October 2014 - Top collapsing - Manufacturer sent independent inspector who agreed that although the bed did not have a Manufacturing fault, it had a Design fault - supporting struts went from top to bottom instead of left to right, were too far apart to support properly, and the top 'former' across the struts was too thin. Asked Jones & Tomlin (Worthing Bedding Centre) Manager for £100 so that we could rectify the problem ourselves, using 12mm plywood as a former - he refused, stating that the report 'isn't in your favour'. Contacted the Director, attaching photos showing a 25mm sag (no weight on it - sagged to 40mm with the weight of a person), who offered £25, then £52.32 (cost of the plywood), then, after telling him that we visited the Citizen's Advice Bureau (Consumer Complaints) and were going down the route of the Small Claims Court, he offered the £100 that we asked for in the first place! Removing the fabric cover revealed that the gap between supports was 360mm wide by 825mm long and that the former (cover) was 1mm card, like the back of a sketch pad, stapled on!! Staples were already tearing through the card. Emailed Jones & Tomlin and Highgate Beds to ask if they will continue to sell / manufacture a product with an obvious, known design fault - read receipts received, but no other response! Please note what we now consider should be a warning to all potential customers of Jones & Tomlin (Worthing Bedding Centre) in an email from their own Manager 'Highgate beds manufacture their beds using the same method as all the other manufacturers we deal with' which, coupled with their appalling customer service, should encourage everyone to shop elsewhere!
