Olio And Farino - Italian Panini with side salad.

Olio and Farino is a cute Italian cafe/bakery, located in Limerick's city center…read more My husband, sister and I split an appetizer platter with Italian meats and cheeses, olives, pesto, balsamic vinegar and ciabatta bread. Everything was very good! (Obviously not as good as the charcuterie in Italy, but really good!) The menu states that the appetizer we ordered serves two people, but this platter is huge and easily fed three of us. I wasn't very hungry for my panini by the time we finished the appetizer. The Italian panini I ordered wasn't as exciting as I had hoped and I wish I had ordered a salad instead. My husband and sister ordered the salads and theirs looked amazing. Avoid ordering the soda and stick with wine or water. My Coke was served in a wine glass with no ice and there were no refills. This cozy cafe was the perfect spot for a relaxing lunch!

This is one of those times that I REALLY wish there were half stars on Yelp…read more I'm really hovering between three and four stars but in the interest of fairness I'm going to round down for a few reasons. This is a really nice cafe, lovely relaxing decor but plenty of more hearty dinner options if you're feeling up to it. The lunch menu isn't massive but covers all angles, and is not too expensive. I went for the garlic chicken, pepper and mozzarella panini (don't remember the exact name) but it was perfectly crispy and delicious, not overly filled with ingredients but a good chunk of everything in every bite. The salad that came with it was fresh and I actually ate it all, which I usually don't. An interesting mix of fruity and vinegary dressing. My only complaint is the sandwich wasn't big enough, I could easily have eaten two more halves. My lunchmates got pastas, the pesto and the carbonara. While the initial reports were positive as they ate they both said their choice was a bit bland, though miss carbonara commented that there's only one carbonara she really likes, so maybe that's not a full reflection of the dish. The portion sizes were great for lunch. We were going to get dessert but we sent one of our troops over to look and she wasn't too impressed with the selection - the apple tart *looked* a little dry. We're on a January health kick, so we weren't too pushed anyway. Overall, I was happy with the meal. The service was friendly, the place is relaxing and the food came out in plenty of time for our work lunch. But I have to take into account both my friends said they wouldn't return. I disagree, and would definitely come back for that sandwich. Perhaps another time I will!
