Little Cafe On Churchill - Menu

What a very pleasant surprise LCOC was!! It's small and narrow from Churchill Road and somewhat…read moreuninspiring with lots of black and some gold - that combination has never done it for me. You can easily drive by looking for something bigger, better, more open but you would be missing out. There's a cafe a little up the road that's also great but targets a different type of customer - I believe these two can co-exist happily. I was in a rush so I bolted in, was welcomed by a friendly bearded young bloke at the counter (with a lady in the kitchen), asked for my standard medium FW and because I didn't want to fumble with the menu, asked what I could snack on other than what was in the display cabinet (which looked fresh and inviting). He offered a toasted egg and bacon sandwich with house relish (oh yes please) and one or two other things but I was already sold (rushing remember). I took a couple of photos & took in the surroundings before my coffee was brought to me. Well crafted, creamy, strong enough, perfect temp with some nutty after tones. It took less than 5 minutes and my sandwich was brought out to me and I left feeling happy. Another five minutes later after I had demolished the sandwich I was even happier. It was delicious with just the right amount of filling and the relish a great flavor They have coffee cards where every 6th is free and my spend was just under $10, also a fair price. Look, I'll be going back and unless I'm mistaken I won't be changing my review. They do have some competition from further up Churchill Rd, from Prospect Rd, and from Jeffcott St, but this is a little gold star cafe in suburbia that aims to please and produces what it produces well enough to please its customers.

Of course I had to give it a try! I chose to celebrate my birthday here with a couple of close friends. It is very 2013 local business - no website (only a Facebook page), no phone number, no bookings and no credit cards. I inquired via Facebook about bookings and they got back to me quickly with a friendly note saying they don't take bookings but there shouldn't be any problem with the time proposed and number of people. We got there a bit early just in case and the rush hit shortly after that. Nevertheless, there was no problem with the table, not even when friends arrived bearing large gifts. The place provides a light and open and friendly setting. Coffees were very good. The guys who ran it made a great effort with service and were very generous when one breakfast came a bit later than the others by bring us one of their homemade delicious doughnuts on the house. The breakfasts were also very good. The friend who always orders French toast tried, you guessed it, the french toast. This variety was served with poached pears and persimmons and generously covered with home made lemon curd. The lemon curd was excellent! I had the poached egg in tomato on toast with minestra (this version being a mix of sauteed greens with cannellini beans. Very yummy and generous sized serve. The other two guests both had the poached eggs on toast with peperonata and pancetta. The peperonata was extremely tasty. And I couldn't go past the salted caramel brownie to take home for later. This is a business that is new and local. It has a bit of growing to do, but a lot of potential. The front of house guy is great but seems a bit stressed. The food is great. They aim to be environmentally friendly with the locally grown produce and cloth hand towels in the loos (I nice touch). See the Facebook page for photos of the daily breakfast and lunch menus.
