However, go into the dorms that don't cost double the housing cost, you will feel like you got transported to a run down camp with a room that is the size of two closets. The reason that I find it an issue because it seems that the school does not know how to use their money correctly. Instead of focusing on buildings that are molding and old, they build new ones that increase the price. As for academics, it depends on your major. The university focuses a lot on the nursing program and the religion majors. But if you are a biology major, say good bye to any funding or such. The professors in that department are over worked because of staffing and their true skills are not given enough room to shine. If they were given, the school could produce ground breaking research and brilliant doctors. Overall, do not fall for the tour. Ask to see everything.

I went to Panola College for 2 of the best years of my life…read more It's a small town in the middle of no where if you are from the city like myself. There's not a lot to do and it's not a big campus. The buildings are a little run down as well. So why the glowing review?? The people. Carthage, TX and more so Panola College is home to some of the most amazing folks you will ever meet. I left the busyness of Houston to move to East Texas because Panola offered me a scholarship and hope for an education when others didn't. It's here under the tutelage of folks like Larry Brumley that I truly blossomed as a person and student. I went from A's and B's to a 4.0 and was in leadership in every organization from Choir to College Republicans to the Baptist Student Union. The folks at Panola truly care and realize their students aren't merely a number or a way for more government funding, but are our future. They made the investment in me and prepared me not just for the transfer to a 4 year university, but also for life as a man, husband, employer and friend. Some 15 years later, many of my dearest and closest friends originate from my experience at Panola. Yes, I went to a nationally ranked 5A High school before and a strong University after, but it was those years at Panola and friendships formed there that have made the biggest impact. To put it best, I must quote my beloved professor Mr. Larry Brumley who once told me, "My job is not merely to teach you music, but to teach you to be a man." Thank you Panola College.
