In the visitor's center, there is currently an exhibit on restoring these and other houses in the area, and a nice gift shop. In the houses, one is of Silas Deane's stepfamily next door, and one is a leatherworker, but one that was lived in by the family the longest and most naturally preserved. George Washington slept in one of the houses. There is also history of the guy who originally tried to restore the houses and painted great American history scenes - so not someone who was perfectly accurate in his restoration, but he had the spirit. The history of restoration can be just as interesting and relevant as the original inhabitant history. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and there is a lot to see between 3 houses, so the tour was pretty full. There is a parking lot on site as well as street parking. It's nestled on a regular street among other businesses, but it's a nice gem of the past.

I believe this closes at sunset but I've been out here at sunrise and it's been pretty quiet until 9:30 am or so. There are a few walking trails and the docks/front of the boathouse (the cement areas) do flood during heavy rain. Definitely a Glastonbury community symbol... :) Lots of kids fishing on the dock/by the river. Playground on the premises & then the Glastonbury parks and rec manages the fields behind the clubhouse. I've been here when there was a wedding and it seemed intimate and romantic. I'm a big fan of this spot!

She was very flexible in allowing us access to the hall to get everything set up for the big day. Everyone at our wedding marveled at how beautiful and historic the center was. There was plenty of parking behind the center and its location in Old Wethersfield provided the perfect backdrop. The sound system was excellent and allow us to plug right in and play music. Aquila's gives a 30-minute grace period, which helped since the area gets very dark at night and the roads are narrow. I knew ahead of time there would be a lobster food truck and a live salsa band. When you arrive, you check in with the hostess, though there's no clear hostess stand since she's stationed at the end of the bar. The inside was crowded with no available seats, but we weren't there for the band anyway. Our igloo had a heater, but two would've been ideal. They recommend bringing a blanket, which I forgot, but it wasn't too cold--around the high 40s. We tried the "Sweet Wine Flight," which included Sparkling Rosé, Moscato, and white and red wine slushies. The white wine slushy was my favorite. It started raining while we were there, and everyone with fire pits cleared out, so I was extra glad we chose an igloo. They offered a cheese box, but it looked too small, so we stuck to drinks. Our server was polite and brought everything out quickly. Reservations give you two hours, and we had a great time. I like the variety of reservation options they offer. For suggestions: it would be nice to have a real charcuterie board instead of tiny cheese and veggie boxes. The indoor space could also be larger, especially for people coming for the live band, and there are no seats around the bar. Overall, though, it's a cozy spot, and I enjoyed the experience.
