter is now happily on her way to a beautiful smile. We see Dr. Yao about every 5 weeks now and my daughter truly enjoys going. The staff is professional and friendly, the office is bright and clean... and we LOVE the sense of humor of the place, especially the wi-fi password :). read more

Dr. Yao and staff are the best! If you or your children need braces, I cannot recommend Dr. Yao highly enough. We recently moved from Maryland to California and have four daughters (all of whom need braces!!). Dr. Yao was recommended to us by our new dentist (Dr. Aaron Santos), and we are grateful for the referral! Dr. Yao took the time to meet with our large family and go over everything each daughter will need. He was willing to work with the braces my oldest daughter already has in place from her orthodontist in Maryland, and his staff worked us into the schedule so that the girls could begin treatment sooner rather than later. Dr. Yao himself is warm, friendly, approachable, and patient. My daughters don't mind visiting the orthodontist at all, whereas their previous experiences were less-than-stellar. And in addition, the staff in the office is absolutely lovely. Elizabeth (who helps with billing) is thorough and detailed with the financial explanations, and the front desk always does their best to accommodate our crazy schedules. Dr. Yao's office has early appointments available on Wednesday mornings, which is very helpful when it comes to mitigating school absences. I believe they are also open late at least one evening per week, though because of sports practices we have not made a late appointment. And the office itself is fun, clean, and comfortable -- I appreciate the in-office coffee during the early morning appointments! I am a 28 year old and I didn't want to come in to talk about braces. The whole idea seemed so embarrassing. I had a consultation with Dr.Yao and he told me about invaslign and explained the process. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. I became his patient and everything was super smooth and his staff is always really helpful and just a pleasant to be around. I am happy to be nearing the end of my trays and I finally feel like I can smile like I wanted to. It's something I'm no longer self conscious about and I think it just got me into the habit of better oral hygiene in general. I would highly suggest Dr.Yao to anyone. Also thought I'd add that the trays change each week and they are pretty easy to keep clean. I just went to the bathroom to take them out before meals and some of my friends never even noticed i had them until I said something. read more

I have been an Invisalign patient of Dr. Yao's for the past 18 months. The office staff is very welcoming and knowledgable. Dr. Yao has an in depth knowledge of the movement of teeth and what would be most appropriate for my situation. I had been suffering with TMJ headaches for several years due in part by my misaligned bite. This place is fantastic - and here are three simple reasons why 1. Dr. Yao is a fantastic ortho - he explains everything he does and let's you understand your treatment and the changes he is looking to make, rather than just "performing some magic". He will make sure your teeth are fixed - not just the few things you wanted him to fix, but also everything else you didn't know needs fixing. 2. The staff and orthodontists are very friendly, welcoming, nice.. really just awesome. They all seem to really enjoy their job, they know your name when you walk into the office and remember every story you have told them. 3. They are ALWAYS there for you. I had to fly out of the country and Dr. Yao came in on a Friday (when they are closed) to fix my broken wire before my flight. When my braces finally came off, they made my retainer within a day, and Dr. Yao came back to the office after hours to give it to me before I had to head out of the country again. When I lost my retainer, he made another one and it is currently on the way via air mail to me. (And the little "congrats" celebration once your braces come off is quite nice as well! :)) If you are looking for orthodentics treatment for whatever reason, I can only recommend coming here. read more

When I was a kid, I went to Dr. Nettleman for my orthodontia. Nearly 30 years later, my kids are getting braces, and from the same office that I went to! Today that office is occupied by Dr. William Yao, DDS. Deciding to get braces for the kids was nervewracking. I was worried about the cost that it would be painful for the kids, and that it would last years and years. Fortunately I have a great orthodontist! Dr. Yao has been great so far. My daughter has very crooked teeth, but he created a treatment plan that will give her a perfect smile in just two years. Because she has a small mouth, however, it was necessary to have two of her teeth pulled to make room. My son is younger, so Dr. Yao is using expanders to widen his bite and hopefully no teeth pulling will be required. Dr. Yao's office is great in explaining everything in detail. He focuses on the "WHY" of it all. It doesn't bother him if I have trouble understanding something. His staff takes the time to make sure I am comfortable with the treatment plan. I am very impressed with not only Dr. Yao but his incredible staff. From the moment I walked in a felt welcome and at ease. Although I have been finished with my braces for about ten years, I still have a special retainer with pontics on it that I wear 24/7. When one of the pontics on my retainer broke off I was left with a toothless smile! I was referred to Dr. Yao by my old orthodontist and I am so happy that I called to see them. Dr. Yao has a lovely office with kind staff, all throughout my appointment I felt comfortable and Dr. Yao throughly explained all of my options and even showed my a video about one of them. Their team truly saved the day when they were able to reattach my tooth in office and get me fitted for a new retainer. very arrogant dr .. we were just discussing with staff about the payments and plans before going for treatment for my kid . He jumped in saying we are asking lot of questions etc .. so he just doesn't like it .. we were taken aback .. didn't know how to respond . Then he said he will just do some exams today and call us later for consultation . Fearing that another visit for something that can be done today will delay the treatment we decided lets go ahead with treatment we are fine . after the exam was done he came for another round of chat and sounded very arrogant .. " its my office and that if we are not comfortable we can go somewhere else ".. it seemed to us he doesn't like us .. we quietly came out worrying that we can't go ahead with treatment with this chap and that he is gonna charge us unnecessarily for this visit , suddenly he called us and said he doesn't want to treat and would not charge for anything .. man we were relieved coz what ever it is whoever he is .. all those 5 star rating that brought us to him .. well he is nothing like it .. extremely bad experience read more

Dr Yao has been working on my daughter's (Makena's) teeth over the past 8 months and I really appreciate the level of care, quality of service and friendliness he and his staff provide. His practice is set up with a very open concept with 4 stations in a large room. Parents are welcome to come in, and it's arranged in a comfortable way where I've never felt my daughter was being crowded with people in her space as she's being worked on. I like this setup because I can have a seat near my daughter and Dr Yao always points things out "real time" and does a great job of explaining what he's doing, why and what to expect to both of us. I remember my daughter's first appointment, when Dr Yao was reviewing her exrays, I was impressed with the time he took to really point out and explain a lot of the details, dimensions and ratios relative to different points of her skull, etc. - it was so interesting! Bottom line is that he took the time to explain, and was able to communicate it in a way we could understand. He also came across as being a perfectionist (which I like when it comes to my daughter's teeth) and I still get that sense with every visit. So far our experience has been exceptional! I was recommended to Dr. Yao by my regular dentist who is in the same building. I was looking to see what orthodontic options I had and what the cost might be. Dr. Yao and his team did a thorough review of my teeth, took pictures, etc., and came up with a good game plan. I decided to go with Invisalign over regular braces. The timing and cost were about the same for both but Invisalign was more appealing to me since I could take it in and out. My insurance cover part of the cost and the rest I paid for monthly on my credit card over the entire treatment period. I saw the team every 6 weeks or so and was always treated well. I was in and out very quickly. Everyone was very professional but fun. Dr. Yao was very impressed with how well I did with Invisalign and so was I. Now I just have my night time retainer and will do a check up in a few months. Definitely a great experience and I would recommend Dr. Yao and his team wholeheartedly. read more
