Changing from a 5 star to a 1 star! I originally wrote a very positive review about Mike Stevens…read moreand Capital Wealth Advisors when we first met and signed up with them. Close to the end of year one my husband and I transferred some money from an IRA to a new Roth IRA. The amounts transferred were the same for both me and my husbands so it was easy to keep track of In December we found that for my new Roth IRA account the initial amount had not been invested. My husbands new Roth IRA was growing and my new Roth IRA seemed to be dormant. We brought this to Mike's team at Capital Wealth Advisors they said it hadn't been invested and would let Mike know. In February of the next year it was still dormant and not invested. Talked with the new president that Mike had put in place and was told they would fix the issue as it was their fault. In talking with Mike a few weeks later he told us that he had a conversation with his team and that they could NOT do anything about it. In April it still had not be allocated/invested. On August 1st on a zoom call Mike apologized to us, as he was confused as to what had happened and stated that it indeed was their fault and they "would make it right" as of that moment. He said my Roth IRA would then match my husbands Roth IRA. On August 13th my husband wrote Mike an email asking why it had still not been taking care of as promised. Mike wrote back saying that he had been out of town and was still "working" on it and that aslo maybe we should part ways and he would then turn our account into a "retail trade account". They finally could only mail me a check for the amount I would have gained on the account had they invested it. Problem with that is, I am not really made whole as promised because I am going to have to pay taxes again on that money and could not simply reinvest it because I am retired. We stated that to Mike and all he could say is "check with your tax advisor". So it was not made right nor whole.

Mike is total jerk to deal with. He will be super nice to get your business then flip a switch…read more My advice is to go somewhere else. Never saw anything in 5 years with my investment.

Switchpoint Financial Planning - James Sweeney CFA CFP MBA

    Switchpoint Financial Planning

We've just started working with James and team at Switchpoint financial. I've been impressed with…read morethe thoughtfulness of their approach as well as the business model. Switchpoint uses a flat fee approach which pays for financial advice and investment management on a flat fee which factors complexity and whether it is single or a couple. It is higher value and lower cost than paying typical fees for AUM (assets under management). The flat fee also allows James and team to be objective in how our assets will reside. For example we have some 401K that are best left in pace right now as rolling money over early would prevent us from doing back door ROTHS and some other state tax advantages nearer term. An advisor who is paid strictly on AUM has an incentive to push for all assets to be managed by them. James and team can objectively decide what is best and provide guidance on how to invest any accounts we keep for now with an employer plan. Their investing approach aligns with my own which is more index based lower cost investments, not actively trying to time sectors or the market. Hands on planning and picking an investment strategy, but more hands off in terms of not trying to constantly touch the investments month after month guessing what will happen in the market. A philosophy of building a solid plan and letting the market do its thing long term. That said James is thoughtful and when there are obvious macro trends such as rising interest rates we are leveraging shorter term fixed income to avoid what appears to be obvious risk in the bond sector. A good balance of looking at market situations in terms of expected returns for an asset and tuning the investment approach which is different than pure market timing. In terms of onboarding there are a couple of well known brokerages (Eg. Schwab) that you can utilize to hold investments that James will manage. Although it means moving from a custodian I've been with for a while, we're very comfortable with their custodian options. James likes to use Dimensional Fund Advisor funds for some investments. After some research on these, they're very well regarded with Morningstar analysts and we're comfortable with how he's deciding on individual funds or ETF. A few other reasons we selected Switchpoint is that James is building a small organization to grow the business thoughtfully. We'd looked at some individual financial planners that didn't have a backup plan if something happened to the sole proprietor. Some of those planners also seemed a bit maxed out in being able to handle a new client well. Kyle has brought on an associate advisor Kevin who is learning the business and adding capacity to the org. James also has a Client Service coordinator Jessica who has been great and all our paperwork has been accurate, pre-filled out and making things very easy as well as an operations manager. I take the time to write a detailed review as we did a lot of research trying to find the right planner. We are in our 50's and wanted a planner who is experienced enough but also young enough they'd not retire before us :-) I hope this helps others who are looking for an advisor.

Market Trend Signal Website and Course Review: There are…read morepros and cons to the course and service. I'll summarize at the end, but first some impressions, issues, and surprises the new candidate will face... * Once you've signaled your interest in the trending / charting service you'll be contacted by one of their client representatives. They'll explain the service and ascertain whether you're a good candidate to attend their 8 week course to utilize their service, and profit from trading options. * If you're deemed "a suitable candidate", they will follow-on with an interview to make sure you are truly capable, interested, and probably have the means to work their system * Once you pay the fee for the first course ($6000 ) you're given many options to enhance your learning experience for nominal fees, and offered an opportunity to attend the 2nd course for another reduced fee. If you have never taken a course in market trending or market dynamics, there is a huge amount of information you can glean from the materials, however you could achieve this knowledge from the thousands of books available for less money, but it takes effort. The expense is in the instructor's experience and how he can relate lessons learned to the market at hand. Additional items will be offered as a matter of course with this service.... * You will be contacted by a firm who specializes in creating business entities to help reduce your potential tax burdens. This setup will cost you about $3000. There appears to be possibilities within this structure if you have a "full time" trading business. * Another sales person will offer help with tax preparation that needs to be followed on a monthly basis (to take advantage of your newly formed entity). This will cost another $3000. There could be many benefits to the entire package, if you are duly informed up front. You can make decisions on your needs, your situation, and ask more appropriate questions during the conferences. Back to the 8 week course...the instructor is knowledgeable and has been working the system for about 15 years. The course materials are pretty good and they come in printed and electronic form (depending on the material). Not all are printable and might disappear after the 8 weeks is concluded. Each weekly session is live with the instructor, s viewed via telecast, but you're blocked from any audio input. Questions / comments must be typed. This was the most frustrating and significant drawback to the whole course to me. It severely hampers your participation and interaction with the instructor. BTW....you can only communicate with the instructor via email at any time. After the sessions are concluded, you can review the recorded video session later. Each week's session is posted on the website. This is very helpful and a key to your possible success. The website has many good features, although it has a quirky interface. The site is run by people you can directly affect to make changes, a must for a site like this. One of the features that needs improvement (and it is critical) is the "Ask a Coach" area. You submit a question, and unfortunately the answer is normally late. Not effective as it could be for a student in the market where his money is one the line...this is a fail. In this age of Tweet, FaceBook, and texting, there has to be a better support system, if nothing more than a "limited" access during the course time frame. Below is a list of the Pro's and Con's in my opinion and a grade for each: Summary: Pros: (Grade = B- ) * Good website for tracking and monitoring market trends * Analysis Tools are very useful * Cost of the website access is reasonable * Instructor is knowledgeable and has many experiences to share in the course * Most presentation materials are easy to use, and most can be printed, or saved for later use * The "extra" services can be beneficial if you're starting a full-time options trading business * The instructor has a weekly blog giving market reviews and tips on how to trade Cons: (Grade = C-) * The overall program cost and the "extra" services is a surprise (over $12,000) * The customer service is not adequate once you're in the course * The website is quirky navigating through the pages * The instructor is not immediately available, although in the weekly sessions he recommends students use the "Ask a Coach" feature * Weekly sessions are broadcast in an unsupportive manner restricting interaction and makes the course presentation very "one-way" * No phone contact with the instructors - Once you've completed the course, the instructor is available only by email. Responses are patchy and often late * Most important; Does the system work? Personal experience is "no", but others may have a better experience (this obviously weighs very heavy in any scholastic environment) Overall grade: C
