Nice store. Quite large, friendly helpful staff. Some very cheap, reasonably priced household items. I don't know what I would do without Wilkos! read more

East Midlands Designer Outlet

The East Midlands Designer Outlet formerly known as McArthur Glen is located next to M1 junction…read more28, near to Sutton-in-Ashfield. It's a reasonably-sized shopping centre, which is partly under cover and geared towards stores which offer predominantly discounted goods (though the shops are somewhat more upmarket than Poundstretcher et al). There is plenty of car parking, but public transport options are slightly limited due to the out-of-town location. Facilities are very good and the overall impression is of a well-run centre that is not overwhelming in terms of size. There is a varied mix of stores, with a bias towards clothes and gift shops. Overall, an excellent place to head for if shopping for a birthday or Christmas, though perhaps not quite large enough for a full-on Saturday shopping session!

You name it. The staff are very friendly and pleasant, always on hand to help. I myself am saving up for Xmas (coming to quick) and they have some great ideas for presents too. My advice, save up a bit, put some money aside and go and treat yourself from time to time. At 'House of Fraser' their is something there for everyone!

With electronics, housewares, perfumes, cosmetics, clothing and shoes, you can do it all here, as long as you don't mind the slightly premium price. My favourite thing about this Debenham's is the Benefit makeup counter. Being a California girl, I prefer Benefit to other cosmetics, and this Benefit counter was just as good. The manager of the Notts Benefit was a really sweet yet efficient pretty lady in her early 20s. I had a budget (boo), but was pretty specific about what I was lookign for -- yet vague enough to need to test nearly every product. You know, a typical idiotic consumer. With tons of efficiency, friendliness and patience, she took me through the range of products I was looking for, offered suggestions but didn't oversell, and left me ultimately with two modest purchases I didn't regret. This Debenham's is quite large, and has a great selection of women's clothing, particularly well stocked on swimsuits and summer clothing in spring (hurrah for ice cream lolly bikinis in style of Katy Perry!). It has a cafe/restaurant on the top floor with decent coffees and cappucinos for the weary credit-card wielder.

It is located right in the centre of Nottingham on the Market Square opposite the fountain. I personally believe the shop could do with a major re-vamp as it has started to look very tired in recent years. I do not agree with other reviewers comments that it's like a little Harrods, it's no where near as good. They do offer a wide range of products and very often have attractive sales on that can save you quite a bit of cash. I recommend the homeware department and have picked up a fair few bargains in there over the years.
Hoopers

The layout of the store did seem a little strange, which could be down to the building its-self, you have to pass through the Cafe, and then a set of doors after going out of the lift on the Basement, to get into the Menswear section, despite having five floors, each individual floor was not overly large, with the top floor being just "customer services", but the store was a reasonable size overall. I did notice some of the clothing sections to be a little laid out like a jumble sale, they did have some good items at reasonable prices though, so not a wasted trip by any means. The Ground Floor was nicely laid out, and perhaps the most welcoming and premium area of the store, showcasing a range of fragrances and beauty products. The opening hours are pretty draconian, so plan ahead, they are open between 10 am and 5 pm Monday to Saturday and do not open on Sundays. I probably wouldn't return, but a nice addition to the shopping scene in Harrogate's town centre. 3*

Nowadays I'm not so much for the toys, more for the kitchen bit downstairs, which is excellent, and the perfume department. I went in a couple of weeks ago and had a look at some fancy shoes but the two women at the till there looked at me as though I was a bag lady and needed ejecting. I felt very, very uncomfortable. I think it was because I was wearing linen trousers and flip flops and my hair was a bit messy, but whatever it was, it was like that bit in Pretty Woman where the shoplady is mean to the prozzie. Anyway, Oldrids is a well stocked, well laid out department store, which on the whole is deserving of a visit if you're on a shopping trip and need some knickers or tights or makeup or perfume or a griddlepan, and don't mind paying a bit more for it, or if you just want a cup of coffee in a place where you can peek out over the main pedestrian bit and laugh at the chavs, but beware the grumpy staff is all I'll say.
