Dorothy perkins is a fab place to buy clothes of all ranges and sizes. YOU will find a range of…read moreclothes from fashionable to simple clothing....... The stores usually have basic changing rooms and the sizes can be a little bigger than usual but it's wearable. Burtons is the men version of dorothy perkins, so guys don't feel left out.

Situated in the middle of Portland Walk below Topshop and next to Debenhams, so easy to pop in if you're in town anyway. It has some nice items, and the staff are very friendly and helpful, they always have a good chat with you - but on the whole the clothes are the same as you can get in New Look or Primark, nothing very exciting or 'special'. The coats and knitwear are nice though, and it's a great place to stock up on cheap shirts for work (they're currently doing a 2 for £20 offer). They do good discounts too - teachers and NHS employees get 10 or 15% (depending on what promotion they're doing at the time) and of course students get their student discount too - so it's a cheap place to shop if you fall into one of those categories! They also do a store-card which gives you 10% off when you open one - worthwhile if you're buying a lot. This Portland Walk store is apparently shutting down in a couple of months anyway, so there will no longer be a Dorothy Perkins in Barrow - which is a shame as it always seems to be quite busy and has some good bargains.

This is a favourite sale shop of theirs when it comes to ales time as their sale prices are fantastic. they have picked up clothes for cheaper than a charity shop and all good trendy brand new stuff. When they have purchased wrong sizes and tried to take them back some times the staff have struggled to do it right and things have got a bit confusing and messy but overall this is a good store and one that we will no doubt be in a lot. The price of normal stuff is also very reasonable and some say good quality and trendy!

New Look is one of Barrow's largest fashion shops, spread over two floors right in the middle of…read morePortland Walk (the main shopping street). It caters for menswear and childrenswear as well as womenswear. There is a very wide selection of items - all the usual clothes, but also lingerie, sleepwear, gifts and a whole floor upstairs devoted to shoes! As with most New Looks, it's cheap and cheerful - expect to pay £20 or so for shoes, and £15 for a top. They have regular sales where everything is put out on racks and it looks like a jumble sale, but if you're prepared to have a good rummage then you can easily find some bargains! They do 10% student discount, and also have a storecard with the occasional cardholders event throughout the year offering free goodie bags or another 10/20% off. There are usually plenty of tills open, and lots of staff around to help. Ideal if you're looking for a quick disposable-fashion outfit, and the shoes put some of the more expensive shoe retailers to shame!

Topshop is one of the most popular shops in Barrow, especially amongst teens and 20-somethings…read more Situated above Dorothy Perkins in Portland Walk, it's very central so you can't miss it if you're on a shopping trip. It sells womens clothes, accessories and shoes - nothing else, but what it does do, it does well. Very fashionable and trendy; you're sure to find something you love here for a night out. Disadvantages include the fact that it's one of the more expensive high-street shops (but then again you get what you pay for, and the quality and style of their stuff is great). It is also on the first floor, and access is only via an escalator (up) and stairs (down) - so no good for anyone in a wheelchair or even people with babies in pushchairs. I've never seen a lift, in fact I'm 99% sure there isn't one, rendering the whole of Topshop inacessible to disabled people - which they shouldn't really be allowed to get away with in 2008. They also don't carry many of the Toppshop concessions or 'special' ranges, if anyfor example they only got the first Kate Moss collection and have never had any of the subsequent collections. It is only a very small branch so they do seem quite restricted in the stock they can carry. However, change is in storeDorothy Perkins downstairs is soon to close, with Topshop moving downstairs, and the upstairs is being replaced by a new Topman store - which should offer a bit more choice to the men of the town! It will be interesting to see how it turns out, whether they get any new lines in etc.
