Hospitality lacking. Scheduled the cabin from 28 December to 04 January, and paid in advance. When checking in they only had us scheduled until 02 January even though we had paid until 04 January.
We are in from Hawaii to look for property to purchase. This is a great location if you are snowmobiling as it's right off the trail. But be aware of the club crawlers who will be out until the wee hours with their loud sleds...such as the neighboring cabin....not much for being able to sleep.
And the gas fireplace in our cabin didn't work. My wife was getting chilly in the cabin and we had no way to warm it up because the thermostat is in the office. So she called to ask them to bump up the in floor radiant heat...the owner complained vociferously..."I've never had anyone complain that it's cold in the cabin!" First off, be a host - you are in the hospitality business...think this to yourself if you want, but if you want repeat business don't needle your customers. My wife coming off a cold and having just spent 18-months in the tropics was cold at your setting. And since we were the first people who had a gas fireplace (Out of your mouth) I believe we were the first one's who couldn't warm up our cabin on our own, therefore the first request you got to increase the temperature. Also, since you knew the fireplace was broken you maybe should have told us as we were checking in...
Then on 30 December found out my Aunt was hospitalized and we wanted to depart on 02 January...which was the date you incorrectly scheduled us through. Owner was very adamant that "Well it's our policy to not refund any money" despite you having double booked the cabin and having tenants inbound after us that wanted the cabin as of the 2nd... Never refunded the money, and charged us through the 4th even though we only stayed until the 2nd...and had tenants come in right behind us. Owner kept saying "Well it's our policy" when I asked for it to be waived. Pretty sure they have no concept of the definition of the word "waive" and you the owner can 'waive' you own policy, especially when your customer is complying with your error.
Note that the sauna opens into a public hallway with the glass door right in front of it, so not much privacy. Changing rooms are around the corner. Not much privacy to walk in front of a glass door wrapped in a towel. And we had scheduled the sauna, heated it up, then while my wife and daughter were inside another tenant came up and kept pounding on the door. When my wife didn't open it, but explained that it was in use, the women used her foot against the wall and pulled the door open breaking the lock. She was adamant that it's a public sauna and shouldn't be locked and her party of eight were going to use it right then. Not the owners fault, but certainly not a pleasant experience.
Lori Sieeman is the owner we dealt with. And both when I booked the cabin and when checking in I described how we wanted to return for 2-weeks in June and again in October. So she just lost out on up to a month of booking for NOT waiving her policy for 2-nights, despite it being her error in scheduling being why we left early. Also, my wife had her eye on several items (about $300 worth) in their gift shop that when we checked in told Lori we'd be buying upon check-out....seems she lost sight of actual profit with her bureaucratic ways. Then she had the gumption to suggest I hire her husband to build our house while I was on the way out the door after unsuccessfully asking for a refund for the two nights they charged us for but couldn't stay.... read more
